Fans attending The Last Jedi panel got to meet the newest member of the Star Wars cast, Kelly Marie Tran, at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando Friday. Following the Star Wars 40th Anniversary panel featuring George Lucas, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford Thursday, The Last Jedi panel has become the hottest ticket of the celebration's weekend. In addition to new details about the film, panel members debuted the hotly anticipated first trailer for The Last Jedi.

Asked for details by panel host Josh Gad, Tran says of her role: "My character's name is Rose. She's part of the Resistance and I can't wait for you to meet her."

Writer/director Rian Johnson gave more details about Rose, who is said to have the biggest new role in The Last Jedi. Johnson said she's part of the Resistance and works in maintenance, adding:

"She's not a soldier, she's not looking to be a hero and gets pulled into a big adventure with Finn."

Rose appears to have a unique character parallel to Finn, who was a maintenance worker on Starkiller Base before escaping from the First Order to Jakku in The Force Awakens. Finn famously revisited his post near the conclusion of the film, when he ordered Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) into the trash compactor at the suggestion of Han Solo. You can check out a photo of Tran as Rose in The Last Jedi (which was shown during the movie's Celebration panel), below:

Tran says she had to be super-secretive about her casting in The Last Jedi, noting that she couldn't even tell her family about her involvement in the film for four months. As an excuse, Tran says she told her family that she was doing an "indie movie in Canada" and even brought home maple syrup to help cover up her fib.

Also featured at The Last Jedi panel were Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and producer Kathleen Kennedy. Fans were also treated to a special appearance by BB-8. Fans waiting in the long line were treated to an early bonus for dedicating their time to attend the event: a surprise visit from Johnson, who personally greeted all those in attendance.

In addition to many of principal actors and filmmakers attending Star Wars Celebration, Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd was on-hand at the 40th Anniversary panel to pay tribute to her mother and introduce a video commemorating the screen legend's work on the Star Wars film saga.
