Matt Keith says:

Maybe they could introduce Kahn to the series.

Matt Keith says:

new series I mean.

Longshanks says:

I would like to see more of Nero.I think that he kinda got jobbed and even though he destroyed a planet,he didn’t seem to be scary enough to me.He had potential to be one of the biggest bad asses ever, but I think that they didn’t spend quite enough time tying to establish his character.

Bill Blume says:

I really enjoyed the new “Star Trek” film (finally got to see it this week), but I hope they don’t try any more time travel stuff in the second film. That worked for the first one, and I think it allowed for a classy transition from the original version to the new one. They actually managed to do a reboot that doesn’t really negate any of the original Trek history. I rather liked that.

I think the logical place to go next would be a Klingon-related storyline. The Klingons played such a strong part in the original series as a recurring antagonist, so this just makes sense to me.

790 says:

I hope we don’t see a Kahn or any of the characters from the Original series.

Let’s see if they can fly the ship without relying on the ideas that have already been done…

I’m betting they can’t…

Andy S says:

I agree with Bill. We need a great story of Klingons as the enemy again.

LeeAnna says:

Since its an alternate timeline where the characters still exist we might see characters from the original timeline, but they would be different. The writers I think already stated this. I too would like to see Kahn, but my vote is on Klingons.

Lord Garth, Formerly of Izar says:

I love the artwork!!! More please. VIC I need to see the various Enterprise concepts. This new Enterprise has been varified by the production team to be 735 meters long. The original was about 300 meters. I think you may need to run your galactica V Trek fight again. With the raging Queen Picard at the helm of course Galactica or a Star Destroyer would crush him/her. But give James T. Kirk the keys to a ship bigger and more powerful than the any of the ugly but powerful Next Gen era ships and we have a waaaaaaaay different contest my boy

Fury2701 says:

The Doomsday Machine.

Great TOS episdoe, would work well with a GI remake. You could bring in other alien elements to the story.

There’s a great Peter David book called Vendetta that deals with a revamped Doomsday Machine that comes around in the TNG era.

790 says:

@Fury2701, They have remastered the Original series with new CGI. Its been on dvd now for months…
Vendetta was a good story but it took place hundreds of years after Kirk.

If I want to see Kahn or the Doomsday Machine, I’ll watch my dvds. I can’t believe that some people want to rehash all the “old” stories and characters. No wonder Hollywood keeps reimaging old franchises…

“0 creativity.”

Fury2701 says:

Mr. 790,

You’re missing a bit of the potential of a reboot. New stories and adventures are cool indeed but part of the excitment is to take something that was done with 1960’s era special effects and limited time and budget and give it the grand treatment. If you wanted the movie to be totally original and “creative” then it shoulnt have been called Star Trek. You could just make a more original film and called it Space Adventure movie.

Besides, arguably the best Star Trek movie is Wrath of Kahn – obviously a “rehash” of an “old story” from TOS.

cat says:

a new form of the borg. it was cool but kind of cheesy.

790 says:

@Fury2701,,,
Like I mentioned before you can see all the old Series re booted with new effects already…
^
I don’t think I’m missing the point here, the real potential lies in Star Trek doing something new. (Sounds crazy huh?). Sure use familiar aliens, but I will not pay to see a remake of any of the other films…
^
“Fury2701, you said”
(”If you wanted the movie to be totally original and “creative” then it should have been called Star Trek”)
^
So your saying that we can’t expect to see the new Kirk and Spock seek out new life and boldly go someplace else…?

Its gotta be Kahn?

Phil says:

Wow, the concept art was really impressive. Thanks for showing these, Rob.

Fury2701 says:

It doesn’t have to be Khan or The Doomsday Machine.

But I believe a combination of the old and the new would work best, that’s all.

And I meant to write that totally original and creative should not have been called Star Trek. Since it is a reboot there should be some sort of retread or rehash of existing material.

790 says:

Fury2701, I don’t have much faith in Abrams producing something original anyway. I’m sure he’s going down that road no matter what I want…
I’m pretty much done with Star Trek professionally. :-)
I don’t care anymore… Do whatever. ,,,

Fury2701 says:

You sound so sad and defeated . . .

Happy Skeptic says:

@790
My good sir, the whole point of this reboot was to bring new blood into a sadly dwindling fan base. I myself am from one of the last generations to actually enjoy the optimism and wanderlust that Star Trek embodies. That said, your argument that it needs to stand on its own merits is sound. But I would like put forth this argument: If this Star Trek can’t use any of the old ideas that made the original great, than how can you pique the curiosities of the new fans into seeing the original source material? Granted, for the next film and maybe the one after that it should be original. But at some point they NEED to bring in some of the original stories and show another way things could’ve been resolved. After all, with an alternate reality the rules change. In this new playground of imagination so much more can be seen and experienced.

790 says:

Use old ideas to bring in the new fans ??? That’s the best we can do???
^
@Happy Skeptic, I’m not a big fan of re-boots. The concept alone is a cinematic cop out. Re boots are fast becoming a new genre. Is this what we want???

What happened to coming up with something new??? Its almost a bad word in Hollywood these days.
^
Anyone remember how cool it was when Star Trek gave us the Borg for the first time. It pumped NEW life into The Next Generation and actually brought in NEW FANS and high ratings,,, it was a totally new take on aliens.

Get some fresh ideas in the new Star Trek films and the NEW FANS won’t give a crap about Kahn, or Klingons. Only the old fans care about them,,,
^
The overall problem that I have with Star Trek is that its a big rerun at this point. Were not going forward anymore… Re boots are not what we should be looking forward/backwards too,,,
(in my opinion) 8-)

Job sounds like Jobe 8) says:

@790 Im going to have to agree with you, if I wanted to see old stories I would wach the old show. I am new to star trek, and I have seen the new movie and many of the old shows, they are still very good and should be left alone.
It is kinda like waching the old batman series after waching the movies “including the older movies” I much rather wach somthing old that i have never seen rather than somthing old that i have seen -_-.

790 says:

@Job sounds like Jobe 8), Just fyi the Remastered Star Trek Original Series on Dvd or Bluray is really amazing! It looks nothing like the 60’s Batman color filtration of the past. These effects are Next Gen quality…

My Point, if you want to see upgraded 2009 CGI Vfx.for the Star Trek Original Series its already here now…

Let’s move forward where no man has gone before,,, or women. :-)

OldDarth says:

No reimaginings of previous original Trek episodes.

Something new and original, please!

790 says:

@OldDarth, is very wise,,,

8-)

JustDavid says:

790 & OldDarth are right. Star trek needs to move a whole new territory (or quadrant) for the next (hopefully) several films.

However, if someone needs to see something familiar in the next films, may I suggest an expanded role for some of the TOS and animated series’ reoccurring alien races. Let us skip the ones that have had air time in the most recent TV series though.

My vote is for the Romulins to be the new antagonist for the Federation. I have always felt they never reached their full potential in TOS. :)

Thanks for the great art work, Rob. Love it and keep it coming, please.

JessSayin says:

WOW, that artwork is killer!

I’m with Bill…Klingons, (or ‘Cling-on’s’ depending on your situation) would be a great place to start.

Also, Fury2701’s idea of the Doomsday Machine is great too.
I loved that episode!

…with fewer lens flares natch..

JessSayin says:

And MORE artwork, Rob! Amazing!!

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

I think I may have a solution for all: Let’s say in the next movie, the Enterprise is dispatched to handle an incident involving Klingons (with smooth foreheads of course, because of Augments). On the way there, Kirk and crew come in contact with the Botany Bay. Young Spock remembers a conversation he had with Spock prime about a ship of very diabolical Augments. Spock prime suggested to young Spock that it would be only logical to destroy that ship because in his timeline, these Augments die trying to destroy the Enterprise. Young Spock informs Kirk and McCoy (with some banter between Spock and Bones), and they decide to destroy the ship. Afterwards, they continue on their way to their mission. Of course, we don’t get to see nor hear Kahn but I would be satisfied because of continuity.

Hippie says:

I agree with others. The next one has GOTTA be Klingons! They’re the primary bad guys of orginal Trek!

And I for one, wouldn’t kind seeing one of the TOS baddies show up.

I would LOVE to see a movie where the main baddie is Kor (Errand of Mercy) or Kang (Day if the Dove) or even Koloth (Tribbles)!

Of the three, Kang would probably play the best on the big screen.

If not the main baddie, I’d like to see tham at least make and appearance.

790 says:

Kahless, that would become kinda laughable if everytime they ran across an old enemy Spock signals to Kirk, “echmm don’t go there.”

I could maybe see them find the Botany Bay and instead of transporting over they encounter another alien race that intervenes in some way but even that’s kinda a cop out on doing something new…

There’s a ton of ideas that they could touch upon that are written in the novels. If they absolutely can’t pull anything together.

JA says:

Someone mentioned earlier the concept of the mirror universe. Wouldn’t it be wild if this were a trilogy that eventually gets us back to the original timeline when it turns out that this event is what created the universe from Mirror Mirror. Without the logic of the Vulcans and with a paranoia developed from the Nero attacks Starfleet moves the Federation to the Empire. Movie two would end with the empire firmly established. Movie three has the mirror mirror events that get us back to the original timeline…somehow there is still a minor tweak tha allows some plot freedom the original timeline. I think it would be interesting to find out in the third movie that we’ve been pulling for the wrong guys all along. I know this is insane…but Lost is much stranger.
