Of course the jocks’ response to that will be: “We’re too busy out [insert whatever cool or provocative activity here] instead of watching movies!”

There, I’ll say it for them…

Josh R says:

The Longest Yard remake is the highest grossing sports movie?? Really?

The Big Dentist says:

I’m surprised Any Given Sunday isn’t in there somewhere.

Zipper Stevens says:

With a lot of sports movie being comedies, it’s really unfair to compare them comic book movies which have a higher name recognition than even a remake of the Longest Yard.

…and Any Give Sunday stunk.

Andy S says:

I wonder if they also considered the budget of the films, also. I bet the comic book movies also averaged 4x the price to make, too.

I like both types of movies, though. IMO, some of the best movies ever made were sports movies: Major League, Field of Dreams, The Longest Yard and The Replacements are 4 of my favorite movies of all-time. They’re just not the visual spectacle that movies like The Dark Knight and Spider-Man are.

The Big Dentist says:

Can’t argue with you there, Zipper! Did AGS really not even do $10 million at the box office though?

Good point Andy. Budgets and actors’ fees must balance things out a little more there.

Matt Keith says:

The only sports films I like are: Major League, Invincible, Remember The Titans, and The Replacements.

Michael says:

Well not to mention that Spider-Man is more well known than the TC Williams Titans(Remember The Titans) and Batman is more well liked than the Boston Red Sox(Fever Pitch)

Z says:

Well, of course nerd movies get a better over-all rating. Sports flicks all have the same plot. 8P
