Stan Lee is seemingly trying to get fans excited today with some of his recent tweets. We’ve long heard the talk, hints and speculation about future Marvel Studios projects outside of and post-Avengers. Some of these include the long-gestating Ant-Man solo film which has had Edgar Wright’s name on it for quite some time.

That’s not all though as we’ve also heard talk of movies including a Heroes for Hire project that could bring Iron Fist and Luke cage to the big screen, Black Panther, Dr. Strange and much much more. These are just the ones that we haven’t met yet as there’s always talks of spin-offs and sequels to the current set of films in development

Here are three tweets from Stan Lee today:

“To make up for my previous grievous error, here’s a little item that may have escaped you. Marvel is prepping a movie starring– Ant Man!”

“I had lunch with the cool , young director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) and, as you’d imagine, we had fun discussing the tiny hero”

“Ant Man is just one of the many wild treats Marvel has planned for you, such as Iron Fist, Dr. Strange, Black Panther and more, more, more!”

What he says isn’t exactly anything new but the fact that he says this just after meeting up with Edgar Wright makes it interesting. What’s also interesting is that Iron Man director Jon Favreau also met with Wright recently although Wright’s tweets indicate they didn’t talk about Ant-Man or The Avengers, but really, how could they not?

Let’s quickly review what we know of some of these projects so far:

Ant-Man

Marvel has seemingly had a clear interest in bringing Ant-Man into the limelight and there’s a a good chance in my mind that the character could be introduced in The Avengers since he is a significant character in the books. When Disney purchased Marvel Studios months back, rumors filled the internet with one coming down on Ant-Man stating that Pixar may develop the Ant-Man movie in their traditional 3D family-fun fashion. That was quickly shot down and if things stay on track, we should be seeing a live-action version from Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz). Ant-Man will likely come out 2012-2013, but don’t be surprised if he makes a big appearance in The Avengers.

Black Panther

As for the other characters, there’s been quite a bit of interest in bringing Black Panther to the silver screen as well. If they ever made an Avengers 2, characters like Black Panther need to be involved. Like all other Marvel films, there’s already been plenty of rumors and speculation about who could play the title character in this project including actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) who expressed his interest in the role.

Heroes for Hire

An Iron Fist movie has been been in development hell for nearly a decade, dating back to 2001 when Ray Park was supposed to play the title role for Artisan Entertainment. It didn’t work out and Marvel Studios got back the rights. According to Park who spoke about it last summer, he says that if they do go forward with an Iron Fist movie, he won’t be alone and it’ll be a partnership. He of course was referring to a Heroes for Hire movie co-starring Luke Cage. I would like to see that movie and I hope it can happen with Park involved. Park loves Danny Rand and I love Park’s passion.

Marvel’s Bright Future

Marvel Studios is still a baby and they only have Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk under their belt. Their current plan is to get back on track with two films per year and quickly turn that into four. With Disney now behind them and the impending success of Iron Man 2 (we can also expect big things from Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America), we may see a whole bunch of Marvel properties put on the fast-track to be developed into full live-action features.

  1. I get it, big appearance because he turns into giant man!

    O u.

  2. Ok, Rob, rubbing elbows with “The Man” huh? I knew it!!! Well seeing that you might have some pull. ;) Tell those guys to make Hank Pym's first exprement with real ants and then make artificial nano A.N.T.S(achrinym for something scientific) with real ant's A.I.. Hank should be able to make anyone of them a drone or Queen that can fly. Hank Pym should be Giant-Man in the Avengers movie and Janet Van Dyne should be able to become small but have a durable special electromagnetic suit that produces “energy” wings and her stinger blast. She should'nt have real wings coming out of her back. As far as Black Panther, make him like a Techno-Shaman a technological genius and shaman. He should also have “cyber-claws” that can cut through anything ,sort of like light sabers, and he should be able to use them as projectiles too and no Adewele,it's gotta be Djmon Hounsou as T'Challa or a new unknown actor. Adwele can be T'Chaka. As you've seen Rob I have good ideas man, I'm not looking for a job at Marvel, I'd just like to see some cool realist things come to life on film.

  3. i'm sorry, but i can't get with your ideas. In my opinion, they stray too far from the comic books

  4. if they're going to introduce ant-man in the avengers movie, they should do it like how green lantern was done in Justice League: the New Frontier. he has this immense power, and learns how to use it in the end, while saving everyone in the process

  5. i forgot to say that he's surrounded by “real” heroes as well.

  6. I'm not super familiar with the Avengers but the way they're going about it seems strange to me. Why not just include the characters who were the Avengers in the comics as the characters in the movies? Why are they “debating” whether to put in the Hulk or Ant Man? Is it really the Avengers if they just pick and choose? Please note this is just my opinion as someone who is not completely familiar with the material, but those are just my thoughts.

  7. Liam Neeson to play Dr. Strange, think about, he has the age, the calmness, the intimidation, he is perfect. And he can speak the proposed accent of Dr. Strange.

    • Liam would be good! But I’d prefer Daniel Day Lewis :-)

  8. I am very excited to hear that Iron Fist and Luke Cage is in the works for the big screen. i always thought they should bring Luke Cage to the big screen. Black Panther! nuff said! yeah, my man Adewale (T'Challa)would be perfect for the role. Dr. Strange should've been done that a long time ago. As a matter of fact they should've worked on that project before working on Ghost Rider. Pixar sounds like a good idea for Ant -Man i hope it works out.

  9. So Rob, where was the photo taken? I reckon that's pretty cool you got to meet Stan “The Man” Lee. I'm so jealous. :-)

  10. I could see that.

  11. Robert Downey Jr. would have made a great Dr. Strange, but obviously he's already taken another role.

  12. awesome. more marvel movies on the way (which is a lot more than can be said for DC). Im especially looking forward to Black Panther and Heroes for Hire.

  13. Christopher Judge should be the Black Panther. I'd see that in the theater.

  14. Ok, Mr.REEZY, having Hank Pym run and fly around using “real” ants is coll huh? Hmmm…How can we solve this problem,..How about a blowtorch. How much damage can real ants do to robots, machines, armored soldiers, hmmm not much but get annoying i guess or fun to just burn them with a GIGANTIC MAGNIFYING GLASS! Aside from making her small, Hank Pym changes Janet Van Dyne's DNA just to grows real wings out of her back, WOW pretty impressive, how about a flame thrower to her too. Or how about plucking off those wings. AHHH, The Black Panther's claws how many characters do we need with the metal or sharp claws? Boring. They gave Black Panther “Cyber Blades” that can cut through anything, that's corny, why didn't they just add them to his gauntlets or gloves to make them retractable from his gloves, he won't lose those. They're called augmentations, somethings in the comics have and should be improved so they make more sense in the movies, that's not straying away from the comics, that's improving on them which they do even within the comics themselves.

  15. I would rather see the nigerian actor from serenity, children of men and red belt play the black panther…he's a far superior actor and hes shown he has martial arts/fighting skills from serenity and red belt.

Also I heard that tyrese will be playing Luke cage (IMDB) and they start filming a solo movie next year.

  16. I heard about that to but Marvel please..No tired Tyrese for Luke Cage. Idris Elba is perfect for Luke Cage plus he's got the whole Harlemite,New Yorker accent swagger and attitude down. He was great in “The Wire” too, although he was a drug dealer, he was very cool calm collective, calculating and intelligent which is how I want to see Luke Cage. Chewitel Ejiofor from “Serenity” is awesome too and he'd be the perfect actor for the first black “007 James Bond”. I just think that Djmon Honsou was made for the Black Panther role,he's a perfect fit. Ejiofor as “The Falcon” could work though.

  17. Although Chewitel Ejiofor as Black Panther would still be awesome too.

  18. David Hassoloff as Dr. Strange ………..LMAOROTF……. sometime i just crack myself up…lol lol

  19. Idris Elba is in Thor, if you didn't know :)

  20. Marvel has a great oppertunity here to grab the Comic Book Based Film genere and become its master. The key is to keep Disneys power people out (the corporate executives who often mess things up by getting involved in areas they shoudl not) while keeping the financial backing of Disney in.

Just as important is the need to hire the right people to do a film, basing the hiring on quality of the individual and not the cost so that the films get done right. I'm not saying ignore costs all together only that they shouldn't go with a cheaper deirector because it saves thems money even as much as a few million because the director is key. You can have a great story and great actors and something still sucks because of the director. This is true of all 4 key parts of the process:

    The Director
    The Actors
    The writers
    The Editor

This is not to say that all otehrs involved (the behind the sceenes people) aren't important to the process, only that these 4 are key because when you get these 4 pieces right its a lot easier to get a great film.

  23. Yeah I knew that, sense he'll be mostly in armor, he can still be Luke Cage, plus Ray Stevenson was The Punisher and he's in Thor also.

  24. Edward Norton was great as Bruce Banner and the Incredible Hulk (2008) was wau better than the new one in the Avengers he didn’t talk or have much of a role in it just smash and child like than in the hulk 2 movie was more than just a mindless hulk.

  25. I am not sure why we have have 3 actors to play Bruce Banner don’t get me wrong Mark Rufflo is great and all that but he didn’t strike me as Bruce Banner character Edward Norton or even Eric Bana was the better choice I prefter the 2008 Incredible Hulk they keep changing the charcter and the personality of each one is different and meant to be the same it doesn’t boade well at all. Wether you agree with me or not that is fine just a point of voice nothing to say it is right or wrong. Was a good movie but not what I expect more action in the other Mavel movies. Joss Whedon is a great direcor etc Loved Buffy and Angel etc. Keep up the good work!

  26. Josh Brolin as Dr Strange
