Rogue One: A Star Wars Story may still be several months away from release, but if there’s ever a time to celebrate Star Wars then it’s during the fan convention Star Wars Celebration, which is currently taking place in London. With Star Wars: Episode VIII currently filming and Rogue One in reshoots it’s a busy time for Lucasfilm, but there are a few special guests at the convention including Rogue One director Gareth Edwards, Episode VIII writer/director Rian Johnson, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and actors Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.
Also present at Star Wars Celebration 2016 is Screen Rant’s own Rob Keyes, so expect plenty more reports and news (including a brand new trailer for Rogue One) as the weekend progresses. Among the convention’s exhibits is a display of costumes, props, and vehicle models from Rogue One, which offer a sneak peek at what fans can expect to see in the movie.
Since Rogue One is a prequel to A New Hope, the vehicles in the movie will be a bit of a nostalgia trip for fans of the original trilogy. On display at SWCE are villain Orson Krennic’s (Ben Mendelsohn) Imperial Shuttle, the AT-ACT walker, a TIE fighter variant called the TIE striker, and – of course – the mighty Death Star. Check out images of the vehicles – along with their official descriptions – below.
The Death Star is the Empire’s ultimate weapon: a moon-sized space station with a superlaser capable of destroying an entire planet. The brainchild of Grand Moff Tarkin, the Death Star nears completion – and once ready, will serve as the Emperor’s principal means of spreading fear throughout the galaxy.
A streamlined variant of the classic TIE fighter design, the TIE striker is designed for atmospheric patrols over important Imperial ground-based installations. The versatile design can also soar in space, where it can accompany traditional TIE fighters in chasing down enemy starships.
Imperial AT-ACT Cargo Walker
A larger version of the standard combat AT-AT, the AT-ACT walker features a dedicated cargo bed for the transportation of heavy building materials or combat munitions. It was deployed at major Imperial construction projects, such as shipyards and sprawling research installations.
Krennic’s Imperial Shuttle
With its starkly geometric hull shape and folding bat-like wings, the approach of Delta-class T-3c shuttle is an imposing sight. Once it lands and deploys its passengers – the cruel Director Krennic and his squad of elite troopers, all sense of dread proves extremely warranted.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story follows a group of rebels as they embark on a dangerous mission to steal the plans for the original Death Star. The cast of rebels includes Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Diego Luna as Captain Cassian Andor, Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe, Jiang Wen as Baze Malbus, Riz Ahmed as pilot Bodhi Rook, and Alan Tudyk as android K-2SO.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in U.S. theaters on December 16, 2016, followed by Star Wars: Episode VIIIon December 15, 2017, the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25, 2018, Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019, and the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.
