Many viewers were likewise taken with Brown's turn as the enigmatic Eleven in the surprise hit Netflix original series Stranger Things, and many more have noted more than a few striking similarities between Eleven and the version of Laura/X-23 featured in Logan. X-23 and Eleven are both young girls forced to come to terms with powers that make them living weapons in the eyes of nefarious organizations - and as such, it should perhaps come as no small surprise that Brown also auditioned for the role that would eventually go to Keen.
In the above clip from the Actors on Actors series produced by Variety, Brown talks to Evan Rachel Wood (currently known best for playing Dolores on Westworld) about her best audition moment - namely, when she tried out for the role of X-23 in Logan. Per Brown's personal recollection, the experience was a positive one for the up-and-coming performer, even though the X-23 role went to another actor at the end of the day.
For those who are big fans of Logan - its original theatrical iteration and the black and white version known as Logan Noir alike - the idea of X-23 being portrayed by anyone other than Keen might seem unthinkable. Nevertheless, it's an intriguing bit of business to imagine how the character would have differed, had she been portrayed by Brown instead.
Both Brown and Keen have left an indelible mark on the psyche of movie and TV viewers around the world by now, and their respective roles in Stranger Things and Logan were key to their breakout successes. With any luck, both performers will land even bigger lead roles in the future - possibly an inevitability, in light of the recent talk of an X-23 spinoff film propagated by Hugh Jackman - as the two actors continue to mature and develop their independent abilities in front of the camera.
As for the character of Eleven herself, Brown will be reprising that role this fall, when Stranger Things season 2 premieres on Netflix.
