Continuing in the proud(?) tradition of previews of previews, MTV has debuted an exclusive preview of the final Star Trek Into Darkness trailer, which will premiere in its entirety tomorrow.

[UPDATE: The Official Trailer is Now Here!]

The trailer includes a lot of the familiar shots we’ve seen from previous Into Darkness trailers and images – including scenes of massive destruction to earth, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) shooting through space, and the menace of villain John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch). We also get a few glimpses of some new action sequences throughout the film, suggesting that J.J. Abrams’ sequel to his successful 2009 franchise reboot could indeed be a non-stop summer thrill ride.

  1. Why isn’t anyone talking about the stasis pods? And is it just me or is the size comparison between this Enterprise and the larger ship(are those rail guns?)in this trailer comparable to the size difference between the Enterprise and Exlcelsior in Star Trek III?

    • Those are more like coffins than Stasis Pods

Excelsior was only 200 meters longer than the Enterprise. This ship is almost twice as big.

  2. Buckaroo Bonsai said last year he has his own ship and this is it, His top agent “John Harrison” works for him and may switch side after kirk and party hunt him down. Also maybe make peace with the klingons I hope.
Any who – poor enterprise is no match!
They said the fallout from nero caused a major political crisis in the federation and fear from section 31 came up with this monster to settle the score, but they hurt the wrong people and the Admirals daughter will turn against her father and save the day with her brain power.
As for the tubes, they will be more of an impact in the next movie and Kahn will rise!
I think the sceen showing his cryo open will be at the end of the movie and John harrison will die a hero!

  3. Is it just me, or does the cast of this new Star Trek do a lot of running and jumping, and falling from great distances? Also, I could probably do without seeing the new Uhura spin her head around dramatically over and over again. She has a beautiful neck, but c’mon. The girl is going to fracture something, eventually.

I got smart and watched this trailer SANS volume. Maybe Cumberbach is playing……Cumberbach. He looks ticked off in ever scene, so maybe he has a contract problem. I’m beginning to hope that he turns out to be exactly NONE of the characters everyone is wildly speculating about, just so people learn the futility of idiotically speculating, and getting other people’s hopes up. Oh, I forgot. Gots to hype this up to get people’s butts in the seats. Sorry.

    • That’s funny, because as a fan of the shows, when I think of my favorite parts there are rarely any weapons or special effects. We all love the ships and the action, but the way the films rely so heavily on being bigger and flashier than ever before can be less than inspiring. I expect a great show, but I hope that there are some quiet scenes of great dialogue in between all that exhausting exertion!

Also, if it isn’t Khan then the many many signs that it clearly IS him will have been created as a distraction. Do you want them to imply him strongly, only to surprise you? Other than how annoying it would be to find that they had built the very structure of the film around confusing fanboys, I would agree that a surprise would be nice. But under the circumstances it would be absurd at this point for it not to be Khan, so I will be mad if it isn’t. I’m not too worried though…

      • maybe it’s Son of Khan???

        • Not utterly impossible. That’s what my mom said! We don’t know if he had kids, or why he’d leave a son behind, but if we are searching for a reason for him to be wrathful, or use the line ” my beloved wife”, then who knows?

  4. Through The Looking Glass Darkly?

  5. Man that other ship is HUGE, looks bigger than the Enterprise E. It’s deffinately influenced by StarFleet design ethic but scaled up significantly.

So question, built by Starfleet as a special ship for Harrison or build by Harrison using knowledge of the fleet and it’s capabilities and significantly outclassing them.

Either way as we;ve seen in countless trailers poor old NCC-1701 is gonna get battered.

Still plenty of letters left in the alphabet……

  6. there are frames of Captain Kirk in reverse on the trailer

  7. Looks very good! Will have my butt in a theatre on 5/15.

Minor quibble: is anyone bothered with Cumberbatch over enunciating his lines? It’s as if he’s really trying TOO hard.

  8. Just watched it again to pause a few things… You can see that the villain ship has big cutouts on the saucer section, diffentiating it from every Starfleet saucer before it. Funny, when the Wrath of Khan was made there were serious concerns about whether the audience could always tell which ship was the Reliant and which was the Enterprise. They were same era, same component (mostly), similar looking ships, and as always the intent was that a new-to-trek person would get the whole story clearly. As a longtime fan it’s hard to imagine jumbling those configurations of nacelles and saucers, but I can see that others may be less versed. In fact, the final blueprint design of the reliant was signed off on….upside down, indicating that the person who green lit the final shape wasn’t even clear on the orientation. Incidentally though, that means he okayed an even more similar looking ship, as the way he saw it would have maintained the look of nacelles above the saucer like Kirk’s ship. THAT would have thrown a few people for sure!

  9. I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT.

John Harrison and the covert branch he works for. He is not from the Future, the ship is not from the future.

John Harrison attacks the klingons for a reason. Klingons orginally capture Nero and his crew and the Narada. The Narada still being a Romulan Vessel from the future, it is only logical (no pun intended) that it would have detail knowledge of Federation Ships of the future.

Remember, It was 129 years in the future, Nero came through first and was
Remember the Nero and the Narada came to the past in the time line, at the wrong time, before Kirk was born. They were captured by the Klingons and whatever happened to the Narada, the Klingons no doubt had the ship. Starfleet got wind of it. Harrison and company went to Quonos and found out where the ship was, they did not need to steal the Narada, just get her database, even a mining ship, she would still have the knowledge, plans and tactical scans of federation ships from the future and was here for 25 years, mostly being held captive by Klingons.

Why Harrison was attacking Klingons. He would have the following
    Specs, on Federation Ships
    Starfleet History
Every Famous Starfleet Captain and the entire History of Starfleet, from 129 years, it would take him into the Borg, the Founders, Jem;Hadar and every ship named Enterprise.

They just simply reverse engineered all the information and built that beast of a ship, with 23 century technology and equipment.

He would have all the codes and ability to access each and every Starfleet operations, offices, bases, everything about Starfleet. Including Starfleet History of Khan.

They had 25 years to build that secret and keep it hidden.

    • Hmmmm…..

      No.

That sounds like a part two, but this is a stand alone story. Unless you think a few quick sentences about info from the future constitutes all that you wrote, I think you are not zeroing in on the movie plot. Interesting though!

  10. On the subject of spoilers, (without giving any myself), I may have seen some accidental hints in a Lego clone advert. It shows mutiple little sets with names and species and costumes that indicate minor info I was not privy to. The ad came with my preorder ofthe game that tells a story set between the movies.

If anyone wants to read a trek fan’s review of the game, it will be up in a few days. You can click my name to see my blog. Clearly the game is not good enough to pay full price for, (suffice to say) but I haven’t finished it yet.

In the game are also some supposed connections to the film, but they aren’t intended to be overt or obvious. Combining the quasi-LEGO ad and the game content so far indicates some potentially weird references and extremely obvious thematic material. I will discuss with spoiler warnings in the review. One month left !

  11. the way he kicks spocks ass.. the way he says hes better at EVERYTHING.. suggests he is indeed Khan.. but i put it to you that being as this is a NEW dimension a divergent timeline.. he is a amalgam or different take on the character.. awoken on the botany bay khan realises he is in a new era &decides instead of fighting against or trying to rule he decides to put his many skills to use in AID of the federation.. on the condition they look after the ones that awoke with him..

whilst off on a mission some top brass beaurocratic/diplomatic messup causes either the incineration or sanction of the planet where his loved ones reside leading him on a trail of revenge against starfleet which simultaneously drags kirk into the mix when Pike is killed in the process

cue spock dying then part two leading to his resurrection &the birth of a new planet via Dr SexyAbs Genesis program on which spock claims as new vulcan for his near extinct ppl
