dexter parody SR Pick: Dexter In 60 Seconds

Dexter fans may appreciate this parody video by Landline.TV,  “Dexter In Sixty Seconds.”  The video was created as a part of Babelgum Comedy’s “In 60 Seconds” series and gives some loving ribbing to the familiar standards in the series. Landline.TV encourages fans to, “Get caught-up in time for Sunday’s Season 5 premiere by watching Dexter take questionably ethical revenge on ridiculously named serial killers!”

The video only really works if you are familiar with Dexter, but provides a surprisingly accurate (and comical) depiction of the show’s most consistently visited and revisited character traits and storylines.

Take a look at the video and see how closely you think it nails the series tropes.

Some moments in the parody stand out as particularly apropos; including the reference to Dexter’s sailor-mouthed sister Debra, and her prolific use of the f-bomb: “Took you long enough! Swear Word.”

One also has to appreciate the play on the “hip” names each of the killers is given. So far on the series we have met: “The Ice Truck Killer”, who was, of course, Dexter’s long lost big brother; as well as “The Bay Harbor Butcher” AKA Dexter himself, or as he prefers to be called,  “The Dark Defender.” We have also had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of “The Skinner”, and getting to know the terrifyingly insane “Trinity.” You never can trust a do-gooder.

The video’s depiction of Debra’s inability to recognize her beau (subtly disguised in a “Jason” hockey mask) as the very same “Head-Foot Switcher” she seeks, is only rivaled by her obstinate failure to recognize the full nature and scope of Dexter’s nighttime pastimes.

As a card carrying Dexter fan, I am looking forward to seeing just what nickname the “homocidally inclined” antagonist will receive this season.

What did you think of the parody? Do you think it captures the flavor of the show?

Dexter Season 5 premieres on Showtime this Sunday, September 26th at 9PM ET/PT. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out the Dexter season 5 clips.

  1. “Does anyone even care about our storylines?”

  2. That was effin awesome.

  3. `Well it started out OK. If this best summarizes the series, then its no small wonder that the video is labeled a parody. But then the show itself seems like a parody!? Never seen the show but if that was representative of the dialog and the music, then I’m happy I never tried to get into it.

A parody of a show that itself is suppose to be a parody, doesn’t work very well, apparently…

    • Old Man this isn’t at all a good representation of what Dex is. It’s a very good show well worth watching. I wouldn’t base your judgment of it based on this video. These guys make fun of pretty much every show I’m sure you can find a few you show you like being made fun of by them and you wouldn’t agree with what they are saying.

      • Yeah I see your point Daniel, it’s why I worded my comment the way I did. I know it was made more for insiders to the series but it’s way too wired into that group. I wasn’t 100% sure though because of the sound track choices. The Massuka inclusion loses all its power to an outsider because it has no reference point within the parody. He obviously needs a better establishing scene prior to the punchline that you a fan can appreciate but to newbies seems random. would have been much better to do it that way in my opinion. And those snippets of sound track by themselves isolated as they are, really grate and even begin to smell. No mean feat making music smell…

  4. I’d find it more funny if at least half of the stuff they used were even remotely close to the show. Dex hasn’t really done anything to make Deb suspicious at least not to make her think he’s a killer. It wouldn’t make sense for her to think that he was one.

The only part of this that was accurate just also happened to be funny and that was Massuka popping up and saying Sex and then laughing. That pretty much nailed his character.

    • @ Daniel F,

Yeah the Massuka giggle was perfect, also the deb swear word joke was an easy jab, Dexter is a great show, but this is really funny!

  5. That Masuka guy was on the money – Lege!
