We all remember the scene from The Empire Strikes Back: Luke Skywalker and Han Solo trying to survive the sub-zero temperatures of planet Hoth by finding shelter in the stomach of a Tauntaun. For you Star Wars enthusiasts out there, your reenactment sessions are about to get a little more “authentic,” as you too can now find shelter from the frozen wastelands (your front yard in winter) inside your very own Tauntaun stomach!

What started out as an April Fools joke has now became a reality for sale; Think Geek is offering Tauntaun sleeping bags to those who want, starting this November.

Here’s the April Fools joke that started it all (it makes for a pretty good press release if you ask me):

In the sub-zero wasteland of the planet Hoth, only the strong survive… and of course those lucky Jedi protected by the thick skin of a Tauntaun. Now after exhaustive movie viewing research and analysis ThinkGeek Labs has isolated the exact synthetic compounds needed to re-create Tauntaun fur. What have we done with this supreme knowledge? Created a Tauntaun sleeping bag of course.

Pretty humorous. Now for the actual description of what you get for your money:

This high-quality sleeping bag looks just like a Tauntaun, complete with saddle, internal intestines and plush lightsaber zipper pull. Now when your kids tell you their favorite Star Wars movie is “Attack of the Clones” you can nestle the wee-ones snug in simulated Tauntaun fur while regaling them with the amazing tale of “Empire Strikes Back”.

* Classic Star Wars sleeping bag simulates the warmth of a Tauntaun carcass
* Built-in embroidered Tauntaun head pillow
* Plush Lightsaber zipper pull
* Great for playing pretend “Save Luke from the Wampa” games
* Teach your children about the best Star Wars movie ever
* Fully Licensed Lucasfilmâ„¢ Collectable
* Enough room for adults, plenty of space for kids
* 100% Polyester construction, Machine washable
* Bag Dimensions – 33″ x 67″ (not including head pillow or legs

That lightsaber zipper really does seal the deal, if you ask me.

Think Geek should have limited quantities of the Tauntaun sleeping bag in stock sometime in early November, priced at $99.99. If you would like to purchase one, go HERE to place your order.

BONUS: In case you have kids too young to understand why you want them to sleep inside of some weirdo animal-themed sleeping bag, just show them this clip and tell them “It’s from the old Star Wars movies – the ones that DIDN’T suck.”

  1. Effin’ awesome but $100? Seems a bit to pricey for me. I’ll just stick to sleepin gin a fresh buffalo carcass.

  2. WOW, the lightsaber zipper pull is genius!! (unzipping is like cutting it open with the lightsaber!!!)

    If it gets cheaper I might just buy it simply because I’m such a huge geek apparently… 😀

  3. That’s awesome. Cozy and cute. lol

  4. I actually tried to purchase this last April.

  5. That is just to funny!

  6. All is right with the world.

  7. Are the backpack carriers that good? I heard of a couple of times when parents ended up dropping their youngster utilizing the carrier, not certain whether thats the parents negligence though.
