The Oscars were just last night and it was a solid enough show with many improvements from previous years. One of the big changes was the expansion of the Best Picture category from 5 nominees to 10, which at first I didn’t like although it actually worked well in the end.

The posters for the 10 Best Picture Nominees do what every movie poster does – sell the movie. But what if they were a bit more honest in their advertising?

Today for our SR pick we’ve turned the snark level up to 11 (on a 10-point scale) and selected a few of the funniest posters from a collection the guys over at College Humor created, which are dedicated to being entirely brutal and honest about what those Best Picture Nominees are really about.

Check out half of the collection below, and prepare to be amused:

For the rest of the posters of the other five Best Picture nominees – Up in the Air, The Hurt Locker, A Serious Man, An Education and The Blind Side – you can head over to College Humor.

Even if you’re a fan of these movies (and I have to say I’m a huge fan of all of them), the mock-posters are still very funny. The Up one is particularly funny and I almost spat Pepsi all over my computer monitor when I saw the “Brad Pitt’s hardly in it and it’s mostly in French” line on the Inglourious Basterds poster. Did you happen to notice the website at the bottom of the Avatar poster? Nice! icon smile SR Pick: Honest Oscars Movie Posters

Which one of those posters is your favorite?

  1. LOL, loved the 'Inglorious Basterds' and 'Avatar' poster.

  2. LOL, loved the 'Inglorious Basterds' and 'Avatar' poster.

  3. Heh, those are all really hilarious, and, sadly, too true in their own ways.

  4. Have to agree with you on the “UP” poster Ross. The phony web site at the bottom of the “Avatar” poster would have been even better if it went somewhere. The other posters on College Humor were pretty good too, which made me respect the thought that went into your choosing “Cringe” over the others…

  5. These are the posters I would paper my bedroom wall with! “Predictable.” Hysterical.

  6. This is amazing: Movie Posters that advertise what the film really is.

  7. That's hilarious, and I just looked at the other five movie posters on the college humor site and those were just as hilarious. I love Thurt Hurt Locker, and An Education (called 'They Have Sex' Tagline: Who gave this movie such a devestatingly boring name?)

  8. “Inaccurate Trailer” is right. I actually avoided Basterds when it was in theaters because the trailer didn't do it for me. I still regret that decision, as now I love this movie.

  9. I can't choose between Up and Inglorius Basterds!
