Just when we thought the legendary action character John Rambo was put firmly to rest last year with Rambo, it seems that Stallone wants to give the character yet another outing.
He had this to say:
Yeah, we are doing another ‘Rambo,’ but the conflict is whether to do it in America or a foreign country.
I had heard speculation about this possibly happening but I never actually believed Stallone would even consider the idea much less actually go ahead with it. Although last year’s Rambo was a half bad/half awesome movie (the first half being dreadful, but the second half kicking copious amounts of ass), it ended pretty much as perfectly as could be, bringing the character’s journey full circle to where we first saw him in the early 80s.
To me doing another film is wholly unnecessary and just seems to be to make money and nothing more. What more can possibly be done with the character that we haven’t seen in First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Rambo III or Rambo? The ridiculously full-on action was pushed to the max in the fourth film and I just don’t see the point in making another showing just more of the same.
But am I in the minority; does everyone else think it’s pointless making another one or are you yearning for more Rambo action?

While Rocky ended perfectly, I’m of the opinion that Rambo could do well in another outing. If they were talking about doing another Rocky, then I’d be up in arms, but in this case, with Rambo, I’m not convinced that there isn’t more story to be told.
Rambo (the last one) was the first film that just left me empty, totally empty. I didn’t even notice a story there, it was just plain bs :s
What’s wrong with making a movie purely for profit? In my opinion the movie industry is a business first and a story telling operation second. And that is how it should be. There is no greater a motivater for men to create a quality product than financial gain.
Rambo’s last half was entirely too short and felt clipped. I think he could do a better job with a sequel.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
If they do another, Rambo should go up against someone just as good in guerilla warfare as he is. Also, let this one be it, no more Rambo movies. Let him live on an Indian reservation or something.

A lighthearted romantic comedy would actually surprise me.
Don’t make it. I agree, the last one was half good/half bad. I watched all three early last year, and I love part 1 (really speaks about how the Vietnam Vets were treated when they got home), part 2 wasn’t as good–too slick vs. the gritty first one, and part 3 was just BAD! Did we need THAT MANY subtitles? Of stupid dialogue?
Part 4 ended perfectly, like Ross said, with John going home.

How about Rambo vs. the vets association. He’s finally home in America, where he started, where the first chapter of a man out of place occured, and where he should be buried. I hope Stallone takes the opposite route of Rambo 4. That one satisfied the violence side. Maybe this one should be the one to get us thinkning. The kind you walk out and go, did we really do that? To people that should be our heroes? Its a dark period of America’s history, people still deny that it was the right thing to do. And I’ve always thought that’s somewhere the franchise could’ve become deeper-something more than an action movie. But a movie about heroes. And now, in a time where our action heroes are Daniel Craig and Matt Damon(sheesh) I’d welcome it.
Rambo vs Rocky vs Judge Dredd vs Tango vs that character he was in Demolition Man. It’d be more entertaining than any of those Eddie Murphy as everybody movies.
He should do a sequel to Cobra.

this could be produced on a tight budget
with a certainty it would make money
whether the film was good or not.

But in all honesty, I am not against a new Rambo, as long as the story works.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Rambo will meet up with his estranged father (we see dad’s ranch at the last movie’s end), and that Johnny will have to go up against some quite unscrupulous land developers who want dad’s acres. If true, it’ll be like several lame Van Damme/Seagal/”Road House” flicks.

I don’t think it’s anymore pointless making another Rambo than making another James Bond, Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Western, comedy, or coming of age film. Three out of the four Rambo films are quite good, with First Blood being a classic. I like what Stallone has done with his last Rocky and Rambo films. Plus, I find it inspiring to see Stallone in his 60’s maintain an action star status (from his latest pics, he looks awsome)!
