Stan Lee has teased the arrival of a major new character in Avengers: Infinity WarGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is still riding high at the box office, well on its way to grossing $1 billion before its cinematic run is over. In fact, Marvel is still enjoying the kind of success that everyone wants to emulate. With several movies lined up for release through 2020, including this year's Thor: Ragnarok, and 2018's Black Panther, the MCU shows no signs of slowing. The one movie that everyone is looking forward to above all other Marvel offerings, though, is next year's Avengers: Infinity War, and also, the fourth Avengers movie, set to arrive in 2019.

We know Infinity War will be all about Thanos trying to assemble the Infinity Stones, an event which in turn, sees all the defenders of the galaxy coming together, setting their differences aside, and uniting to stop him before he can destroy everything. The cast list is vast; over thirty Marvel characters set to appear, but now Marvel creator, Stan Lee, is teasing (at least) one more.

Speaking at a Q&A in Des Moines, Iowa, Lee told the assembled group, including Gamezone, that a major new character - or characters - will appear in Infinity War. From the sound of it, Lee was then told by his assistant that he couldn't discuss it any further (shame!) but he did add that fans will be pleased.

Avengers Infinity War cast

Of course, speculation immediately turns to who it could be. The obvious choice would be Adam Warlock. Despite James Gunn denying Adam will appear in Infinity War, his appearance in a post-credits scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, must mean something. We already know that Brie Larson will make her MCU debut in Infinity War, so it seems unlikely that Lee would be teasing her arrival, so if we take Gunn at his word - and also rule out the surprise being Captain Marvel, who's left?

Peter Dinklage is on the cast list, along with mo-cap performer, Terry Notary. Notary has teased that he plays alongside Josh Brolin as Thanos' right hand man, which possibly hints at him being Cull Obsidian. Then there's Dinklage, who has been rumored to be playing Pip the Troll, The Watcher, or even MODOK. Of course, nothing is known, but Dinklage as MODOK is something that one half of Infinity War screenplay duo, Christopher Markus, has wanted for a while. That would certainly be a popular choice, and, given how out-of-this-world Infinity War is going to be, MODOK, who is essentially a giant head in a chair, wouldn't be too out of place at all.

We're unlikely to know, of course, because Marvel likes to keep everything under tight wraps. Lee might have been referring to a piece of casting news that has yet to be announced, and the character that he is referencing might take us all completely by surprise. Part of the fun is in the speculation, though, so, let the guesses begin!
