Dave says:

In the Blueprints for the original enterprise there are many, many bathrooms. The one on the Bridge is behind the main view screen.

Deadpool says:

I wouldnt consider myself a diehard trekkie. Ive only seen a couple of episodes of the original show, The wrath of kahn, and most of The Next Generation (including all the films from that timeline) Maybe thats why I dont understand this debate over bathrooms on the bridge. I think its kinda funny.

Does anyone know if the actors are signed on for multiple movies? Are they going to do a new franchise with this, or is it supposed to be a stand alone story? I hope they set up for the sequel. My head has always been in the stars and I love to see the exploration and adventures in the unknown. Star Trek is like my dreams on the screen.
Anyone have a favorite Trek character? (from any iterations of the show or movies)

790 says:

@Dave, right behind the main Viewscreen,,, wow that means a direct hit to the forward bridge could get very ugly if shields are down,,, ;-)

Deadpool, I’ve heard that all the main players are signed on for 2 more Star Trek sequels.
I think its clear to say that Abrams wants to go forward after this film with movies set in the Kirk timeline… (Prob pre-series)

My fav character has got to be “Q”…

Rob Keyes says:

@ Mark,

I’ve seen that design before in the games. As Vic says, the blue is the satellite panel and that’s the neck/body portion. The other side of the ship has one centered Warp nacelle I would think.

@Deadpool, I think they want to franchise this and JJ’s goal is to show paramount that Trek can be successful.

@Deadpool

Don’t recall if they’re signed on but the plan IS to make this a “new” franchise if the first film does well.

Vic

Deadpool says:

Thanks everyone. Thats good news. Im getting more and more psyched about this movie every time I see something new. Hopefully they open up a bit more and give the fans some more details/pics/clips. Just not to the extent that they did with Iron Man.

My favorite character had to be Will Ryker (obsessed fanboys, if I spelled that wrong Im sorry. Please dont accost me!)

David says:

This is my first post on Screen Rant, hi everyone. I’ve been a trekkie since I was 11. My favorite character has always been the original Lady herself (NCC-1701), fallowed closely by Uhura. If anyones interested, I found an artists rendering of what the new Enterprise may look like based on what can be seen in the first trailer for the film. http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/judexavier/STXINCC-17013View.jpg
As a fan of Jeffries designs I spent hours searching for some glimpse of the new Enterprise with hi hopes and deep dread. This rendering I like and would be happy to see in the film but doubt it is what we’ll see on the big screen.

Hi David,

Welcome to the site. I’m a huge Star Trek fan going WAY back.

Vic

David says:

Hi Vic,

So am I, that would be about 33 years for me.

For the new movie to be good to me, JJ will have to hold true to the characters created by Rodenberry and brought to life by the original cast. I don’t mean copy their performances though.

The reason Uhura is my favorite is because Nichols played her as a strong and subtle woman that had a fire under control in her soul. We see that fire come to the surface in ‘Space Seed’ and ‘The Naked Time’.

If JJ can bring that kind of complexity to Rodenberry’s creations this will be the begining of a beautiful franchise.

Deadpool says:

Hey David. Welcome!
I would say that my feelings for The Next Generation are similar to yours for the original. I too am psyched for this movie, and I think Ive seen enough of the original show and movies to appreciate the past. One thing I would suggest to you as a fellow hardcore fan of several shows and comic characters, try not to compare the new movie to the original TOO much. You could end up being so disappointed that it didnt live up, and you might be missing out on a good movie. I had the same problem with the Xmen movies. I expected so much from the first two, and they fell far short of that on first viewing. I went back later to watch them with a friend who hadnt seen it, and I started to notice that even though it wasnt what I thought it should be, it was good (especially X2)
I have my doubts that JJ will keep to what has already been done. I also wonder sometimes if people of this generation would be ever be able to appreciate anything from that era. I myself am young (25) but old enough to be disappointed with the apparent lack of respect kids seem to have with the classics.
I guess my point is that I have high hopes that this movie will be enjoyable for fans of my generation, and fans of yours. Hope you enjoy the movie!

Andy says:

I can’t WAIT for this movie!!! As for complaining that the characters look too young, look at the characters in TOS. Not exactly a bunch of geezers there! Since this is supposed to be BEFORE TOS, it would make since they look younger.

The only thing I am NOT crazy about is the bridge. But it’s hard to make up my mind from just one still photo.

Urban seems to have been born to play Dr. McCoy!!

790 says:

@Deadpool,,, like your style btw…
8-)
^
Yeeah weell they do look too young Andy !!!!! (Aunt Bee voice) … ;-)

Hopefully the story (is so kick aas) it allows us to overlook that…

The Enterprise Bridge looks (lets get real, cause I’m keeping it real) like an extravagant piece of Ipod / Iphone crap,,,!!!
I only hope that, that’s the Enterprise bridge, that gets destroyed on Cap Pikes Ship…

(Where’s the trippy colors man?)

Btw its pretty obvious that were gonna see how Captain Pike gets Fd_up in this film,,,
Poor Nowhere Man…
Get ready to blink one for Yes, and 2 for No… :-(

PhotoShopLifter Dan says:

Jon said, “What’s with the dual barcode scanners at in the bridge pic…Those look like Metrologic barcode scanners. Is that the Starbucks register to pay for their espresso or decaf?”

Maybe Metrosexuals go Manic for Metrologic scanners with their MochaWhateverTheFudgeYouCallIt?

Mark said, “Im not sure about the reception desk on the bridge however!”

How else will Kirk keep track of which babe he “makes First Contact with” at different times?

790 said, “@Dave, right behind the main Viewscreen,,, wow that means a direct hit to the forward bridge could get very ugly if shields are down”

Not as ugly as if Kirk gets a bad case of the Hershey Squirts…”(*BRA-A-A-A-AP!*) Oh, GodOGodOGodOGodOGodOGodOGodOGodOGod! SPOCK! BONES! Who forgot to reload the toilet paper dispenser?”

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

790, I don’t know if we will see Pike get exposed to delta rays in this one because Spock had been with Kirk for a while before he committed mutiny trying to get Pike to the Talos planet.

I’m also a huge Trek fan but I see nothing wrong with the bridge. We all know that this is a re-imagining of the Trek universe, so we’ll see alot of SGI that is vastly superior to the 1966-69 show, or even the TOS movies. I feel the bright colors are refreshing and look a lot like the experimental ship the Doctor was transported to in Voyager.

My favorite character out of all the Trek universe has to be the legendary Spock. I love them all but Spock reigns supreme.

That picture with Quinto and Pine needs to be outlawed. Or better yet, just throw it into a warp core. :-)

Um, can we get off the bathroom humor thing? I mean, seriously…

Vic

790 says:

Kahless,,, I’m assuming the writers overlooked the timeline/canon and are going to include Pikes demise anyway.
8-) 8-) 8-)

Rob Keyes says:

I read that for the bridge – JJ was very strict about every piece of equipment, tech or screen on the bridge had a legitimate purpose of being there.

So although, what we see looks drastically different from the original show, that makes me feel kinda good about it.

790 says:

But Rob I’ve seen “fan-made” film productions of TOS Bridge that look better than this !!!
Wtf,,,, They stick to the uniforms but transport the cool look of the bridge out into space,,,
This attention to detail is way too Admiral Ackbar’s ship/Starbucks looking,,,

(I’m not impressed)

Arrrhhhhhhh. :-)

Ken J says:

I still like how the female has to be wearing a short skirt and high boots. I guess sexism is alive and well in the future but currency is not, lol. :-D

the old man says:

I know this won’t change anybodies opinion about the bridge. I’m of the same opinion as the majority. Just as an observation..

The lighter colors would indicate a female influence. The reason I say this is because every woman in my family wants everything light in color. It also makes sense if you want to make the space look bigger, and from this picture the bridge looks small, compared to the original TOS bridge. It looks like the walls are anchored rather than movable. That limits camera angles and setups. I believe that’s Uhura standing at the communications console with the Metrologic scanners. I first saw this picture somewhere else, and the camera angle/photo was just a little further to the left, which made it look like the comm-station was out parallel with the Captains chair. The first thing I thought is, the first torpedo hit, and Uhura is going to become a trip hazard. However I see it’s not quite parallel but inset. I think that’s the turbo lift door to the right of her behind the slab of transparent aluminum (sic). Colors hearken back to STMPs’ bridge only lit brighter. Free standing console, transparent barriers, and color palette give it the “Star Wars” episode 6 look.

790 says:

Good points, Old Man,,,

Damn it,,,,

Jae Senn says:

Ken,

I think it’s great that they’re bringing back those miniskirts for the female uniforms of the future, just like in the original Trek series. That’s pretty cool, don’t you think? At least we can have comfort in knowing that the future fashion trend aren’t burqas and long beards.

Ken J says:

Lol, that would be a bit disturbing, especially on the females… :-D

Paul Collins says:

Kirk and Spock look way too effeminate. We all must realize that Shatner was a unique actor for his time. He did Shakespear, Stratford, and all kinds of live productions before Star Trek ever came a along. I think this will make a great TV movie. So the maker of Lost is a genius for creating another show, I would never see. It makes money, therefor, he should be trusted with Star Trek for this generation of viewers. Come on! Has anyone here heard the term: “So what’s new?” If this is new, then there are way too many MBAers and lawyers holding back “new” ideas and fresh blood. There is something terribly wrong when they keep repeating a series. Look at the Simpsons, it should have been cancelled years ago. Only stupid people watch this show. I guess they are turning the movie screens for stupid people only too. Come on! So what’s really new, people!

Deadpool says:

Respectfully I have to disagree with your opinion Paul. Why does everything have to be new to be good? The Simpsons is still on tv because the writers keep it fresh and meaningful to the times. Isnt it kind of harsh to call fans of the Simpsons stupid people?

Just because you like things to be new, doesnt mean you have the right to insult people who watch tv and movies that they have come to love over the years. Lets keep it civil, people!

PhotoShopLifter Dan says:

I agree with Deadpool…”New” does not always equal “Better”.

A stellar example of this?

2 words: “New Coke”

Ken J says:

Wait, did someone just insult The Simpsons????

the old man says:

STSC (Star Trek Spin Control) says:
The picture on the cover of EW are the “Game faces” for the characters. ;-)

SNS says:

Maybe im being too picky, but I REALLY cant stand the look of that bridge. Its just unrealistic for what they would have had at the time.

Albram is trying to mix the ipod era/design into an era between ENTERPISE and TOS and it makes no sense.

Whats with the transparent wall columns? Whats with his black uniform? Its too white and shiny and plastic and ultrarealitic.

Has Albram watched any ST in his life?

Daniel Kirk says:

I’m so far very disappointed and dismayed — this looks more like a TNG prequel than anything, with the original characters tacked on just to pull butts into theater seats.
