Ahsoka Tano might make her live-action debut in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as director J.J. Abrams teases a possible cameo. Throughout the promotion of The Rise of Skywalker, one of the biggest selling points has been that the movie is the final entry in the Skywalker Saga. Abrams has made it clear that he didn't just approach The Rise of Skywalker as the end of the current trilogy, but instead as a way to wrap up the ongoing story that began with the original trilogy.

The focus of The Rise of Skywalker is still on Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), but the movie will also include characters from across the saga. The prime example of this is Abrams and co-writer Chris Terrio bringing The Emperor (Ian McDiarmid) back in some form. Fans will also see Billy Dee Williams reprise his role as Lando Calrissian, and there is speculation that Denis Lawson could return as Wedge Antilles, too. These characters could be just a handful of familiar ones to appear in The Rise of Skywalker, and now Abrams is teasing the possibility of Ahsoka being one of the surprise appearances.

In an interview with SoraNews24, Abrams was asked who his favorite Star Wars character is. His answer wasn't Ahsoka - it's actually Han Solo - but he asked the interviewer for his favorite character, which is Ahsoka. After this confession, Abrams responded by saying, "Hmmm, Ahsoka, huh? Well then you’ll probably want to watch closely during The Rise of Skywalker." Abrams wouldn't expand on this tease any further, though.

Debuting in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated movie in 2008, audiences were first introduced to Ahsoka Tano when she was a newly named apprentice to Anakin Skywalker. Even though the reception to the movie and Ahsoka was not great, the development she received during the animated The Clone Wars show changed this greatly. She became a fan-favorite character during this time and was then brought back for Star Wars: Rebels in a limited capacity. Ahsoka will return in animated form in season 7 of The Clone Wars on Disney+ next year, but it also sounds like fans will see her in live-action for the first time in just a couple of days.

Based on this tease though, fans should keep expectations low for the capacity of Ahsoka's role, as it's not like she'll be the one to take on The Emperor in the end. Instead, Abrams' tease that fans of Ahsoka should "watch closely" indicates it will be a quick appearance by her. There has already been speculation that The Ghost - the ship from Rebels - is featured in the marketing, so it's possible that Ahsoka's cameo could come as The Resistance does communication checks before a big fight if she's piloting or aboard the ship. Abrams has also used Force flashbacks before in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so she could also potentially appear in that capacity as well.

There are a lot of possibilities for Ahsoka's cameo in The Rise of Skywalker, and it will be a significant moment for her fanbase when it happens, as it could reveal what happens to Ahsoka after Rebels. And if she doesn't wind up appearing in the movie, then this would be a strange tease for Abrams to make at this point in the press tour. Thankfully, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be out soon and hopefully treat viewers to an exciting Ahsoka Tano cameo.
