At the recent Vegas-Con, Paramount released another set of Star Trek character posters. These feature John Cho as Sulu, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy and Anton Yeltsin as Chekov.
Once again they’ve bathed the characters in primary colors, making it difficult to make out clearly what they really look like in character, but at least it’s something.
Check out the four posters below.

Although in my opinion the most unusual bit of Star Trek casting was Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, for some reason I have a feeling he’s really going to nail it. Although Simon Pegg doesn’t look the part, I think he’s versatile enough to pull off Scotty. Yeltsin as Chekov – no big deal. Just play it with an accent and wide-eyed. John Cho I don’t know about as Sulu though.
What do you think?

Star Trek opens on May 8, 2009.

Man this is horrible.
Is there a scene in the film where Scottys hair is burned off ????
So far this is the BIGGEST WTF character FLAW yet !!!
I seriously can’t believe after nailing the look of the other cast members they drop the ball on Scotty!!
This is looking very bad (IMO).
I don’t really think it’s vital that every single character look exactly like the original incarnations. The cast really interests me and I kind of want to see it, even without having seen much of the original series.
Its a real setback (kick in the,,,) for me, I’m hoping the image of Scotty is somehow a mistake on this poster.
We have to change the laws of Physics on this one !!
Also, I really wish Chekov wasn’t in this film.
Yeltsin, dosnt have that Monkee look Koenig brought to the role. Not to mention Chekov wasn’t in the first season.
It will be Yeltsin overload as he will also be in T4 around that time next year. Unless they move T4 up a bit.
Cho,looks passable as does Urban.
Gotta say I agree with Liz.
Regarding Chekov, I always figured he was on the Enterprise in season one of TOS, but just hadn’t been assigned to the bridge yet.
Vic
hmm…the top right segment doesn’t look like Scotty or Pegg but doing a quick search I found a pic of Pegg where he does definately look like him. He really put on some pounds for this role.

Nice link Rob, relief,,, wheew
I don’t mind him with the short hair like that, but sheesh the image in the poster looks like he’s bald and pissed that he’s bald.
“Regarding Chekov, I always figured he was on the Enterprise in season one of TOS, but just hadn’t been assigned to the bridge yet.”
Which is something supported by Star Trek 2, when Khan remembers Chekov from his time aboard the Enterprise in “Space Seed,” a Season 1 episode.
It’s Star Trek so I am looking forward to it. As long as the spirit of the original characters shine through, I wouldn’t care if they looked completely different than the original actors. Really going to be psyched when a new trailer comes out.
Come on Flamestrike, before this film, everyone considered that a mistake in the Wrath of Kahn.
I didn’t. 430 people aboard the Enterprise, and we never do see all of them in the first season. Why couldn’t Chekov have been posted elsewhere on the ship?
@790 You are absolutely correct, so I rationalized a solution that would fit within canon.
Vic
Yeah I noticed.
Gheeshh kabob.
Well I’m gonna laugh if at the end of the film, Kirk demotes him off the Bridge. That would be clever.
I’ll be shocked if that happens, 790. Orci & Kurtzman aren’t that good, and I read that Abrams was more of a Star Wars fan, and never paid much attention to Trek. So I don’t imagine the director will know enough to catch that, and the writers just won’t care.
Thanks for the compliment Flamestrike,,,
Never know they might have picked up on Chekov’s 1st season absence ???
THIS IS A MOVIE! Not real life. “Doesn’t look like Scotty”! There IS NO Scotty. It’s FAKE. Comeon people, GET A LIFE!
“Never know they might have picked up on Chekov’s 1st season absence ???”
I’d be surprised to learn they picked up on there being more than one season, much less that there were casting differences between them.
In regards to Chekov, maybe they’ll do the classic Worf, where no matter where he’s stationed he always ends up back on the Enterprise bridge for the TNG movies, heh.
@Terry
What’s your favorite TV and/or movie series? Just curious.
Vic
I had trouble recognising Pegg, let alone him as Scotty there. Still not sure what to make of this movie yet.
By the way, is Yeltsin an actual Russian? If not, we have a complete set!
Englishman = Scot
Korean = Japanese
New Zealander = American
? = Russian.
I’m not bothered by that, it just appeals to me, in an odd way.
Oh, and agree about Urban. I think he’ll do well.
Lol Rob,, I soo agree about Worf,,,
Terry Tribble, don’t eat the grain on K7, its contaminated.
(Tell your tribble friends,,)

(Tribble speak)
Steven, yeah they got a great cast. Urban’ and Quinto (IMO) are gonna steal this one.
hey Steven,
that poster doesn’t do any justice for Pegg. Check out the link I posted above in the comments. He definately looks much more like Scotty in that.
That one is better, although not sure about the suit
Agreed, Rob. That comb-over in your link just about does it – his hair’s too short in the poster to conceal the “Pegg peak”, and the lighting doesn’t do him any favours either. Very strange. Yeltsin looks more like a young Dr Bashir off DS9!
Chekov, looks like he’s just been given the order to pull out of Space dock for the first time.
“But Keptin, vee are not ready,,,”.
“I gave you an order Chekov, unless you would rather spend the first year scrubbing out Jefferies tubes !!”
Could those eyes BE any bigger? Deer in the headlights!
Terry Tribble,,,
if you ever find yourself out on Deep Space K7, don’t eat the grain !!!!
Sorry, haters, but for right now, this is my most anticipated film for next year.
I can’t wait to see the new footage.
Anton Yelchin seems like the odd choice, IMO, but he’s a good actor and I’m sure he’ll do well. If they make Teen Titans in the near future, I think he’d be great as Wally West/Kid Flash.
KEL, I’m just havin’ a larf, honest! I’m actually gagging to see the final product (and I’m not a Trekkie by any stretch of the imagination). I’m not that bothered as long as there’s some vague resemblance, I just thought the studio had made a slightly…curious choice of photos.

They can find some excuse, like he was manning the bridge on a different shift for the first season.. Junior to Mitchel among others. Then too sometimes you put experienced people on the odd shift to shepherd the inexperienced.
