After a wave of free content updates for Star Wars: Battlefront, the first DLC pack that is part of the $50 season pass is due for release at the end of the month. It will offer new maps, new weapons and star cards, two new playable heroes, and even a new game mode.
Outer Rim will cost $14.99 on its own, but if you’re a season pass holder, you will be able to download it a little earlier than previously reported, as it will be available from March 22. Those purchasing it separately will have to wait until April 5. Of course, the updates that have been periodically released at no extra cost were a big positive, but now comes something a little more substantial. Now EA has released a gameplay trailer to show off what exactly the first DLC will offer.
The trailer opens by having two long-time rivals, Han Solo and Greedo, square off against each other. The location of Sullust may not be known for hosting many battles in the Star Wars movies, except for a failed hostage negotiation and a scuffle above a certain Sarlacc pit, but in true Battlefront fashion, Outer Rim allows you to create your own Star Wars battle fantasies. The new playable ‘heroes’ Greedo and Nien Nunb are thrust into the action. They don’t exactly make as dramatic an entrance as Boba Fett or Darth Vader, but by the looks of things, they certainly prove useful in a firefight. The footage even gives a glimpse of one of Greedo’s abilities, as he tags six targets before dispatching them in quick succession.
New weapons in the pack include the V-10 rifle and DT-12 blaster pistol. Players will also be able to pick up three new star cards. As seen in the trailer, the scatter gun looks like it will offer a powerful blast and the dioxis grenade looks like it can take out multiple opponents in a poisonous cloud. Extraction mode has the rebel alliance look to secure previous cargo and transfer it to their transport before Empire forces do anything to try and stop them. It sounds like rather standard fare, but in action it looks like it could offer up tense and fierce shootouts.
It is expected that next week will also see more free content released, including the ‘Hutt Contracts’ mode, new missions, and a spectator mode — likely to watch others play the new maps if you’re still undecided on buying the season pass and even an increased level cap. After Outer Rim, the next pack to be released is expected to be Bespin, taking players to Cloud City sometime in the summer. This fall is expected to bring one most anticipated add-ons with the Death Star DLC pack. Hopefully, that will be reminiscent of the Rogue Squadron games. The fourth and final pack has not yet been titled, but will arrive early next year.
Star Wars: Battlefront is available now for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
