It turns out that Rey’s new Star Wars: Battlefront II lightsaber shown in leaked gameplay footage is just a bug and nothing more. The video game, which is a follow up to the 2016 EA video game Star Wars: Battlefront, is slated for release on November 17, 2017 and will feature Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi heroine Rey as a playable character.
While concrete information about the mysterious Rey is scarce, we now know that her backstory will be explored in the upcoming installment The Last Jedi. One of the biggest questions that has been circling the internet and has been subject to many fan theories is the identity of Rey’s parents and how they play into the Star Wars universe and established canon. But another Rey theory has been making the rounds on the internet as of late and it comes courtesy of a recent leaked video of Battlefront II.
Earlier this week we posted an article covering a moment in the leaked video that revealed what looks like Rey wielding a new blue lightsaber; one that’s different than Luke’s lightsaber, which she acquired in The Force Awakens. Now, thanks to a designer who has been working on the game, it has been confirmed that Rey does not have a new lightsaber; it is just a bug that’s making the weapon look different.

Although Rey’s big lightsaber reveal has been debunked, other information has been revealed the past couple of days about both Battlefront II and The Last Jedi that should hold fans over until both the video game and film arrive in stores and theaters. First, there are new images of Supreme Leader Snoke’s guards, and a first look at the caretaker creatures Luke has been living with on the planet Ahch-To. There has also been an exciting new trailer of the upcoming video game that was revealed at this year’s EA Play event.
The question does remain, though: Will Rey craft her own lightsaber in The Last Jedi? Considering that both Anakin and Luke Skywalker crafted their own lightsabers in the prequel and original trilogies, it makes sense if Rey were to follow the Jedi path. For now, though, it seems like Battlefront II will not be giving us any of these answers.
