Samuel L. Jackson Wants To Be In ‘Star Wars Episode 7′

1 year ago by

When Disney and Lucasfilm made the shocking announcement that George Lucas would be selling off his empire to Mickey Mouse and co. and relaunching the Star Wars film franchise in 2015 with Star Wars Episode 7, the reaction was mostly positive. New creative vision, new live-action Star Wars movies, etc., sounded like things we all wanted to see.

We gathered 20 of the greatest reactions to the Disney - Star Wars news and among them was Samuel L. Jackson who when asked about his thoughts on the deal, simply said “He got cheated!” in reference to Lucas getting $4 billion for the deal which he immediately donated to Education. Now, he’s singing a different (read: more positive) tune.

The 10th annual Spike Video Game Awards took place Friday, and Samuel L. Jackson returned to host once again. He was in a genuinely good mood, before, during and after the live show and provided plenty of entertainment. His face was put into scenes from many of the nominated games, much to the laughter of the audience, and in an interview with E! News, he answered a few questions about the Star Wars happenings, this time prepared for press.

“I’m not surprised but totally geeked by the idea of there being more Star Wars. It’s like, okay, Obi-Wan was dead when episode four started, so maybe everyone thinks I’m dead and we’ll find out what happened to Mace Windu. I can come back as one-armed or a one-handed Jedi that’s still around that didn’t actually die.”

Would Jackson return if asked?

“Hell yeah!… I could do that or be a ghost hologram. I don’t care. I just want to stay associated with the franchise. Not that I won’t because I’ve been in three of them.”

Of course Jackson would love to return. During the Spike VGAs he even joked about being in every movie. He’s currently enjoying a 9-picture contract with Marvel Studios to return again-and-again as Nick Fury for years to come, and that makes him part of the Disney family.

Before the Disney-Lucasfilm deal became official, George Lucas had met with Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher to let them know he was planning on making more films. Since that time, both have expressed interest in returning, along with Ewan McGregor and Harrison Ford. Who wouldn’t want to return to one of the biggest pop culture franchises of all-time? Especially with the excitement surrounding a new creative team taking over.

Would you like to see Mace Windu show up via flashback or as Jedi ghost?

  1. “Who wouldn’t want to return to one of the biggest pop culture franchises of all-time?”

    Ha ha ha ha!

    ME!

  2. Watch out Disney. Don’t cater to the desires of inflated actors that wish to be relevant again (Hamill and Carrie Fisher, not Samuel L.). You owe them nothing, and I fear that any shoehorned reference to an aged Luke, Leia or Han–or even a possibly dead Mace Windu–would be too forced. Distance yourself, Disney, from Lucas’s mixed legacy, as hard as that is.

  3. No. Please no.

  4. There is absolutely no need for the Mace Windu character to appear in SW7. More, it would be in Disney’s/Lucasfilm’s best interest to for the most part not include any direct links to the prequel trilogy. A fresh start is the best idea.

I would even be in favor of re-casting Luke/Leia/Han, although there is some understandable logic to bringing the original cast back if their actual ages match the story. But my bottom line is this: make a good film, regardless of what casting decisions lead there.

  5. Mace Windu back in Ep VII? Hell yeah, I’d enjoy that!

  6. MMMMMMM b****!

  7. Yes to Hamil and Fisher NO to Samuel Jackson. Mace is not central to the story line. If you are going to bring back anyone from the dead it should be DARTH MAUL.

    • Darth Maul was an awesome character. Maybe he could be a cyborg in Episode VII.

      • they did that in the animated serious not suprise if they did

  8. i’m confused, he says obi-wan was dead when episode IV started??? how come no one picked up on that, or did I watch a different film… he was awful in the I, II, III but so was everyone … except Liam Neeson and he destroyed the galaxy ha

    • Luke: “I thought he (Obi-Wan) was dead”
Obi-Wan: “No, he’s not dead, not yet.”

  9. If Mace Windu would be included in Episode VII as “flesh and blood” and not as a ghost, then there would be a problem because I think he would be very, very old…a lot older than Obi Wan in Episode IV. If that’s the case, I wonder how strong he would still be? Could he still lift a light saber with his hands? If he were a Lannik (Master Yoda’s species), then the age issue won’t be much of a factor because Lanniks have very long lifespans. Windu may become the “Yoda” of the new trilogy. But then, Windu’s human, hence, longevity is not his strong suit and I don’t think his being the “most powerful Jedi” after Yoda (eg. No. 2 spot in the Jedi Council) will help him any.

So if he’s gonna come back in the trilogy, I’d like to see him more in the “video archives” of the Jedi Council (those records that survived the purge in Episode III). I mean, Luke would most likely be re-establishing the Jedi Council in the new series and he would be gathering and reviewing any records that he can get his hands on in order to restore the Council to it’s former position in the galactic republic.

    Just an idea.

    • Err, sorry to go off-topic awhile here, but Lucas has never named Yoda’s species, so we don’t know what he is. Lanniks look similar to Yoda but they’ve got different skin tones and are slightly different physically.

Other than that, I like your idea of him making more of a cameo rather than full appearance (the Jedi archives idea is a very neat one). To stretch believability by trying to resurrect him would strain the credibility of the franchise, not to mention compromise the impact of his death in Episode III.

    • I Think he should be some feeble old– like 110 because that’s realistic in terms of the series– jedi that is pretty much just a battle droid with a samuel L jackson head and maybe one samuel L Jackson arm too. The robot body of the droid would have been installed after he, “Fell to his (implied) death,” he was basically paralyzed and he broke almost every bone in his body. The Only way to save him was to make him a cyborg. He can walk around now and everything but he’s still old and weak. He’s just a cameo role obviously.

OR he’s not weak because the cyborg body is keeping him youthful and he’s like some badass that meets the main cast in the supporting movie in some bar and gets in a bar fight. He’s always brawling and he’s probably like always cage fighting in an illegal blood-sport fashion. He meets the new cast and he gives them some guidance or direction in one or two scenes in the 7th and 8th film before being killed off in the 9th in some kind of sacrifice respectable style that actually makes mace windu look really respectable. But still he can’t be a big part of the movie, just a bit of a reference to the earlier movies so fans can connect the dots. If he’s a lead role people will be annoyed because then they’d have to explain how he further survived both the fall and his implied demise as well as the purge. He couldn’t survive both without a super lengthy explanation, and if they do that that requires flashbacks or long storytelling dialogue about the purge and nobody wants to directly revisit the prequel trilogy!

  10. Samuel L. Jackson just wants to have more action figures made of himself, so he can play with himself.
I personally wish that SW7 won’t have any of the actors return, but I feel Samuel L. Jackson can just play a diffent character. Put him in a helmet and call him Darth MF; everybody’s happy.

  11. I think Sam is awesome, but please no prequel specific characters in the new movies. None! Not even force ghosts. Quarantine those suckers! Thank you!

    • I think Sam Jackson is awesome too, and I agree. I don’t want Windu in the new movies.

That said, I wouldn’t mind seeing Qui-Gon Jinn or McGregor’s Obi-Wan in some form – but I guess if you have those two as “ghosts” it would only make sense to have Windu as well.

  12. It’s weird how it used to be that geek movies were seen as kind of charity work for actors and now big name actors like Samuel. L Jackson are desperate to be in these films.

What’s weird is how Samuel brings up the fact that he was in the prequels as if it’s going to win any favors with Star Wars geeks. Because Star Wars 1-3 are the greatest things in Geek culture! Nope, nobody ever complains or over-reacts badly to those films!

Seriously I hear one person telling me Disney molested their childhood with Episodes 7-9 and I’m jumping ship to Star Trek.

    • Only geeks use the word geek these days :P

  13. It was always planned for Luke at least to come back in some capacity. Most often this was quoted as a Ben Kenobi like mentor to a new Jedi. Makes sense to me. I’d like to see Leia and Han back too. Those actors/characters were just more colourful and interesting to me than anyone in the prequels. And the new trilogy is meant to continue the Skywalkers storyline. Others films will occur outside of that. After years of denying it, Lucas has gone back to his original plan for there to be three trilogies about the Skywalker family (it was even 12 back in 76!). Download The Secret History of Star Wars. Very eye opening…

  14. Sam (Mace Windu) and the others could all appear as holograms to train the new crop of Jedi!

  15. It’s done, the story told over 6 episodes is done. Please don’t bring up the old story anymore. Tell a new, fresh, and different story. I don’t want to hear, luke, darth vader, sith, yoda, storm troopers, clones, I especially don’t want to hear Anikin. That whiney boob that killed all that was cool about Darth Vader in 4, 5, and 6.

NO MORE!!! Just make a new story. I’m just happy that Lucas isn’t a part of it to ruin it again.

    • Sorry to break it to you, but you will definitely be hearing about the Sith and Yoda/Jedi and you’ll probably be hearing about the clones, storm troopers, Darth Vader/Anikin and Luke as well if the story takes place after the events of EpVII.

And as much as I dislike the prequel trilogy too, let’s not forget that if it weren’t for Lucas, there wouldn’t be anything to ruin… and no Star Wars AT ALL.

So quit whining and wait! ;)

    • Bring Windu back, I personally like both trilogies. Mace’s body could have been recovered on Coruscant by the rebels (the CIS remnants, or clone troopers who did not follow order order 66) frozen in carbonite at a hidden base…

      • It is possible to bring mace back since we technically don’t know what happened to him his body was never recovered. so it is possible he survived somehow froze himself to preserve himself from aging or something who knows.

  16. After serious thought if they make it rated R and allow Tarantino to direct, Jackson can play Mace Windu. He’d have lines like, “This Mother F’er made out with his sister? What kind of from a mother f’ing point of view is this sick s***” or “Do you read the Jedi code? You know what my favorite verse is mother f’er? It goes like this, “The path of the righteous Jedi is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is the Jedi who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is Master Windu, mother f’er, when I lay my one hand vengeance upon thee!”

Just saying, Jackson’s best stuff is when he gets to say Mother F’er a lot. And the prequels would’ve been awesome if he had.

  17. Windu , just stop it.. just stop it! Ep7 does not need you .. and neither did the prequels. Sorry. Lucas sold out by including this useless character. I hope they dont make the same mistake twice

  18. I wouldn’t have a problem with SLJ’s character coming back in hologram form. But, Mace (and Anakin/Darth Vader) should not be resurrected.

  19. All i know is i want some more seriously epic and badass lightsaber duels dammit!!!

  20. Isn’t this the same crap he bulled back in ’97 when he was on the David Letterman show and he blurted out that he’d love to be in the star wars movie and George Lucas heard about it and called him up the next day to have him jump on the bandwagon? Originally Mace Windu wasn’t in the script at all so George catered to Mr. Jackson’s needs and on top of that gave him a different lightsaber because Mr. Jackson wanted to stand out form the rest.

I think you are done Mr. Jackson lets stick to Nick Fury you can draw out great lines from that character.

    • pulled*

  21. Drop Jackson like a year old cow-flop. And cast as Nick Fury?! Egad. I’m sure a lot better and unknown actors could had been located. Why keep feeding Jackson’s off-shore bank account? He’s not anything special and since ego is now surfaced should be dropped by putting that ego justly and firmly in its place.

Hey Samuel! Don’t go away mad. Just go away.

  22. Maybe bring back Hamill, Fisher, and Ford but use them in looking into the past events that made them into who they are now. Jedi Grand Master and parents to Jacen and Jaina. Recast with younger actors to act out the history of how their characters evolved.

It would work if they went that route for bringing them back.

  23. Here is the shocking turn of events for The Avengers 2. The Avengers find out Nick Fury is MACE WINDU!!! Use the force Tony! Use the FORCE!!!

  24. I think Mace should make a come back. I’ve been thinking a lot as to what had happened to his body. It hasn’t been explained yet. Just like the disappearance of Republic Commando Sev.

  25. I think Mace should make a come back. I’ve been thinking a lot as to what had happened to his body. It hasn’t been explained yet.

  26. It isn’t outrageous to assume that Mace actually survived. When characters like Darth Maul whom upon being bisected while seemingly plummeting to his death down a reactor pit somehow miraculously survived. Mace Windu was an exceptional Jedi and Legendary Master of the Order (source wookipedia: Master Mace Windu held the title during the last years of theRepublic’s Golden Age, stepping down after the Battle of Geonosis so as to take a more active role in the Clone Wars.)

    - Jedi and Sith alike have been known to overcome seemingly impossible feats over the course of history, while grabbing on a ledge is possible for Mace Windu there are several other scenario’s I can think of that would justify his character’s survival.

    - In Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones, Obi Wan fell an undetermined distance, that is until Anakin saved him with the speeder. – And subsequent to this Anakin deliberately leaped from his Speeder (While in pursuit of a changling bounty hunter.) fell at an alarming rate where he landed harmlessly on the bounty hunters Speeder some distance below.

    - In the cartoon, Mace Windu has demonstrated the ability to leap great distances (Although this might have been exaggerated a bit.) and land effortlessly without any harm done.

    - In The Force Unleashed Galen Marek leaped from a window (Which was quite a distance.) and landed harmlessly at the bottom.

    - Mace Windu was also had rare adept force abilities like Shatterpoint. (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shatterpoint), the wookipedia also goes so far as to mention that this ability was exhibited during revenge of the sith. Presumably one of the reasons he managed to defeat Palpatine. I believe that the Shatterpoint technique would be of use to him in discovering a way to save himself.

    - I believe that only 19 years have passed since Revenge of the Sith (Episode III), and a new Hope (Episode IV), Mace windu was 53. There is a 53 year gap between revange of the sith and Star Wars Episode 7, so, he would be 106. Again, we’ve to take into account the characters Wisdom, Intelligence, Skill, and position as the former Master of the Order. Of which there have only been 6 notable individuals over the course of history. This does not mean that the character ‘had’ to perish as a result of old age. But rather that he was powerful enough or acquired an ability in the force to slow down the growth process. (source wookipedia: Human life expectency is usually up to 100 standard years ages up to approximately 800 have been reached among Force-sensitive individuals) Again, Mace has demonstrated both fierce and resourceful technique in his force wielding abilities.

    - To justify the characters lack of contribution, that Mace like many other Jedi went into exile. Or went to his home planet, (opprotunity to expand his relationship with the character Kar Vastor. We do not know much about the Korun. Gives an opportunity to expand here as well.)

    • Why not say Mace was like 30, and make him 83. Is it that hard?

  27. I would love to see Ewan McGregor back, not so sure with L Jackson.

Don’t get me wrong, he was one of my favourites but think about how old he’s going to be if he comes back as flesh and bones Lol

  28. obi wan not dead if all jedies and othere characters die and there body is still there then there dead but obi wan who really the first to do force spead got off the deadth star and only him and who else but vader new later on you see him as a ghost at that time he has died from old age and what out a douth probly one of best characters in the movie series
