Marvel Comics and Star Wars have revealed a new look at their upcoming Obi-Wan series that will show how the Clone Wars continued to haunt Kenobi during his exile on Tatooine. It's no secret that the Jedi Order had a complex relationship and role within the Clone Wars, compromising themselves to such a level that it led to their ruin thanks to the Sith. Now, this new preview for Obi-Wan #3 teases that Kenobi will be reflecting on the true role and purpose of a Jedi during war, looking back on an unseen conflict he experienced fighting for the Republic.

Marvel Comics' upcoming Obi-Wan series will depict a different and previously unseen point in Obi-Wan's life as he reflects on his past while watching over young Luke Skywalker, the galaxy's new hope. While the first issue will reveal an adventure Obi-Wan had as a youngling, the second will see Obi-Wan as a Padawan with his master Qui-Gon Jinn.

Now, StarWars.com has revealed a first look at Obi-Wan #3 from Christopher Cantwell and Allesandro Miracolo which will see Kenobi looking back at the Clone Wars, specifically a conflict known as the Battle of Abrion Bridge. Apparently filled with painful memories and bloodshed, it seems as though this particular conflict was one of Obi-Wan's darker experiences as a Jedi general leading the Republic's clone troopers into battle. Here's the cover art from Phil Noto and the issue synopsis for the issue which will prove the Clone Wars left its scars long after its end for the exiled Jedi Master.

  • THE BATTLE OF ABRION BRIDGE!
  • While continuing to wait out a nasty sandstorm on Tatooine, Obi-Wan reflects on one of his most grueling experiences in the Clone Wars…
  • It’s a memory full of pain and bloodshed, and one that has lasting consequences.
  • The battle also reminds Obi-Wan of an age-old question he has long wrestled with throughout his life: what is a Jedi’s true purpose in war?

Had the Jedi Order not become so embroiled in the politics of the era, they would have been less susceptible to the manipulations of Palpatine, the Sith Lord who was right under their noses as the Republic's Supreme Chancellor. The Clone Wars saw the Jedi compromising themselves, becoming generals and commanders rather than keepers of the peace as they were meant to be. However, how does a Jedi keep the peace in wartime? It's apparently something Obi-Wan would continue to be haunted by years after during his exile in the desert.

At any rate, it will be exciting to see a new conflict from the Clone Wars which wasn't covered by the animated series. The new comic series will also provide more Kenobi content for Star Wars fans will no doubt be clamoring for more with the Obi-Wan Kenobi live-action series coming to Disney+ in May.
