The final frontier hits close to home in January 2017. As part of a larger celebration of the Star Trek franchise (which turns 50 in 2016), Entertainment Cruise Productions is all set to launch the first ever Star Trek Cruise – giving Trekkies the chance to hobnob and rub elbows with likeminded individuals and stars from all across the series cannon, in a 6 day and 6 night voyage through the Caribbean and Bahamas.
Star Trek the Cruise has garnered much attention across the internet with its unique fan service and special attractions, including appearances by William Shatner, Jonathan Frakes, Denise Crosby, Robert Picardo, Marina Sirtis, and the recently confirmed Terry Farrell. The cruise is set to feature rooms redressed to mimic the appearance of 10-Forward, Club 602, and Quark’s Bar, and culminates in a party on a private Bahaman island called, for the night anyway, Risa.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that all rooms on this Star Trek-themed 2200 passenger voyage have been booked. All rooms, that is, except for one, which has been set aside in reserve for one, very special guest, who just might, in fact, be you. A new contest has been announced today, offering one lucky Trekkie the opportunity to boldly go where no fan has gone before for the low, low price of completely free.
Details on how to enter can be found HERE, but it’s as easy as entering your name into a drawing. The contest is sure to be highly popular among Star Trek fans, especially given how quickly tickets to climb aboard this maiden voyage sold out. Still, there’s no harm in trying, even if the odds are stacked heavily against you. The lucky winner will be announced October 1st, 2016, just three months before Star Trek the Cruise sets sail from Miami.
Star Trek the Cruise, in its own way, represents a chance to be a part of history. While themed cruises have become increasingly popular in recent years, this is the first time anyone has organized a Star Trek themed cruise, which combines all the fun and excitement of a Star Trek convention with all the luxury of a tropical cruise. There may be other, similarly themed events at some point in the future (given how quickly this cruise sold out), but that’s neither been confirmed nor even suggested by ECP at this point – so this may very well be your last opportunity to ever beam aboard. And even if there are future cruises, the bragging rights afforded by being one of the first are undeniable.
… But if this doesn’t sound like your bag, don’t worry: Star Trek Beyond is moving along on schedule to reach theaters in Summer 2016 and commemorate the Star Trek franchise’s longevity (hopefully, in style) on the big screen, too.
Star Trek Beyond opens in U.S. theaters on July 22nd, 2016. We’ll bring you more information on Star Trek the Cruise as it becomes available.
