There are few pop cultural events as hotly anticipated as the release of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens in December. The first film in the third Star Wars trilogy is still months away, but new updates are beginning to emerge, causing widespread excitement and speculation. There is now new Star Wars merchandise, updated character posters, and debate has even begun around for casting Star Wars: Episode VIII, even before full plot details of The Force Awakens are released.
It’s clear people are hungry for updates about the upcoming film, and we can now reveal there is a new image that gives us a closer look at one of the main villains.
The new image is of Adam Driver (Girls) as Kylo Ren. Not much is known about his character except that he is a member of the Knights of Ren and is pivotal to the plot. Here he is again wearing all black, face is obscured by his mask. From his pose he could be shown in battle, wielding his trademark crossgaurd lightsaber.
Unlike the masked Darth Vadar, it seems unlikely that Ren’s face will be covered for the entire movie. Images have been released of Ren mask free on a mystery ice planet, though it has not yet been revealed if the mask is worn out of preference or necessity.

Hopes are high that this film will restore the Star Wars franchise to its original glory, and help erase 2005’s Revenge of the Sith from our collective memory. With so much of the original cast returning, and the incredible batch of talented up-and-coming actors rounding out the cast, the film seems poised for success. Driver, in particular, is an exciting choice for the villain, having already taken on numerous complex roles in his relatively short career.
As with any production that comes complete with high expectations and a vocal fanbase, there will likely be some complaints regardless of how talented the cast is. Either way, there is no doubt that The Force Awakens will do anything but dominate the holiday box office.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18th, 2015, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16th, 2016, Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26th, 2017, and the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25th, 2018. Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to reach theaters in 2019, followed by the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.
