New ‘Splice’ Trailer Unleashed

splice 2 New Splice Trailer Unleashed

The upcoming sci-fi horror film, Splice, has a new trailer and it reveals much more of the film than the original teaser.

While we’ve already had a few good looks at the splice monster, the second trailer gives a more detailed glimpse into the summer movie that is getting loads of buzz in the film community.

Interestingly, the emphasis of this second trailer is on the impact of genetic interference by science. One line specifically stands out as a hint as to the structure of Splice: “Human cloning is illegal. This won’t be human.” The moment instantly felt like Frankenstein meets Adam and Even in The Garden of Eden. It seems clear once the Splice scientists make the decision to try their scientific research on human DNA, everything goes wrong.

Obviously, the focus of Splice merges the concept behind human DNA splicing and monster movies. There’s no question the movie is deeply inspired by Species, another DNA-experimentation-gone-bad film – which featured a gorgeous creation named Sil who seduced men in a globetrotting search for the perfect mate. Needless to say, she was more praying mantis than cuddly koala.

The plot synopsis for Splice is a bit generic, but does give more insight than both trailers – which, upon further review, still feel like teasers.

“Superstar genetic engineers Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) specialize in splicing together DNA from different animals to create incredible new hybrids. Now they secretly conduct their own experiments. The result is Dren, an amazing, strangely beautiful creature that exceeds their wildest dreams, until she threatens to become their worst nightmare.”

The summary definitely hints at some pretty disturbing moments, but details on Splice are still slim and we’ve yet to get an official word on how closely Splice will follow the Species formula.

Regardless, we’ve  seen plenty of action and suspense in the Splice trailers, which feature numerous flash cuts – making it hard to keep up at times. Still, the sound design and suspenseful moments create a two-minute experience that will get your blood going.

Considering how weak the beginning of the trailer seemed, I grew nervous about the film.

But it’s clear once the creature, called Dren, is let loose, the movie will get wild and crazy – similar to The Descent, which really didn’t pick up until the creatures were introduced.

Reactions to the film at a Sundance screening were extremely positive – claiming Splice is more than just a monster movie. There’s got to be a reason behind Warner Bros. offering Splice a prime mid-summer release.

What do you think? Does the trailer cement Splice as one of your must see movies this summer? Are you anxiously awaiting its arrival?

Splice hits theaters June 4th, 2010.

  1. Looks ok. I never understood why people think cloning and splicing is a moral subject… and I still don't. I just want to see some half human half something else already.

  2. It's old news, too.

  3. Been waiting for this movie to hit our shores for awhile now. Thing is tricking the wife into seeing it… :D

If acted well I think this will be a sleeper type movie with a huge fan base.

  4. I've thought this looked intriguing from day one. Looking forward to seeing it.

  5. Um. Isn't this just a remake of Species?

  6. Definitely not my friend. This movie seems to be a hell of alot more complex than Species.I never really saw the Species movies on DVD,but those movies from what I have saw in portion are nothing more than excuses to have Natasha Henstridge naked. Those movies are kinda popcorn sci-fi/action flicks, with part one being the best.IMO

    • You make naked Natasha sound like a bad thing…

  7. Really cant wait to see this.Looks really good.Gotta convince my wife to come with
