Just a few snippets of info from Wondercon coming from Anthony Pascale of Trekmovie.com and Jeff Bond, some speculation but what the heck:
- If it wasn’t for an established, non-Trek-related person like J.J. Abrams coming on board, there wouldn’t be a Star Trek movie in production right now.
- The idea is to satisfy long-time Trek fans but bring in new ones as well (think along the lines of what Casino Royale did for the Bond Franchise).
- The movie will not center on Starfleet Academy, most likely on Kirk and Co.’s first mission on the Enterprise.

- The Christopher Pike character will probably appear in the film.
- Abrams has never seen Deep Space Nine, Nemesis (thank God!) or Star Trek: Enterprise.
- The question of sticking to Trek “canon” is up in the air, as it was stated that if you look at all the series put together that official canon is full of holes, although the following quote from a recent press release seemed to be designed to avoid full-scale Trekkie riots:
“Alex [Kurtzman] and Bob [Orci] wrote an amazing script that embraces and respects Trek canon, but charts its own course. Our goal is to make a picture for everyone — life-long fans and the uninitiated.”
And then there’s this from MTV via IGN.com, which sounds like a pretty serious redesign of the visual look of the show:
“Orci and Kurtzman … confirmed that the film is not in any way a prequel but a reimagining of the franchise,” says MTV.com, which also adds that the plan is to simply call the film Star Trek — with no subtitles, Roman numerals, or colons anywhere in the name.
“We’re not going to start totally from scratch,” Orci tells the site regarding the look of the film. “We want it to feel like it’s updated and of the now. That’s actually the discussions we’re having now: how to keep the look of the universe yet have it not look like nothing’s new. It’s tricky.”
In other words, don’t look for a CGI update that looks like what they’re doing with the updated Trek episodes that are being aired right now.
One way or another, this is going to be VERY interesting…

Alcune indiscrezioni arrivano sull’undicesimo episodio della saga Star Trek. Secondo quanto dicihiarato a Mtv.com da Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, gli sceneggiatori, il nuovo film non sarà un semplice prequel ma un vero ‘reboot del franchising…
Has anyone stopped to think about all the things that could go wrong with the way this universes Star Trek is? Sarek will die in Journey to Babel because it was Spock’s mom that convinced Spock to go thru with the surgery to save his fathers life and if that happens when David (if he even exist) when builds the Genesis Device and its explodes Spock will die. But no one will go to Kirk to ask him to retrieve Spock’s body so the Kingons will kill David, Spock, and Savak. McCoy will most likely die in some mental hospital so sick from Spock,s Katra that no one knows how to treat him. When the Enterprise /A doesn’t work properly Kirk will go on vacation he will fall to his death because Spock will not be there to catch him. But I guess that that will all work out in the end because that mean that Spock cant make a promise to save Romulus and he and Nero cant go back in time and Screw every thing up.
