There’s been a lot of buzz about the fact that supposedly Paramount will not have a major presence at Comic-Con this year - not even for their upcoming Star Trek movie. Although I received an email from them asking who from Screen Rant would be attending the Con in a couple of weeks, when I replied asking for clarification on this story I received no reply.

My very well informed bud Anthony Pascale at TrekMovie wrote 3 days ago that (at that time) there would indeed be no Paramount panels at the Con, although they would have a booth on the main floor. However, on this past Saturday night I watched G4’s 2008 Comic-Con preview and they were:
A. Quite obviously connected to sources regarding what would and would not be going on and promoted at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con.
B. Quite clear that there would be some sort of major preview and/or news about J.J. Abrams much anticipated Star Trek reboot.
I’m certainly not disputing TrekMovie’s sources… but I am wondering if Paramount is playing the marketing game here - playing coy about not having a panel, and then dropping some sort of surprise bombshell on attendees in order to generate maximum hype.
I mean look at the timing here - it coincides with Iron Man almost to the day. Iron Man had buzz prior to the Con, then at the Con Jon Favreau showed the audience some amazingly juicy footage that had everyone going wild with anticipation. That was end of July 2007 and the movie opened in early May 2008.
So now we have the same studio, Paramount, with another Comic-Con approaching at the end of July 2008, with Star Trek slated to open in… May 2009.
So the question is: Will Paramount really let the biggest promotional opportunity of the year for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek go by without taking advantage of it?
I say not bloody likely.

It will definately have some footage.
We still haven’t seen a complete shot of the ship, NOTHING from the characters, or anything at all!! I’m going CrAzYY!
Props to JJ for being the ultimate lid, keeping closed any revelations for any of his projects. That guy IS marketing.
I’d say your right on Vic. Glad your gonna cover that for us that can’t go!
You are probably right Vic but i wish they would just say so.
as a Con attendee…I find it hard to care…I think GI JOE will probably be the star of this years convention…or the red headed stepchild
Why doesnt Paramounts success with Iron Man at the con last year emboldem them to try the same thing with Trek this year ?
The sound you hear from me is a massive yawn.
I want to go on the record as not giving what Hancock might call a flying duck. (Or is that Wall-E?)
I am only saying this because the movies I’m most skeptical about turn out to rock my socks off. So, duly noted? OK Abrams, dazzle me good.
Does anyone remember the name of the site that suppose to replace startrek.com? I don’t think it was trekmovie.com.
Kahless its
http://www.trekweb.com
Trekweb isn’t replacing that site in any official or even unofficial capacity. They don’t even do any of their own news, all they do is pull it off of other sites.
Vic
i thought the successor to Star trek.com was still under devlopment.
Vic
Vic, I used the word “successor”
because the word replacement didnt apply to trekweb i was trying to find a better word.
i had read a long time ago That paramount still had plans to launch another Star trek related website which
which wouldnt be limited just to the upcoming film.
I didnt mean to imply there was soon going to be another website up and running .
It was a poor choice of words.
My apologies.
It just wouldn’t make much since to discard that site for something new IMHO.
Vic
Ok, I just now sent the editor of startrek.com an e-mail to confirm this.
Vic, I didn’t mean to make your blood pressure go into Vulcan territory. As counselor Troi instructs us, use the 2 fore-fingers for plexing under the corrauted (sp) artery.
790 and green, thanks for the info.
I meant Gary, not green.
