Recently there was some hubbub on the internets concerning William Shatner being angry about not having at least a cameo in the upcoming Star Trek movie. The word was that Leonard Nimoy had been approached for a part, but no one had contacted Shatner for an equivalent role. I didn’t report on it because it seemed to me to be pretty much based on third party rumor and innuendo.
Today a story came out that indicates the situation is quite the opposite.

One of the screenwriters, Roberto Orci stated:
“We’re certainly hoping to include him in the shoot, because we have nothing but reverence and awe for the man.”
Personally, I don’t have a clue how they will work Shatner and Nimoy into the story, but I have no doubt that they will. Hopefully it will make sense and not come across as just having them there for the sake of their status in the Trek universe.
There are more comments from the writers regarding the parallel between the Cold War era when Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek and today’s fear of terrorism and a few other tidbits as well over at MTV.com.

Me either but I like the idea of seeing them in little cameos. It’s just not a ST flick without them…
Yeah… For me the last TRUE Star Trek movie was #6 – “Undiscovered Country.”

I think it’ll be cool to see Shatner and Nimoy in the Star Trek franchise again,my favorite version is the original Star Trek,so to me you can’t do Star Trek without them.
I am however,unsure if Abrams can give the ST franchise fair treatment. He almost screwed the Superman franchise up REALLY,REALLY BAD. For those of you who don’t believe me,this is some of what his script included:
A Krypton that never blew up! (?)
A kryptonian Lex Luthor with superpowers! (?)
A gay Jimmy Olson! (ewwww..)
A kryptonian smoking a (cover your ears) bong!
Those were just some of the nightmares included in Mr. Abrams Superman script. I think I can wait to see his take on ST……..

PLEASE INCLUDE WILLIAM SHATNER IN THE NEW STAR TREK MOVIE! LEONARD NIMOY IS IN THE NEW MOVIE…HOPEFULLY…I DO MEAN HOPEFULLY. BUT YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO INCLUDE WILLIAM SHATNER IN THE FILM. BOTTOM LINE……IT WOULDN’T BE THE SAME WITHOUT HIM.
