‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ International Trailer Gets Personal [Updated With Images & Poster]

While recent buzz surrounding Star Trek Into Darkness has shifted slightly towards the future in light of news that director J.J. Abrams will shockingly, yet fittingly direct Star Wars Episode VII, the latest teaser trailer and full international trailer are re-focusing fans on Screen Rant’s most anticipated film of the year.

Let’s forget about Star Trek 3 possibly releasing in 2016, the 50th anniversary of the franchise, and who make takeover to direct while Abrams producers, and instead enjoy the most revealing look Into Darkness yet.

The first full Star Trek Into Darkness trailer, gloomy and awe-inspiring, teased the much desired return of the Enterprise crew and threw them into a series of intense, emotional albeit disconnected action-packed sequences. Much of the scenic destruction and chaos depicted seemed to be caused by a new, intimidating and powerful villain who we later learned was named John Harrison. Later, the Super Bowl trailer showcased a little more of the USS Enterprise, falling apart, while the mysterious Harrison claimed that he’s better at “everything” than Kirk.

With the international trailer, we now see clearly what John Harrison did and why Kirk leads the charge against him. Harrison is a Starfleet officer who betrays them for reasons we do not yet know. Unlike Nero from this film’s predecessor, Harrison is a villain Abrams says audiences can feel for and understand, so expect twists and turns and story much more than a simple tale of revenge.

The second one-minute teaser last week, presented young Captain Kirk getting disciplined by Admiral Pike, inter-spliced with a Star Wars-esque chase sequence. For long-time fans, seeing and hearing Kirk take command of his crew and the Enterprise was refreshing to see after all the marketing thus far has been unsurprisingly dominated by Cumberbatch’s voice and presence. Now we see them face-to-face, and their confrontations put into context.

UPDATE: Did you notice this sexy shot of Alice Eve in the trailer (we’re fairly sure you did):

  1. I haven’t seen any new trailers for this movie only because the teaser was enough. I don’t want to ruin the suspense of this film.

  2. I agree, Cumberbatch is probably better at everything. Also, Alice Eve at 1:36

    • 1:36 was cheap, but appreciated.

    • Alice Eve would make a fantastic Susan Storm!!!

  3. Looks great, needs more lense flare tho

    • Agreed.

    • @Mcshea

Can never have too much lens flare… This just doesn’t seem right, being so… lens flareless…

  4. Wow, sick.

    I can’t wait for May!

    • Also, Alice Eve is hot. That is all.

      • Super hot :)

  5. can’t wait!!!

  6. Welcome to the Rock!

  7. Best trailer yet!

  8. right…. this has been bugging me since the first glimpse of the bad guy. does he have powers? also does he command an army or some s***?

    • Considering he was beamed off the craft he was using to attack the Starfleet Officers, I would think he has help.

Redshirts who were in the sick bay with McCoy and Marcus was behind them, and letting both work on him.

He is referenced to as an Agent.

I am thinking that he is stronger due to perhaps being on a planet with a heavier gravity or using weapons that were made in a lesser gravity. Which would explain his ability to jump from a great height and still be able to knock Spock down.

The fact, he knew where Starfleet was meeting, and had a craft that got pass the defenses.

I do not know if it is the same, but when Uhura said they were outnumbered.

      • thats the part that has me thinking he has an army. could be leader if the klingons or somthing?

      • John might be a Capellan. This explains why he is so aggressive and bcuz of the timeline change, maybe the Klingons took over their world.

  9. :D Seems awesome.

Just one thing that kinda reminded me of the Avengers.

The scene where the red uniforms are escorting Benedict through the corridors with guns. xD

    • I couldn’t help but hear “You were made to be ruled” in Loki’s voice at the beginning of the trailer.

  10. Star Trek 2, Pacific Rim, Fast 6, Wolverine, Iron Man 3 & Thor 2 are going to damage in ’13 and I’m a little upset that there isn’t much buzz for Pacific Rim.

  11. “Starfleet is not about vendetta, Kirk.”
    “Maybe it should be”

    HECK YES!!! :-D

  12. Ashley Eve is smokin!

    • ^This guy wins.

  13. I guess Alice Eve worked out during filming.

    • @Exverlober

LOL, yah, she is ripped! :-D

  14. Did they forget to put shield generators on the enterprise…Or will they be installed on Tuesday?

I mean for 2 movies, this Enterprise has taken a whupping and a half.

    • “Let me guess, Tuesday?”

  15. Hmm, the one scene of McCoy, Marcus and Harrison with the red shirt behind them.

I think some of the Red Shirts work for Harrison.

  16. It looks like Peter Weller is doing his 2nd bit of Trek after the episode of Enterprise he did as a dis-affected human with anti-alien affiliations…

  17. This trailer might of gave to much away. I have a feeling that everyone will think John Harrison is a villain at 1st but toward the end, they notices he’s a good guy and then help him out.

    My guess:

Klingons destroyed his world and Earth is now next. John Harrison comes to warn us but is mistaken as the enemy enforcing threats. Later they join him in fighting the Klingons.

    • Telling them he will walk over their cold dead corpses should give them a clue that he is just a little misunderstood.

      • Over who’s corpses?

  18. I can’t wait to see this. This is the 2nd time in my life I’ve ever been so excited about a movie.

  19. My reaction to this photo:

    • @SIN

They need to get that checked out…THAT CANNOT BE HEALTHY!

    • @sin

      Oldie but a goodie, lol.

I love how further into the song it goes, the easier it is for it to happen, lol.

      • Haha, it’s a classic! Right up there with that Whitney Houston song about how that bodyguard dude.

        • … SR needs an edit button because that “how” isn’t supposed to be there.

  20. I don’t believe for a second that Cumberbatch’s character is called ‘John Harrison’ and I’m actually more inclined to believe that he is indeed Gary Mitchell. In every interview I’ve read, Abrams and the producers have talked about keeping as much of the plot under wraps as possible until the film releases. It therefore doesn’t make sense that they would go and name Cumberbatch’s character like that and I believe they were simply trying to divert attention away from the fact that Karl Urban himself name-dropped ‘Gary Mitchell’ in an interview. So far their tactic has worked, as everyone seems to automatically refer to Cumberbatch as ‘John Harrison’ in writing (see Screen Rant’s own articles of late) and the ‘Gary Mitchell’ rumours have died down. I admit that Cumberbatch could be playing the character of ‘Gary Mitchell’ with a different name, but that wouldn’t really make sense what with all the other originally-named characters. The fact that this trailer states that Cumberbatch’s character is an ex-Starfleet agent (not to mention his god-like tone/words and apparent ‘super powers’) only adds more truth to the ‘Gary Mitchel’ theory.

    • If it were Gary Mitchell Kirk would already know who he is. Plus Gary Mitchell has already appeared in recent comics set before into darkness.

    • John Harrison may have just come in contact with the same cloud that Gary did.

I don’t think so though, this trailer left a lot of nuggets that Star Fleet leaders did something really bad, covered it up and Harrison is on a crusade to kill everyone responsible.

Of course in the end, it will be Kirk vs Weller vs Harrison

  21. Anyone else think the Alice Eve character always looks malicious? She seems like she’s actually in league or being controlled by Cumberbatch..

  22. I only ask for one thing from this movie. Please, do not include a plot twist where we discover Mr Harrison wanted to be captured as it was part of his plan.

    • I think you might be disappointed on that score, EVERYONE knows that when a baddie is caught it was all part of the plan.

Never take prisoners just but a phaser bolt between their eyes, saves a lot of hassle and makes movies shorter, if I was a Bond villian it wouldn’t get to the 2nd reel lol

  23. Does anyone else wonder why they are on earth again? I thought Starfleet’s mission was to explore the ‘unknown.’

  24. There are actually links throughout the trailer that link to the poster in different languages.

Great trailer, completely takes things up a few notches.

  25. Thumbnail is great

But nothing special. Alice Eve was already nude in Crossing Over”

  26. Must say, Spock is coming across like even more of a homosexual in this movie.

    • Well Zachary Quinto did come out just the other day, but maybe because of that you are viewing him differently?!

    • As someone who is not a huge supporter of gay marriage, don’t oppose it ether. I can say Honestly say that I have seen nothing in is acting to this point that isn’t one hundred % professional and I have seen zero effect that his personal life style has effected his acting.

      Hats off to Zac.

      • Hey Motoko and Alex

The irony of both your responses is that I had no idea he was gay in real life, my statement was purely based off his look and the way he carries himself, just has a very camp look and nature about him.

The fact that he IS ACTUALLY gay makes me feel a tad bit sexist now as we all know a joke between friends is funny, but humour can be viewed as slander when humour is based on truth.

Another part of me is thinking, ‘it all makes sense now’ LOL.

I will not deny he has been nothing but professional in his acting, but I just get the feminine vibe of him, even in the first one when he took charge. Hmmm.

        • @kc

Uh, sexist doesn’t exactly apply since you did not discriminate against him for his sex. Sex is whether he has male or female genitalia, not a person’s sexual preference. I think the correct word for you is bigot…

And slander is a spoken untruth about someone, such as if you are a news reporter and you report or you spread the word that someone is stealing money when you actually have no evidence of it and know it isn’t true… I think you meant that it can be viewed as offensive… Sorry to be such a grammar nazi, but you’re really just misusing a whole bunch of words in one comment… :-D

          • Thanks for the grammar lesson, see me after class, I have some red jelly beans I know you’ll love.

As for grammar, stop using 3 dots at the end of your sentences. If you have made your point, which you have, use a full stop. If you’re aggressively passionate use an exclamation mark. By all means, feel free to quote me in the future, at which time I’ll allow you to use three dots :).

Hmm I’m keeping these jelly beans for myself now… *wink*

            • @kc

Wow, you really told me… /sarcasm

Seriously, I wasn’t trying to be offensive, eh hem, “slanderous.” I just figured since you seemed like you wanted to use those words, that maybe you actually would want to know what they meant, or what their correct usage should be. I mean, if you want to get all butt-hurt when someone points out the errors and just keep misusing them instead of simply learning from your mistakes, be my guest. Forget I said anything………. :-)

              • I have no problem being corrected, if I am wrong I’m more than happy to be corrected.

You came across very smug in the way you formulated your reply, that’s why I bit back, which is why you felt the need to bite back with ‘sarcasm’. Neither of us win.

Lets just forget each other. We highjacked a thread pointing out that both of us have bad grammar, what a fantastic few hours! Here’s a beer in person. Cheers.

                • Punctuation marks always go inside quotations, never outsi… errr… nevermind… :-P

                  • Let it go. You’re boring.

                    • Damn, now that you said it, it must be true… *hangs head in shame*

                    • (btw, I’ve left you an opening here, and even a BIG clue. Let’s see if you can catch it…) Don’t be so serious. :-)

        • LOL, thats pretty funny if you didn’t know it before hand.

          • @ Alex, I know. Ironic isn’t it.

  27. Great trailer!

The poster is alright (looks a little too photo shopped) but it’s definately more “Star Trekish” than the teaser poster.

  28. IS this too little too late. the iron man 3 helicopter scene, the avengers refernences is like marvel in space.

    • I did not see a single thing in the Avengers that was original. Was it a great movie yes, original I don’t think so.

  29. Wow! Simply wow!

    This looks awesome!
