Stephen Moyer Wanted as Dr. Doom in Next ‘Fantastic Four’

Twentieth Century Fox is hard at work laying the foundation and searching for the right pieces to put together the next installment of the Fantastic Four franchise. With X-Men: First Class entering production next week, the next Marvel superhero project for Fox will involve fast-tracking the quasi-reboot of one of Marvel’s most classic Silver Age comic series.

Last week I was informed that Fox was interested in Adrien Brody and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers for the role of Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic to help lead the project and team of superheroes and now comes word that Fantastic Four’s rival and main villain Dr. Doom could be played by True Blood star Stephen Moyer.

Comic Book Movie confirms the talk I heard earlier in the week that Brody is still the top contender to play Richards and that there’s a strong interest in bringing in Moyer to play Victor von Doom, the villainous arch-rival previously played by Julian McMahon in the last two Fantastic Four movies.

With Doom playing a significant role in the first two installments of the series, we don’t know to what extent the character will be used. From what I’m told, Doom is definitely a part of the movie as well as another familiar face from Rise of the Silver Surfer.

I would rather they move away from Doom with the next Fantastic Four but if they are to include him, Moyer can certainly pull it off in my mind. I’m an avid True Blood watcher and he’s the standout character of the series for me. It would be refreshing to see him play a true villain instead of the brooding hero.

While we likely won’t see confirmations of the principal cast until a director signs on, don’t be surprised to see the ball start rolling once X-Men: First Class is in production. Fox is looking at several directors to helm the project and they have an idea of who they want for each of the four main characters. Stay tuned for more soon!

Fantastic Four will shoot next year for a summer 2012 release.

  1. just make whole cast of true blood the ff. Just hire so big guy to be doom.

  2. Pretty good choice. Never woulda thought of Moyer. Definitely has a strong character presence and really looks like a villain. I really thought his Trueblood character would kill Sookie in a New York minute lol.

As for the Thing: Bring in Bruce Willis!

    • Bruce Willis and Kiefer Sutherland are the current candidates ;)

  3. I personally feel that Doctor Doom was “UNDER USED” in the 2 original movies. In the first one he didn’t become physically Dr. Doom until the very end, and in the second movie he only was on screen in true Doom form for a few moments with his awesome new armor.

As far as a RE-BOOT is concerned, I LOVED the cast they already have. This is only happening because The Human Torch is now Captain America.

    • No,this is happening because Fox wants to hold on to the rights of the Fantastic Four so that they don’t go back to Marvel.

  4. For this new movie, it’d be better to just start the movie with both fantastic 4 and doctor doom firmly established, each acknowledging each other forces. That way, we can get other story plots out without them getting hindered with character plot development like in the previous 2 movies. It’s time we see true bad-assery from dr doom and more heroic stunts from the good guys.

That’s a good possibility b/c it’s gonna show the origins over the opening credits (ala The Incredible Hulk). IMO, that’s how most origins should be shown.

  5. Dr Doom is really the Darth Vader of the MARVEL universe.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if George Lucas was influenced to some degree by Dr Doom’s character for Darth Vader’s incarnation.

As far as this reboot is concerned, seeing this is one of MARVEL’S major titles, I’m expecting a major EPIC treatment, i.e. a well known experienced director, appropriate actors that look the part, an action packed character driven script and the latest mind blowing sci-fi FX.

Being that this is a Fox production and given their past track record with MARVEL characters, I can in reality expect another frustrating sub par movie.

I’m not wanting to be negative or sarcastic but I can’t help it given Fox’s past stuff ups.

    • At least it can’t be any worse than the second film.

    • @Magnetic My dear Sir, as a matter of fact George Lucas himself did INDEED say that DOOM WAS his inspiration for Darth Vader. I read that a few years ago,he said it himself.Sorry I don’t have the source to show you but I’m sure you could look it up.

      • @ ulik

Well, there you go. That’s interesting. I might have a look around to see if I can find a source. Thanks!

  6. True :-) Let’s hope not.

  7. This guy Moyer is being cast wrong, HE SHOULD’VE BEEN WOLVERINE. I just saw him in a photo with Anna Paquin and in the photo HE HAS THE EXACT SAME MUTTON CHOPS AS WOLVRINE AND LOOKS LIKE A SPITTING IMAGE OF HIM I KID YOU NOT! He doesn’t look like Hugh Jackman,he HAS AN “UNCANNY” RESEMBLANCE TO WOLVERINE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. This has officially been dismissed.

    • Yeah I saw that too,phew***

  9. Big “No thanks” on Rhys-Meyers he already thinks he’s Fantastic.

Brody is a fine actor, just not right for this part.

    • @Bob Thank you, your insight vision is quite perfect.
