I really liked 300. Other than the whole weird animals and monsters thing, they got the jist of the real event. But they did kind of over glorify Leonidas’ force, because they didn’t do it alone. Xerxes was not an idiot and was well aware of their tactic of bottlenecking them on the narrow pass in order to minimize their front, so he had his Navy on standby and when he gave the word they were to sneak around Leonidas’ force and surround their army of 300. In the film, they quickly disregarded this aspect with storms that just magically ate up all of the ships, but in real life they had a Naval battle that kept Xerxes’ Navy from accomplishing this goal, but I guess they wanted to give 100% of the glory to Leonidas and his 300. It is the title of the movie after all I guess, lol.

Someone actually thinks this looks amazing? Wow. I think it looks like a more violent and sexually driven Dick Tracy with Sin City look to it. Looks to be possibly the next worst comic film ever. I’m wondering can this be worse than B&R

The first trailer actually had me excited; very film noir, very Dark Deco. An edgier version of Eisner’s character.

This trailer just makes me think it’s going to be another Dick Tracy or The Shadow (oh, God, The Shadow, ick)…without the semi-redeeming soundtrack and awesome Dustin Hoffman cameo.

Still, I’m not willing to give up all hope. Miller and Eisner were friends; I’d like to think that Frank has enough sense not to totally ruin everything that one of comics most influential artists ever accomplished. If he does, I’m pretty sure the fanboy riot that follows will insure he’ll never sell another book with his name on it.

the first trailer interested me but this…..

I think this is exactly the kryptonite that Miller needs actually. To reign him back in.

I am a huge fan of the guys work. Years back, he experienced the true shittiness of hollywood that made him say that he would never work there again (the Robocop years etc)

We get SIN CITY which is Rodriquez’s love letter to Miller and a great comic series that brings Miller back with little to NONE of the BS he had to deal with before – what happens – Sin City does GREAT business and in true hollywood fashion, after 300 (which I loved – more than Sin City actually) does great, hollywood does the ‘blank check’ thing cause his material has made much $$$, gives him total slack and let the guy do whatever the F he wants.

And how many times have we seen THAT go right?

And regarding the comment about Miller being an ‘overrated director’….. ummm his name was on Sin City because Rodriguez wanted him actively involved – as much as he lent a hand on set, I don’t believe what he did was truly ‘directing’.

He had nothing to do with 300 regarding directing….. so its hard for him to be overrated if this is his first directing gig.

mmm I don’t know what to say really.
It is not what I expected after seeing the first trailer and Sin City. But I still think this leans a bit toward Sin City, well it is a SIN City after all, (I know, this has nothing to do with Sin City, but I expected another Sin City-like film, so I am still curious about it!). Eisner was big on b&w visual contrasts, and the strip always had a lot of female villains who were exaggerated versions of the likes of Joan Crawford and Jane Russell. However, his drawing style was very fluid and curvy: the exact opposite of Miller’s brutal, angular linework, and seemingly the way this has been filmed. Miller really shouldn’t be removing it from reality to this extent. He needs a strong ’40s-ish gangster storyline, not just some vigilante leaping about on rooftops in slo-mo. And the whole point of The Octopus was that you never saw his face! Never! Has someone taken a bet on how messed-up they can make Samuel L look in a movie or what? If Miller’s own work was treated like this he’d be having kittens, the creepy sod.

Shane, I agree with every word. TDKSA was so bad it was surreal. Hideous, evil colouring – like Lynn Varley was under the influence of ether and barely knew how to turn a computer on.

Vic, GB’ll not thank you for that, y’know! That must have become his Alan Rickman “Grabthar’s hammer” thing by now.

I loved Sin City. 300 was just OK , but this movie looks god awful. Some people think it looks better when Samual L Jackson shows up but I think that’s when it look even worst. It goes from soft core porn to extreme camp.
