There is no shortage of franchises in Hollywood, but one of the biggest of all-time returned with record shattering results last year. Star Wars is now truly back, with Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens having given fans their first film set in the galaxy far, far away since 2005, and it quickly erased any worries about the revitalized franchise's quality. Now that it is back, Star Wars: Episode VIII is one of the most anticipated films of next year, but Lucasfilm and Disney are going to try and hold fans over by releasing their first non-saga film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, at the end of the year.

The aftermath of The Force Awakens put Daisy Ridley (Rey) in the position of being one of the rising stars in the film industry and having a sizable and important role moving forward. When it comes to Rogue One, the same result could be in store for Felicity Jones, who stars as Jyn Erso. Both of these women are currently the faces of the franchise - something that has spawned fan theories about them being related (as in, Jyn being Rey's mother).

Ridley was recently interviewed by Yahoo about her first meeting with Felicity Jones, which apparently went really well. One of the interesting things from Ridley's perspective was being able to talk to somebody who is currently living the life she had at the same time last year, and will again a year from now. Not only was that experience exciting for her, but she is also very much looking forward to seeing the next installment in the Star Wars franchise:

It was weird, I’ve talked so much retrospectively about what was going on [in the lead-up to Force Awakens]. It was so odd to be reliving it. And she gets to go talk about this film that she’s part of in all these amazing places. I feel like ‘jealous’ is the wrong word, but I had such a good time in the run-up to the film, and it was all so exciting. Knowing that she’s experiencing that is so great. Plus the film’s meant to be amazing, so it’s a fantastic continuation of the Star Wars world.

Daisy Ridley as Rey in Star Wars Episode VIII

One of the biggest questions left for audiences after The Force Awakens was who are Rey's parents. Fan theories have long wondered if she is a Skywalker, a Solo, or even a Ken-Obi, but there are some that believe that Rey could be the daughter to Jyn. If Ridley knows this is the answer, she is not saying, but she is going into the film with an open mind, ready to be "blown away" by what she sees:

I don’t know. That’ll be interesting when I see [Rogue One]. But I don’t watch things and think in that way. So I think I’m just gonna watch it and be blown away.

While the timeline could potentially match up for Jyn to be Rey's mother, there's not been anything in the Rogue One marketing thus far to support the idea. Moreover, it's far from a given that Jyn and/or any of the Rogue One squad make it out of their upcoming film alive. Unless Jyn has had a child at her young age, this theory does not seem plausible - but again, without knowing the fate of Jyn in Rogue One, it cannot be completely dismissed for the time being.

Even if Rogue One does not answer this question in particular, fans should be learning more about Rey's parentage in Episode VIII. Now they just have to be able to wait till then, or potentially longer, to find out who her family is.
