A lot of things happen in the world that are unexplainable. Some people point to the supernatural when they can’t explain something. Whether or not you believe in the paranormal, there are plenty of celebrities who are convinced that some of these unexplainable phenomenon are examples of ghosts at work in the world. They even have paranormal experiences to support their cases!
Some celebrities have romantic experiences with ghosts. Or there are people contacted by the very person they are playing in a movie. Several of these actors have very pleasant experiences with these supposed ghosts, whether the specter that’s paying them a visit is a relative a gentlemanly stranger who pals around.
All these actors insist they believe in the paranormal and that these experiences are 100% authentic. Is it really just a cry for attention? A publicity stunt? Or are these genuine encounters with the other side? You decide in our list of 16 Stars Who’ve Had Crazy Paranormal Experiences (with a couple extra stars thrown in as well).
16. Megan Fox’s Ghastly Room Service
Megan Fox believes in quite a variety of supernatural phenomenon, including UFOs, bigfoot, and leprechauns. “I believe in everything,” Megan Fox said in her interview with MTV.
But the Transformers actress has had a ghostly encounter herself while staying at a hotel in Mexico. In the same MTV interview, Fox talked about her experience. She had ordered room service and she heard the cart coming in and the coffee being poured 30 minutes early. But when she got up, there was nothing there. Then, the doorbell rang and when she answered it, her actual room service had arrived.
She originally chocked it up to her being “delirious,” but then “Brandy the nanny comes in later and she’s like, ‘Why did room service come in at 7 when we told them to come in at 7:30?’ So you can’t tell me I’m crazy because two people heard it.” Draw your own conclusions!
15. Keanu Reeves’ Haunted Jacket Story
Reeves claims his nanny, Renata, was in the bedroom and he was just “hanging out” while his sister slept. “There was a doorway and all of a sudden this jacket comes waving through the doorway, this empty jacket — there’s no body, there’s no legs, it’s just there. And then it disappears,” Reeves says seriously.
His reaction at the time, though? “I was a little kid and I thought, ‘Okay, that’s interesting,’ and I looked over at the nanny, who had a terrified face on, and he said, “And I’m like ‘Oh wow, so that was real.’”
14. Kesha Had Sex With A Ghost?
The popular singer is a big believer in ghosts. She told Celebuzz, “I’m very open to that whole side of the universe. I’m very much into it. I believe in it. I believe in anything supernatural, I’m open to believing in.” Kesha talked about the meaning of her song “Supernatural”, which she said was about sex with a ghost.
Kesha connected this with a real life experience she had while living in a flop house at Rural Canyon, claiming there was “this weird energy that lived there, and it used to keep me at night and wake me up. And it progressed into this dark, sexual spirit.” She followed these comments up by saying: “It did scare me but that’s part of the fun of it.”
Surprisingly, Ke$ha is not the only celebrity who has claimed to be having some sexy time with ghosts. Celebrities like Lucy Liu (Elementary), Anna Nicole Smith, and Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters) also claimed to have been involved in sexual encounters with ghosts.
13. Johnny Depp Haunted By John Dillinger And Mackay Mansion
As reported by Travel Channel, Johnny Depp had a supernatural experience of his own when he was at the Mackay Mansion. The Virginia City mansion has been around since 1860 and was the set of Depp’s film Dead Man. During filming, he saw a little girl dressed in all-white who wasn’t… all there.
Sherri Granato, the author of Haunted America & Other Paranormal Travels, has also mentioned Johnny Depp’s encounter with the ghost of bank robber John Dillinger. Depp played Dillinger in his film Public Enemies, and the man supposedly saw it fit to contact Depp during the filming of the movie. Depp said he felt the ghost’s presence and that he was watching over him and approving.
12. Sandra Bullock And George Clooney’s Supernatural Experience
Once again, Sherri Granato, the author of Haunted America & Other Paranormal Travels, spoke about another celebrity duo’s supernatural experience. While filming Gravity, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney have been experiencing the seemingly unexplainable.
Off-set, Bullock has reportedly been having sleepless nights because of ghostly presences inside the north London church. The Sun even looked into the history of haunting at her residence and found it was filled with supernatural energy. A lot of people were sending her suggestions on what to do when ghost hunting in the UK, and even recommended she leave.
Clooney spoke about his supernatural experience on TV talk shows. He explained that the film set felt so real, and he said he “felt something was really out there.” He went on to say there “seems to be another realm of existence” on Earth and in outer space.
11. Alyson Hannigan’s Gentleman Ghost
In a 2003 interview with San Francisco Gate, Alyson Hannigan talked about her haunted California home. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer and How I Met Your Mother alum mentioned he was “very friendly.” She also said she was not the only person to see him.
“My friend saw him first one night,” Hannigan explained, “She said, ‘I don’t mean to alarm you but I just saw a man follow us out of the house.’ And I said, ‘Well, at least he’s gentlemanly, he let us go first.’” At one point, she saw someone standing in her bathroom doorway while she was in bed. Alyson thought it was her husband Alexis Denisof, but when she looked next to her, Alexis was asleep.
10. Emma Stone Talks With Her Deceased Grandfather
During an appearance in 2014 on Late Night With David Letterman, Amazing Spider-Man’s Emma Stone talked about her ghostly encounter with her deceased grandfather. Apparently, according to Stone, “There’s a long family history with quarters. My grandfather leaves quarters.” She never met her grandfather, but Stone is convinced it is him leaving behind the mysterious coins. “It’s him. It’s absolutely him.”
When asked what leads her to believe it’s him, she says the story would take too long to explain. But she continues to insist it is him. When Letterman described he would be more fascinated if there were scientific proof, Stone talked about how “that’s the joy of it,” and how “it’s not a logical thing, it’s magical.”
9. Ariana Grande’s Supernatural Experience At Stull Cemetery
Singer and Scream Queens star Ariana Grande told Complex she believes in aliens and ghosts, asserting that “We’d be so stupid to believe we are the only people here.” She went on to talk about her experiences. While she’d had no alien encounters, she did believe she had met a ghost/demon.
According to Grande, while she was in Kansas City she went to a haunted castle. Then she wanted to go to Stull Cemetery, one of the supposed seven gates of hell on Earth that the Pope won’t even fly over. She described feeling sick and an “overwhelming feeling of negativity over the whole car and we smelled sulfur, which is the sign of a demon, and there was a fly in the car randomly, which is another sign of a demon.” She decided they should leave, apologized for disturbing the demon’s peace, and snapped a photo. Ariana claims the picture had “three distinct faces” that were “textbook demons.”
We’ll never get to see this picture because she deleted it! Her reasoning? “The next day I tried to send the picture to my manager and it said, ‘This file can’t be sent, it’s 666 megabytes.’ I’m not kidding… weird things started happening to me so I deleted it.”
8. Carrie Fisher Haunted By Friend Greg Stevens
The late Carrie Fisher had a haunting experience of her own. She was good friends with Greg Stevens, a Republican politician, who died from cocaine and prescription narcotic oxycodone wrecking his diseased heart. He had shared a bed with Fisher the night of his death and she woke up to find he had overdosed. But that’s not where this sad story ends.
Fisher lives in the legendary Beverly Hills mansion, and when asked about whether there were any ghosts on the premises by Vanity Fair, she answered, “No… no, but we had Greg for a while. I was totally convinced, which kind of made me happy, because I kept thinking, Please don’t go.”
When asked what she meant, she talked about lights randomly going on and off and a toy machine she had that would curse at you also going off randomly. These events didn’t stop until she did an exorcism with her friend. But Fisher did say, Greg “didn’t just die in his sleep; he died in mine. So it’s still not gone, and I don’t think it will ever be.”
7. Matthew McConaughey Haunted In His Home By Madame Bleu
On his press tour for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past in 2009, Matthew McConaughey shared his supernatural experience with Screen Slam. Apparently, his Hollywood home was actually haunted by a spirit by the name of Madame Blue.
He said, “I was not even under the influence and she was there. She wasn’t that happy… it didn’t seem like she was going to be much fun to hang around or have in my house, so I went ahead and stood my ground. I opened the door and said ‘You can move around all you want but I’m not going anywhere.’”
McConaughey wasn’t the only one who felt her presence. People would come to his house and he said they’d comment, “’There’s someone down in that hall.’” But eventually, Madame Blue stopped visiting, and people actually miss her presence and fell in love with her former room in McConaughey’s home.
6. Peter Jackson’s Supernatural Lord Of The Rings Experience
Peter Jackson puts some pretty fantastical elements into his movies, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t experienced some pretty fantastical things in real life. In the ’90s, while Jackson was in New Zealand to film Lord of the Rings, he woke up one night to see a figure in his room. In his interview with The Telegraph he explained, “She was really scary – her face was like a silent scream. She glided across the room and disappeared into the wall.”
When he talked about this with his wife Fran in the morning, she said, “Was it the woman with a screaming face?” Apparently, she had seen the same ghost two years ago. As a result, Peter says, “I do believe in some energy, a spirit or a soul, and there’s a version of it in our latest film.”
5. Demi Lovato’s Haunted Texas House
Singer Demi Lovato wrote an article for Buzzfeed called 16 Signs You’re Becoming Demi Lovato, which included her supernatural tale.
In this section, Lovato talks about how she would go ghost hunting and how her “house in Texas is so ridiculously haunted.” She goes on to describe that it’s “Not by a bad spirit, but a little girl. I think her name is Emily. I’ve had a medium come over and ghost hunters, and they both told me the same name, Emily.” She continued to interact with Emily, calling the girl her “best friend.” A lot of other supernatural events happened in the house.
Once, when Lovato had a friend over, a movie turned on by itself and he texted that “I think this house is haunted, a movie just turned on by itself.” The ghost apparently felt playful, and texted him back the word “definitely” about 30 times. Then there was a random balloon that came down the stairs (Pennywise would be proud). According to Lovato, “I think I have a really strong connection to the afterlife.”
4. Miley Cyrus And The Haunted London Apartment
Miley Cyrus talked about her haunted house drama while she was on her European Tour in an interview with Elle UK. She had an apartment in London and said “it was really haunted and I had to move. That’s not a lie.”
The whole family had supernatural experiences in the house. The shower water randomly turned hot and scalded Miley’s little sister, Miley herself was having “really crazy dreams” and felt like there was a little boy watching her in the shower, her aunt came home to all the doors and windows open after she knew she’s closed them, and her then fiancé Liam and mother also experienced the unexplainable.
After doing some research into the place, which used to be a bakery, Miley found out it used to be owned by an older man and his son. She said “I guess the wife died or something, she had gotten sick. So it was just the son and the dad that lived there in the bakery, and then the dad died and the son took over the bakery, and I thought I was seeing the son. I’m not even kidding.”
3. Selena Gomez Uses A Ghost App
Singer and actress Selena Gomez talked about her belief in ghosts and her ghost app on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She said she “believe that spirits can tap into technology. Why not, right?” Why not, indeed? After all, why else would Snapchat’s symbol be a ghost!
She turned on the app and actually used it in Jimmy’s old studio. After the app said something that sounded like “children”, Fallon was a little creeped out and tried to joke about it. But Gomez was adamant. “Look, I was in a venue and it actually said people in my life by name,” she said. When Fallon kept making jokes, she said, “You know what, you’re actually upsetting the spirits, they’re mad at you.”
2. Joan Rivers’ Haunted Apartment
In an interview with Larry King, the late Joan Rivers talked about a ghost who just wouldn’t leave her. Even after moving, the ghost haunted her. She claimed her home was always cold and even her dog refused to go into the house. Her ghostly experience was even on an episode of Biography’s “Celebrity Ghost Stories.” Finally, she was able to get rid of the ghost with the help of ghostbuster Sally Glassman, who cleaned the place for her.
Apparently, Joan found out a woman had previously died in her apartment, a Mrs. Spence. Even the doorman knew about her. Joan even hung her portrait in her vestibule to appease her.
When asked if her family had any other supernatural experience, she talked about her uncle in Russia. His dead brother woke him up saying “‘Get up, get up. Your house is burning.’” And the other side of his house was actually on fire.
Lastly, Joan talked about her supernatural experience with her mother. After she came back from her mother’s funeral, she said, “I opened my medicine chest, and there was the first good piece of jewelry I’d ever given her, in my medicine chest.”
1. Jenna Bush-Hager And Hillary Clinton Experience Ghosts In The White House
Jenna Bush-Hager, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, spoke during an interview on the Tonight Show in 2009 about the White House being haunted. Apparently, she had been visited multiple times by spirits. “I heard a ghost,” she said, “I was asleep, there was a fireplace in my room and all of a sudden I heard 1920s music coming out. I could feel it. I freaked out and ran into my sister’s room. She was like, ‘Please go back to sleep, this is ridiculous.’”
This isn’t the first time someone associated with the White House has had a supernatural experience. Confirmed by Snopes to be mostly true, former first lady Hillary Clinton communed with the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt during a séance. This was announced by her husband at a dedication event for New York City’s Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park.
However, Dr. Jean Houston, the advisor who worked with Clinton, said these were not communes with the dead but really an “imaginative exercise to force her ideas, to think about how Eleanor would have responded to a particular problem.” The ghost whisperer story sounds a lot more fun, though!
