Ahead of its December release, post-prodcution for Star Wars: The Last Jedi will finish up at the end of the summer. While most Star Wars news right now is focused on the firing of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller from Han Solo and the addition of Ron Howard as the new director, there is still another film set in the galaxy far, far away in between now and then. Before the year is out, writer/director Rian Johnson (Looper) will share his vision for the next step in the Skywalker saga.

Though The Force Awakens was generally met with a positive reception, many fans are hoping to see The Last Jedi take a slightly darker turn and explore avenues we've yet to go down in a Star Wars film. With Rogue One proving that triumph can be mixed with tragedy and Luke's current isolation hinting at a sense of guilt, there's a lot of emotional heavy-lifting that can be done in the series. Of course, there will also be plenty of action, from lightsaber battles to dogfights in space. While principal photography has been done for a while, it looks as if The Last Jedi is finally close to wrapping post-production.

The Talkhouse Podcast just posted a discussion between Johnson and filmmaker Lily Amirpour where the writer and director revealed post-production for The Last Jedi will wrap this August. While blockbusters are known to work up until the last minute on aspects of a film, the end of post-production four months before the film is still a good sign. Granted, last minute adjustments could still be made, but it's always good to know a big spectacle film has a window to work within just in case any issues arise.

General Hux Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma in Star Wars The Last Jedi

Meanwhile, the largely absent marketing for the film will likely start kicking into high gear next month. While the new Star Wars films have followed a less-is-more strategy so far with early looks at the film, we can still likely expect a new trailer and some additional information next month. Not only will San Diego Comic-Con be occurring, Disney will also be holding their D23 expo to discuss everything under their umbrella.

And despite the secrecy surrounding the project, toy leaks continue to thwart every major blockbuster when it comes to early looks at a movie. We've already seen Kylo and new character Rose in LEGO form, along with Finn and Supreme Leader Snoke. We've also been teased with a showdown between Luke and Kylo thanks to another LEGO leak, an event that would be packed full of emotion and subtext given what we saw in The Force Awakens.

With only a few more weeks before two of the industry's biggest expos kick-off, we shouldn't have to wait much longer to learn more about The Last Jedi, so stay tuned.
