Continuing in the proud(?) tradition of previews of previews, MTV has debuted an exclusive preview of the final Star Trek Into Darkness trailer, which will premiere in its entirety tomorrow.

[UPDATE: The Official Trailer is Now Here!]

The trailer includes a lot of the familiar shots we’ve seen from previous Into Darkness trailers and images – including scenes of massive destruction to earth, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) shooting through space, and the menace of villain John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch). We also get a few glimpses of some new action sequences throughout the film, suggesting that J.J. Abrams’ sequel to his successful 2009 franchise reboot could indeed be a non-stop summer thrill ride.

  1. Not your fault but I wonder what goes through the mind of people who originally post a video to a movie highly anticipated around the world when the video cannot be seen by other countries outside of the U.S.

  2. It’s not available in the US any longer either.
MTV is probably responsible for the inexplicable act.

  3. It is still available , I just watched it!

  4. This isn’t a preview of a preview. It’s a first look at the TV Spot from the MTV Movie awards.

  5. “Star Trek: Into Darkness” is going to stink. There I said it.

Now, let us hope this will be a good movie.

    *fingers crossed*

    • It’s your opinion, and I should respect it, but you lack consistence. You seem to know it’s going to stink and yet your hoping its going to be a good movie? So what? There’s a possibility it’s not going to stink, even though you blatantly said it was without giving any indication that it wasn’t a predictability but a fact.

      • It can be soooo tempting to reply to random junk, but I woulda let that one go if I were you. Not the makings of a good conversation from what he said so far.

  6. Am I the only one who think it is odd we have previews for trailers.

    • +1 no you’re not. the new trend is to advertise previews as much as the film itself. an ad of an ad…

  7. I just have to say that, judging from the preview that I saw for Star Trek in the theater last week, I am disappointed. There is a shot of a spacecraft/vehicle of some sort pulling a move that is an obvious and blatant callback to the Millenium Falcon. Why in the world would they (a) decide to do that shot, and (b) decide to promote it, when there is already uneasiness over Star Trek and Star Wars getting uncomfortably close as franchises?

I have been trying to feel ok about J.J. Abrams, but honestly, I am not ok with him having been given the reigns to Trek and Wars. Yes, the current state of things is better than George Lucas controlling it all, but it is still a bit disturbing.

    • Thanks for that statement. I like both franchises but I want them to stay light years apart.

      • Star Wars died long ago.

Star Trek has only recently started to be “hip”.

  8. Alice Eve’s breasteses looks amazing.

bring on more of her breateses. now

    • Then you’d love the film Crossing Over with Harrison Ford. It’s about immigrants.

  9. “The only family Kirk has left: his crew”

So, is his mom dead then? They never really said in the first movie.

    • Great question. Specifically, does Kirk have any family left at the start of this film, such as his mother or oddly absent brother? Furthermore, if we are to loosen the definition of family a bit, Captain Pike took on a fatherly role towards Kirk and in fact literally did the things for him that original Kirk’s father had done. He guided him, drove him to greatness, and encouraged his Starflleet career, living to see him captain the flagship. Killing off Pike would fit into the theme here very well, but the question remains: will any crew members die? I don’t think they will be bold enough to rekill Spock in another Trek 2, but who knows?

Also, since it is hard to believe anyone would try so hard to imply the villains identity is Khan and then have it not be, the whole issue of “wrath” arises. He sure looks pissed in the film, but last time Khan was a villain he had a deeply personal hatred of Kirk and company. Now, unless the start of the movie changes something huge, we have a guy who has never even met him and has nothing specific to avenge there. An interesting twist is if the film was flipped a bit, and the subtitle could almost be “The Wrath of Kirk”. He looses his family to (Khan), and now he wants “justice.”. The great personal injury comes from Khan instead of Kirk, and gets “righted” by the crew.

Furthermore, if they are really thinking ahead and behind, Kirk should meet Carol as a result of his mischievous Irish friend, begin to love her, and then have her die. This way the story suits new people just as is, but treats the fans with the knowledge that he will never have his son David in this life. This level of meticulous fan service is more than I expect, but not more than we deserve.

Finally, the odds of a major refit for the ship or it’s total destruction seem likely. To have the anticipation of a new or refurbished ship in the next film is a way to build some continuity and sense of era, not to mention excite the fans and sell some toys and posters and such.

      • Yeah, I think it’s safe to say Mr Cummerbatch will open a can of whoop arse on the Enterprise.

        Harrison: ‘I am better’
        Kirk: ‘At what?
        Harrison: ‘Everything’
        Kirk: ‘Prove it!’
Harrison: ‘Mine is bigger than yours’

        • Plus that not only sounds like something true of Khan, but something he would (and essentially did), say. Another sign that either it’s him or they have tried WAY too hard to imply that it is. I wonder also how sure anyone is that his powerful like the Q somehow… Is it really just a whim when he pulls ships into the ground? Is there nothing to it but Force-style magic? Haven’t put that part together yet.

  10. I enjoyed the 2009 film and appreciate that this is now a new set direction, but from the trailer it doesn’t seem very ‘Star Trek’ at all in terms of the exploration and space travel.

Still it looks very exciting and it looks as it a lot will be relied on Cumberbatch’s presence as the villain.

    • Yeah I agree. I’m still hella excited to see it but it doesn’t look very “Star Trek” like space travel or aliens for that matter! Hope the actual movie isn’t as “Earthbound” as these trailers are making it seem. The only part not on Earth is the part on that red planet with Kirk and Bones running from those jungle aliens. But we haven’t seen that much footage so hopefully there is more of the movie in space and on other planets.

      • *The only part not on Earth *THAT we’ve seen* is the part on the red jungle planet.

        • I fully expect to see almost no more of the red plant planet. Maybe a minute or two as the ship surfaces and swings down to save Spock. (because what else would happen?). But it felt paper thin for a reason I think: it IS pap thin. But the earthbound stuff in the previews doesn’t imply a movie set in San Francisco, it just implies that we aren’t being shown much yet I think. I expect space battles, for sure, and at least another planet or two, including New Vulcan, which I really hope has a better name than that…

We know that Klingons are in the story, and we may get to see some ships or Kronos itself if we are lucky. It may even be the site of the other non-earth scene you forgot, the one with the winged ship chase… Furthermore, while Ceti Alpha Five wont be likely to make any appearance, the companion video game is full of Gorn. We have never seen their home world, and they MAY be in the film. It takes a lot of money to make them look good, which is why Enterprise’s imposing depiction was brief and shadowy, (but really cool.)

The days of considering a “Starfleet Academy” film are over, and an earthbound film is out of the question. Don’t worry! (About that one particular concern…)

          • If you’ve seen the 9 minute extended preview then you know the beginning of the movie takes place on the red planet.

            • And yet that appears to be a very brief, rushed visit that I expect will end right after they get Spock. So we have the volcano and the underwater shot, and the bridge, but as far as an alien planet goes we basically just have the two guys running for a couple seconds from some natives. Since water and volcanoes are far from alien in look or nature, this isn’t much of a planetary visit. It seems more like the last three minutes of another story, to imply that the adventures continued since the last time we saw them. Maybe they go straight from there to Earth for an extended block, cut to Khan, return to Earth, them chase him down? Well they have to cram in some more than that, and it is great to know we can expect a ship to ship conflict, without which I’d be really disappointed. It’s a movie after all.

  11. I am definately looking forward to this film. The thing that I’m most intrested in (Other than the plot) is the identity of the villain, who I’m beginning to believe is Khan(my guess is Abrams and Co. are pulling a “John Blake” with respect to his identity). It’d be interesting if it were Khan, especially the idea of him infiltrating starfleet as John Harrison. My question is given that Spock Prime was came into this film’s timeline, wouldn’t he mention anything to the crew of the Enterprise about Khan or the Botany Bay in case they ever ran into him? I’m also wondering(If it indeed Khan) if the film will mention “The Eugenics Wars” (Which I believe occured in this film’s timeline as well as that of The Original Series).

    Mr. Glass

    • I think the timelines were the same until Nero and Spock Prime entered the alternate universe.

My guess that if the villain is Khan,Spock Prime may have told Starfleet about the Botany Bay and asked that the ‘super people’ be somehow assimilated into Federation society. Khan may have used the Harrison alias to infiltrate Starfleet.

This is just a guess on my part. I actually don’t think Khan even in this film.

    • To quote Spock Prime.

“I could not deprive you of the revelation, of all that you will accomplish together of a friendship, that will define you both.”

    • Eugenic Wars took place in the late 20th Century.

      • Jeff W,

I know that the Eugenic Wars took place in the late 20th Century (I should have clarified my post, but I was tired when I wrote it). What I was meaning is that I believe that somethings are constant in both timelines (The Original Series and The JJ Abrams reboot). Personally, I believe that the Eugenic Wars are one of thos constants. If Harrison is indeed Khan, then it wouldn’t make sense not to mention Botany Bay or EW as both are integral to his story. The problem is that if he is Khan, how could someone like that possibly make his way into Starfleet, and there not be any record of him? Khan (going by TOS) ruled a great portion of the planet during the late 20th Century, which led to the EW. There’s no way that Starfleet would just let him in, without obtaining some information on him.

    • Well, it is not Khan.

How would Khan get hold of a technologically advanced starship? The Crew ability of commanding and operating her.

Khan in all his wisdom is not a Military trained Ship Commander. He would be totally outclassed, out smarted. Khan cannot survive on Brute Strength alone and if Khan was truly all that much of a threat. He would never have been forced to leave Earth.

Point is. Khan would be outsmarted as he was in the Mutura Nebulae.

  12. It’s just another action movie that happens to have “Star Trek” in the title. Don’t blame Abrams, he does what he is told to do. Blame all the Harvard MBA types with their focus groups and pie charts.

  13. I keep forgetting about this movie despite how much I wanna see it. Man of steel and iron man have taken over my movie mind. Haha but thi looks fantastic. Can’t wait to see it!

Also those posters are awesome! Love the Zoe Saldana one and the enterprise falling one. Awesome.

  14. Is there another version somewhere? Because I refuse to download QuickTime.

    • Give it ten minutes and someone will have it on YouTube.

    • Try Star Trek on Facebook.

    • @The Avenger here’s a link on youtube

    • Added the YouTube version. Will update accordingly.

      • @vladiator and @Kofi thanks guys! Trailer looks epic!

  15. So, its the Mirror Universe?

Well, this pretty much elminates Khan from discussion, because this ship is of like federation design, but far more menacing and quite frankly

    I LIKE IT!

  16. I was a little underwhelmed with the emphasis on drama. I’m totally going to see it, don’t get me wrong. I hope the powers that be know what they’re doing with the marketing.

  17. Looks like a modified Galaxy Glass.

    • Looks like what an Enterprise would be like if it were part of the Terran Empire.

ISS Enterprise D was more built for combat, and was more of a gunmetal in color, which this ships seems like.

      • I think if you look closely the design of harrison’s ship is much closer to that of the enterprise C not the more commonly know galaxy class d

  18. Epic New Trailer!! So, it’s not Khan, it’s not Mitchell, it is John Harrison.

  19. I can’t wait for this one. I loved the first one.

  20. Sinking feeling.

Like the first Star Trek, it takes place over a set number of years, or months.

Act 1 Harrison and Company attack.
Act 2 Kirk and Enterprise meet the Ship from Hell
Act 3 Kirk Mulls his actions, the people lost.
Act 4 over the course of a few months to a year. Enterprise undergoes massive reconstruction…underwater.

Hence Scotty saying the ship is dead, and kirk responds no shes not.

They hide the Enterprise Rebuild underwater as harrison and company do not know her whereabouts.

    • Check my comment below.

  21. SO thats the ship that crashes into earth, not the Enterprise that crashes into Alcatraz.

    • Certainly looks that way, Jeff, judging by the tapered profile of the saucer section and the shape of the nacelles. Incidentally, if the current Enterprise really is the size of a Galaxy Class ship (and I realise that’s still up for debate), then that thing is HUGE.

      • @Big Dentist.

That ship is what we called in my neighborhood.

        A Beast.

        • Coincidentaly, that’s exactly how I called Nero’s ship in the first rebooted star trek… And one of my downstairs neighboor (too easy a joke?) ;b

    • No, if you’ve looked at the other trailers theyve clearly shown NCC1701 on the ship that crashes. Its definitely the enterprise

      • The only shot including that registry is of the Enterprise coming out of the water. The crash is from a different sequence altogether.

  22. i really do still hope the film has a comedy element as there was in the first one, but so far looking good with all the action just hope they havent gone to dark

  23. SPOILERS! :-(

  24. SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TREY!

    CURSE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. I apologize. Good thing is.. all that was, was a small portion of the first nine minutes. I know not everyone has seen the extended preview, but thought maybe everyone had heard about it!

    • What if..John Harrison.

Mirror Universe’s Version of James T Kirk? Think about it, Terran Empire invades federation space, and plant Kirk in as John Harrison. Hence the reason, he seems to know all of kirks move.

      • Honestly Jeff, I was thinking the same thing (in a way). I think Benedict might actually be Evil Kirk.

      • @Jeff, Doesn’t Kirk’s mirror version of a goatee? or was that only Spock?

        • @Guardian Outlaw

          • dang new computer
            @Guardian Outlaw

            It was Spock.

            • @Jeff, Ight lol I was prob thinking about the South Park episode where every evil version had the goatee.

Harrison could be an Evil Metron from the Mirrorverse.

      • SMACK!!!!

Over here in blighty we have a little mag called SFX (not sure if it’s available in the US of A) and they’ve got an interview with Cumberbatch.

Now he don’t give away any details about WHO his character is but he does talk about his motivations.

He’s officially classed as a terrorist by the federation but he (Harrison) feels he is justified in the actions and path he is taking.

I think the quote is something like “what he’s fighting for is much smaller than what he’s fighting against” (i.e the Federation)

        check it out http://www.sfx.co.uk/2013/04/15/exclusive-benedict-cumberbatch-star-trek-into-darkness-interview-2/

We all seem to forget the scene in one of the earlier trailer with the family at the hospital that Harrison goes to see, could be a whole lot smaller and personal then we’re giving consideration too

    • It’s a fine line I know – I’ve only recently made the decision to avoid anything more about Iron Man 3. No worries, mate!

    • Its no biggie.

I can wait in line for snacks now.

  26. Wow! Looks great. I loved the first new one? lol. I didn’t really watch Star Trek the show or movies growing up but the revamp of the franchise has be hooked. I may even go back and watch the original films with fellow Canadian Billy Shatner.

  27. Why is are new Sci fi movies so humorless – even blade runner had more wit than any of these super serious, characterless “sci fi” films that are coming out. They are more like war movies than sci fi & I hate it.

  28. This comes from years of being highly observant.

But if you notice the wounds on kirks face, are not there when he turns and says sorry to the bridge crew.

When he is on the bridge and Sulu says another ships is coming in, you see the wounds.

So there might be a time lapse on what happens to the enterprise and what happens at the end, I think he is saying sorry for what had occurred, not what is about to happen.

Seems the enterprise was damage badly and then rapidly reparied. Considering she took damage in the first movie, and was pristine at the end. It is possible Starfleet used all available resources to repair the enterprise.

  29. Interesting theory going around that Cumberbach is Wesley Crusher. He’s even wearing a grey uniform like good ol Wes did. Maybe his exploits with the Traveler have brought him to the distant past….
