Let's forget about Star Trek 3 possibly releasing in 2016, the 50th anniversary of the franchise, and who make takeover to direct while Abrams producers, and instead enjoy the most revealing look Into Darkness yet.
The first full Star Trek Into Darkness trailer, gloomy and awe-inspiring, teased the much desired return of the Enterprise crew and threw them into a series of intense, emotional albeit disconnected action-packed sequences. Much of the scenic destruction and chaos depicted seemed to be caused by a new, intimidating and powerful villain who we later learned was named John Harrison. Later, the Super Bowl trailer showcased a little more of the USS Enterprise, falling apart, while the mysterious Harrison claimed that he's better at "everything" than Kirk.
With the international trailer, we now see clearly what John Harrison did and why Kirk leads the charge against him. Harrison is a Starfleet officer who betrays them for reasons we do not yet know. Unlike Nero from this film's predecessor, Harrison is a villain Abrams says audiences can feel for and understand, so expect twists and turns and story much more than a simple tale of revenge.
The second one-minute teaser last week, presented young Captain Kirk getting disciplined by Admiral Pike, inter-spliced with a Star Wars-esque chase sequence. For long-time fans, seeing and hearing Kirk take command of his crew and the Enterprise was refreshing to see after all the marketing thus far has been unsurprisingly dominated by Cumberbatch's voice and presence. Now we see them face-to-face, and their confrontations put into context.
UPDATE: Did you notice this sexy shot of Alice Eve in the trailer (we're fairly sure you did):
Well, that little "glamor shot" was actually a clever diversion! In the background of the image there is a URL that unlocked a new Star Trek Into Darkness poster!
