Not unlike the teaser trailers for The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers, which both leaked online early in crappy bootleg form, The Amazing Spider-Man had its reveal trailer also leaked online the night before last. Today however, a pretty HD version of Sony’s Spider-Man reboot has surfaced online, introducing the new Peter Parker played by Andrew Garfield.
While The Amazing Spider-Man teaser does not reveal the villains of director Marc Webb’s take on the series, it does showcase the origins of Spider-Man and closes with an interesting reveal of the costume while Spider-Man swings through the streets of New York.
With the Sony presentation at Comic-Con scheduled for Friday afternoon, where they will host panels for the Total Recall remake, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and The Amazing Spider-Man, the early forced release of the Spidey teaser is something Sony is likely not smiling about. Considering the amount of revealing images shared from Entertainment Weekly last week, a lot has been shared before Sony’s big presentation.
Hopefully those of us who made the trek out here will get a sneak peek at more footage, for now enjoy an early look at first ever trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man:
The trailer, which is quite a bit different than the leaked Amazing Spider-Man trailer description, takes on a noticeably different tone from that of Sam Raimi-Tobey Maguire trilogy of Spider-Man movies, and presents itself in a similar fashion to what Christopher Nolan did with Batman Begins. Why are Peter Parker’s parents leaving him when he’s a young boy? The question of why Peter was living with Uncle Ben and Aunt May wasn’t explored in the first trilogy, nor was it answered in the comics for many years. Hopefully this film explores that more in-depth as it’s presented as a rather mysterious fashion at the outset of this video.
The trailer puts viewers through the paces of meeting Peter Parker as a geeky outsider in school, introducing much of the supporting cast, from Dr. Curt Connors to the Stacy family and Parker’s aunt and uncle. Then, after re-telling the origins of of how Peter Parker gains his abilities, it goes into full Spider-Man mode through an interesting first-person roller coaster, as if it were a 3D ride at an amusement park. That’s the made-for-3D moment and selling point.
Will this movie be the X-Men: First Class of next year’s (again) busy comic book heavy summer?
The Amazing Spider-Man was written by James Vanderbilt, Steve Kloves and Alvin Sargent and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Embeth Davidtz, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan and Chris Zylka.
The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters (in 3D) on July 3, 2012.

The only thing I didn’t like about this trailer was kid Peter lol…that child actor wasn’t great. I’m excited for this movie and I have no problem with an origin story again. A new vision for this franchise is exciting to me and I would like to see their take on the story start at the beginning.
So, NOW can I say that this movie looks like a Spider Turd?
A really lengthy origin story with Peter’s parents this time who, let’s be honest, have never been interesting characters.
The Skinny Spider with the Nikes on – I mean really? Do you care so little for the character?
Neck webbing? LOL It should have been BUTT webbing.
Now why does this look a whole lot like a Romantic Drama? OHH, that’s right because the director HAS NEVER DONE AN ACTION MOVIE.
To Marc Webb: Go back & do 501 Days of Summer and leave Spidey to the actual directors.
I love Spiderman and will be first on line to see this but…it’s still too soon to be rebooting this, they should have waited awhile longer or just made a movie without the origin story…
This is Really stupid and Rediculous… I would like to Thank Sony for Screwing everything about Spiderman for us.. Not only could we have had another Better Spiderman Movie coming along with Spiderman 4 Raimi’s version but we could have also had a better looking costume as well compare to this one.
So what is this A Twilight/TDK/Spiderman epic or is this a Spiderman Movie cause to me it sounds that they mixed Twilight in with TDK along with Spidey.. 2.) they really screwed up the cast they picked the wrong cast for the film 3.) I thought Sony wanted to go along with Venom? Where is he mentioned in the film? I dont hear about him so why the Lizard? wasnt that the villian that Raimi was going to put in Spiderman 4 along with the Vulture? 3.) and I thought they were going to go with a younger Spiderman because Tobey was too old they Garfield character is 27 people 4.) The Spider Alien outfit looks like Garbage it was poorly done..I think I will just stick with TDKR Enough said
1. Just because this movie takes place in High School, doesn´t mean it´s Twilight related crap.
2. How can you tell they screwed up the cast yet? Have you seen the movie already?
3. Sony does what Sony wants. And Raimi has nothing to do with it. Get over it.
4. The outfit looks different, but cool. And yeah, go stick with TDKR and watch a Batman movie without a superhero (because that´s what Batman is supposed to be).
This does look alot better than expected. It’s good to know that marc webb is taking a different approach than raimi. I think that a darker spider would be good to see on screen. As far as them rebooting the franchise, really they have been making spider man since 1962, those were all reboots from the original, so its really nothing wrong with it. The comic books keep getting rebooted every yr, and so do the games. The Dark Knight is a reboot and it’s one the greatest of all time. I’m excited to see this, really I’m excited about movies agian.
Would anyone mind explaining what looked so bad about the CGI at the end? I personally didn’t see anything wrong with it but I’m just curious as to what others feel about it.
I’m with you on this question. It looked great to me, and I really hate poorly done CGI. If you want to see some poorly done CGI sequences, watch the first Raimi Spiderman. The sequence in this trailer looked awesome!!
My only issue with the CG was the fact that it felt like I was watching someone play Mirror’s Edge. Mind you, Mirror’s Edge is a gorgeous game, but the simple fact is that video game graphics usually do not equate to a good film.
CG has come a long way, and while the first-person spider ride was a really interesting way of introducing the film to a dubious world, this just didn’t feel like good CG. Then again, it is sure to get better, so fingers tightly crossed.
People love to complain about things so they can have a built-in excuse for not giving it a chance. The CGI was realistic and I thought the POV approach was a great idea, something they never took advantage of in the previous “Spiderman” films which is baffling. But, I mean, what do people want? Do they expect a stuntman to mount a camera on his head and run around on tops of buildings doing Parkour and then plunge off the top of a building?
People especially love to complain when something sucks like the Spiderman trailer. The CGI was not at all realistic and looked about as good as old PS2 graphics for a gaming console.
I don’t think people expect a stuntman to mount a camera. I think they expect good CGI which this didn’t feature. Or something not as dumb as a first person scene. Which is just dumb. Especially one that is a blatant rip off of a game.
Daniel – I have to totally disagree. Have you seen the HD version of this trailer? The CGI looks incredible, and is in no way like PS2 graphics. We all wished PS2 graphics were this good (PS3 graphics aren’t this good). I encourage you to watch the HD trailer, because I’m not sure what you’re talking about.
I’ve heard a number of people on here talk about that scene resembling Mirror’s Edge. Really? I can see that to some extent, but the girl in Mirror’s Edge couldn’t climb walls or sling webs. The scene is actually an interesting perspective of what it might be like to travel through a city as Spiderman and was done very well in my opinion. And just because it resembles something you’ve seen before, it shouldn’t ever be done again? With that logic, no movie should ever be about war, have a car chase, have a fist fight, have a gun battle, use martial arts, etc, etc. To each his own – you may not be excited about this movie, but I certainly am.
what u talking about its a complete rip off Mirror’s Edge does not matter if she shoots a web look at the video yourself. a side by side of the Spider-Man trailer and Mirror’s Edge
RULE # 1 Put the best of the best of your CGI in the trailer… OR don’t put any CGI at all. We all know what happened to GL.
Not really, remember the first Iron Man trailer had unfinished CGI in it. Namely the Tank scene…
To be honest, this movie looks amazing. I think it should be given a chance. And as for the fashion of the film, I like it. Its a todays film. Its not Sam Raimi’s version. Its the teen lifestyle, and regardless of how you feel this is the fashion sense of today. Give the damn movie a chance and stop taking everything part bit by bit.
That CGI scene looks like Mirror’s Edge : The Movie.
The trailer was awesome, best one yet along with The Dark Knight Rises.
If the film is a bit darker like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, this might smash box office records.
But The Lizard Man as the main villain, I hope that works out well.
this looks like it has potential…I wouldn’t bash it that much yet. I could question some things about the trailer, but its only the trailer.
This looks fantastic. I’m loving it. I don’t mind seeing the origin story again because it’s a great story. Can’t wait to see how the real web slinging looks in action. I like underdog directors. I hope Webb hits this one out of the park.
Just watched this in HD on Yahoo Movies. The CG is flawless at the end. Not sure what detractors are thinking when they say it looks bad because I’m as picky as they get. But, to each his own…
You’re totally right. On the HD trailer, the first person POV and CGI at the end is spectacular!!
I see no point in this fil cause it looks like garbage as it is..the suit was made wrong and sloppy made not the mention that it might even turn out as horrible as The Green Lantern movie with that CGI that is porrly done. The suit itself explains the film itself 1.) Looks like garbage 2.) Poorly done. The suit for crying out loud looks like a sloopy dirty basketball well at least the mask does..and whats with the shoes why is he wearing silver on the shoes at least the other Spiderman costume looked better than this sloopy made costume

Burn in hell. And spam some other sites.
I really hate that in order to justify this retarded origin flick, Sony and their minions set out to tear down the reputation and memory of everything Raimi accomplished. Spider-Man I&II are not just two of the best superhero movies ever made, but were also 2 of the biggest box office hits ever. They were widely loved by audiences all over the world. These were insanely popular films. Now Sony and its minions like to throw dirt on them and indulge in revisionist history, of how awful they were and how audiences were just panting to have a new origin to “do it right”. Bollocks and lies. There is no evidence of that at all. None.
Spider-Man I has a 89% Rotten Tomato score and made $822 million worldwide (not factoring in inflation). Spider-Man II has a 93% score and made $784 million worldwide. They are both in the all-time top 3 box office for superhero movies. Nobody disliked these films except for the extreme fringe. This revisionist history bull**** is tiresome. This re-origin was done only for corporate greed and to keep rights. Not for any artistic “getting it right” after the “awful” Raimi origin crud that Sony likes to spew now.
Yikes that looks terrible. I hope that is just a hype trailer and that terrible video game scene isn’t in the actual film. Also would it kill the wise cracking spiderman to crack a smile and raise his head a little bit.
It’s a trailer. Honestly. It’s two minutes and thirty seconds long. The movie is going to be between 100 to 120 minutes. I’m sure Peter Parker will smile at least once or twice during it and throw in a couple one-liners here and there. Stop nitpicking. It’s a reboot. It’s trying to give Peter Parker a backstory so that you can know why he became who he became. His parents left him and he is a brooding loner that lives with his Aunt and Uncle. If that happened to someone in real life, he or she probably wouldn’t smile much either. It is supposed to be more grounded. But everyone is so quick to judge this. The only reason people are disparaging this movie is because they have something to compare it to. If this version of Spiderman would have came out 9 years ago, everyone would be saying who the hell is Tobey Maguire, why are they remaking Spiderman, he looks like a dork. The movie comes out July of next year. That’s a year away. It’s not coming out this weekend.
Are you completely stupid? WHO DOESN’T KNOW THE SPIDERMAN ORIGIN STORY BY NOW?????
There are about a gazillion OTHER interesting stories from the Spiderman world and its twits like you who keep supporting the SAME DAMN THING.
Hope this movie flops harder than your support for unnecessary reboots!
James – you’ve put in a couple of posts in the last few minutes that are laden with insults. It’s obvious you have lots of “courage”, since you can post anonymously. I think it’s safe to say you aren’t so bold and full of courage when speaking to others in person.
You’re obviously full of hate and anger (toward this movie, life, yourself, whatever). I personally hope you get banned from this site. Disagreement is fine, but when you have to call others stupid and twits, it speaks more of your own personal problems (e.g., low self esteem) than of any other poster’s intelligence.
And I forgot, if you pay close attenton at the .50 mark, you will see what you’re looking for.
Not feeling it so far, it’s still early though hut it looks like Twlight mixed with some Spidey.
Ok. For all you “what Raimi did” people out there. Its over. Just like Nolan with Batman.
SM was rolling down hill fast be it from Raimi, Sony, etc it doesnt really matter. All I know is it was going to heck in a hand basket.
So instead of seeing a bunch of people fighting over a property I grew up with and screwing it up even more Im happy for the rebooot/restart/Ultimate angle.
On to the trailer.
We get to see Parker see his parents for the last time. They walk out on him promising him they will be back. Im guessing
they dont come back and he never hears from them again. The little boy that believed his parents (the only people you should be able to 100% believe and trust) walked out promising to be back but never did….
That has got to hurt. So if Parker is “Emo” I think he has a crutch to stand on. While yes he has an aunt and uncle that love him and take care of him just as much (if not more) then his parents did, gues what… they are still not his parents. It was not like he was an infant when they “walked out”.
Not to mention it appears he gets a grim reminder of them from a briefcase that was his fathers. That may or may not point to what happened to them or what they were messed up in (gene manipulation) before they went missing. (Maybe with Brocks parents???
) Put this with the possiblilty that Parker now thinks Uncle Ben hid/kept this from him so he just gets a little more emo by being betrayed by the only family he has.
In comes Gwen. I will guess speculate that they move to town (father transfers to be Chief?) and they have no childhood history. She appears to be a science type person that puts her on par with Parkers love for science. (again Spectacular) He helps her in school while she gets him a behind the scenes look at the palce she works/temps which just happens to be the same place his parents reference in the briefcase. A gene therapy place.
The lead scientist is Curt Connors. We know about him. He has a muppet on his hand and wants it replaced with a real hand. Splicing genes of a lizard appears the only way he can accomplish this. So the funder of the lab alllows him to research that track using the equipment he pays for as long as he does gene studies with other things…..
(the briefcase find might be AFTER he is bitten which than compounds his anger at Ben)
The rest is semi history. Parker gets bit. Powers start to manifest. He gets upset with Ben then looses him to something he could prevented.
What we find out close to the end or maybe midway is Curt Connors in the gene place where Parker gets bit is run by……. you guessed it…. Osborn.
Possibly a military type contract that is looking to enhance humans on the battle field. They can not directly reference the Super Soldier formula but that is the way it was in the Ultimates. Much like what Osborn was trying to do with the battle suit.
This looks like the same movie from 10 years ago. I was excited till now. And that end scene I heard so much about looked like something on a bad 3D ride at Disney. I was waiting for my chair to start shaking and wind blowing in my face. 2012 will be the year of the Bat!!!
Can’t wait. I have a feeling that the IMAX 3D is going to make me sick. That last scene was awesome.
To all those that think his suit looks like a basketball. You need to get out of the house for a while. You obviously haven’t seen a basketball in a while. At least google a picture of a basketball and tell me what looks like a basketball. Basketballs have knobs that stick out. Spidey has an inny not an outy.
So the basketball is inside out…..yet still a basketball.
Not feeling it…really not feeling it like Spiderman 1 and 2 sorry =(
You people applauding this movie are a sorry bunch.
Seriously, ANOTHER origin story? Listen if you want to pay money to see the same story over and over, then your mental capacity might be weening into oblivion.
Those supporting this trash encourage it.
I heard a Spectacular Spiderman is in the works to reboot the Amazing Spiderman film that flopped hard the year before. It will show the origin of Spiderman from when he was born, his life as a kid, and being bite by a spider! This new film will feature CGI from the butt view of Spiderman so its like TOTALLY original and a MUST SEE!!
Now, run to the theaters you spidersheep.
Wait…when is the Spectacular Spiderman coming out? That sounds awesome!
Its not another origin story its the same one only a little different.
What original stories are you seeing in the movies now adays?
Butt View? Sweet count me in.
Thanks DF I just passed pepsi and chicken through my nose.
I read that wrong at first lol thought you said you pissed pepsi through your nose and I was baffled and disturbed.
Agreed another origin is not worth all that hype and the trailer gives us nothing all that new,I think what will make this movie good is the the new villain.
If they are rebooting / retelling Spider-Man(2002), cant WB just reboot Harry Potter(2001)?
Seriously! The most unnecessary “re-boot” ever! Another ruse by the studios to rob people off their money. Do most people in America suffer from some kind of amnesia that they need to know how Spiderman ‘became’? Could they have not continued the same series with a different director and actor?
The most amusing thing is that the people whore peeing themselves in their pants with excitement over this are the same who couldn’t stop praising Saim Raimi’s version!
Actually this spider-man is more based on the Ultimate Universe rather than the original Stan Lee incarnation like the Raimi films are loosely based upon. I myself would prefer to see a movie based on the 2099 Spider-Man that we hardly see. It’d be a nice change of pace in the Super Hero Movie scene.
Also there is no originality in the movies of today. They’re either based off of something like videogames, cartoons, comics, etc., or they’re a remake/re-boot of a movie that came out back in the 70′s or 80′s. Other movies that do happen to be original ideas turn out to be rushed wastes of time with a lack of a storyline. Pretty much all imaginative efforts are being put forth in all of the other mentioned mediums of entertainment & not so much into Hollywood like it once was. On top of that descent acting is starting to become a scarce talent among up & coming stars.
I don’t know if its just me, but I find Andrew Garfield really annoying. Out of about two lines of dialogue and a lot of reaction shots there is just something about him I do not like. At least Toby McGuire was just whiny.
I don’t think it’s possible for me to dislike someone as much as Toby Mcguire. Not saying I think this was awesome or anything, not sure about this yet, if it’s actually better than the other Spiderman, I guess it’s not a big deal they are rebooting it so soon, but if it’s just as bad or worse, then this was a waste of everyone’s time. We’ll wait and see. But one thing’s for sure, I REALLY disliked Toby McGuire, not even sure if that’s how his name is spelled, but I don’t care…
Hey Sock Monkey!
I Agree with you!
what i want to see in a upcoming spiderman movie, is possibly the manspider
side effect of the bite. when peter starts turning more spider than man i think it could be interesting to see xD
What like shooting organic webs from his wrist?
I do know what you say though and with the gene manipulation angle it is possible.
Just depends how they go with it. Did you read Ultimate Spiderman?
It would have been a nice change of pace if they had him start off as spiderman and had his past weaved in via flashbacks. Cant sit through another hour long origin story.
I don’t have much hope for this film. It’s just a combination of wrong moves, a perfect storm of wrong moves, and I cannot see (yet) how it overcomes that.
It isn’t just the suit that’s the problem. It isn’t just the fact that it’s a reboot that’s the problem. It isn’t that they’ve thrown in his parents who have little to nothing to do with his reason for being Spider-Man. It isn’t that they’ve made Spider-Man dark. It isn’t that they’ve made him look like an unused character design from Twilight. It’s that when all of these things come together, they evoke a simple feeling: “This isn’t Spider-Man”.
I can’t say it any better than that. The character is iconic for a reason. He’s had longevity for a reason. He isn’t the tragic, brooding Bruce Wayne, he’s a nerd who’s granted special powers, takes them for granted, and learns a hard and life changing lesson about ignoring the responsibility that comes with said powers. Some times he’s lucky, a lot of the time he’s not. He can save the world and get evicted in the morning. He is a heroic embodiment of what it means to be an adult, and because everyone goes through those changes, and faces those responsibilities, he’s inherently relatable. That is the spirit of Spider-Man, and I’m not seeing it in this trailer.
Raimi’s vision of Spidey wasn’t perfect. He completely blew it with Gwen Stacy, and Sandman into a story that was a perfect fit for Venom, and went one music number too far, but the one thing he nailed, the most important thing, was the spirit of Spider-Man. He captured the essence of the character.
If I’m wrong, I’ll gladly eat my words because I love the Spider-Man mythos, but I’m getting the distinct feeling that this film is going to be in abject lesson in why the Dark Knight approach isn’t right for every superhero film.
Even in the main stream Marvel U his parents were never around as supporting their country was more important then raising a child. (I added venom to that take it as you will)
So it solidifies the bond betwen him and his aunt and uncle.
In the Ultimate U it is a little differnt. In Spectacular (cartoon) even more.
In the UU his father was a biologist looking for a cure for cancer using a bio suit (which would alter become Venom). He was also on hand helping with the Super Soldier formula (which we will never see referenced in a Sony Spiderman movie).
So his parents while not directly tied to him being/becoming Spiderman does have creedence with other SM mythos.
I dont beleive they have made him dark. Define dark. If PETER brooding, going emo for the loss of his Uncle, discovery about his parents etc? Possibly. Will that mean his is ready to slit his wrist if he sees a sad kitty picture?
No Peter was always a semi introvert as he was the brains. Whats wrong with making him as such because of grief or emotional pain due to loss? Its more common now adays that kids feel different due to this (IMO) then being smarter….
The Twilight reference has been used in almost every movie that people need an ‘out’. Im surprised Twilight hasnt been compared to the new Paranormal3 trailer. So what if the film is trying to get a new group of young adults slightly interested in the story/history of Spiderman by making him a little more ‘hip’ for the times? As you stated all SPiderman/Peter is “he’s a nerd who’s granted special powers, takes them for granted, and learns a hard and life changing lesson about ignoring the responsibility that comes with said powers.” Just replace nerd with outcast, emo, etc. Just because he is a SMART person does not mean he cant have other personaility traits. As long as he gets these special powers, takes them for granted and learns, etc what does it matter if he is a monkey? The story, lesson and all we know about what makes it special is still there.
It is Spiderman (or at least I hope so) at the nucelus. Times change. Would it be neat to see a Spiderman movie done as a period piece? meh you know I would enjoy it as you and probably all of the fan base that grew up on him would. However now a days when it is about getting fannies into the seats to make money I dont see it happening.
Sorry if it seems harsh however Im a firm believer that the Spiderman/Parker character can be inside anyone much like it was represented those many years ago. It doesnt matter about your race, age, sex, religious beliefs or what planet you are from. It is all about the responsibility that you must use when you are granted more than others. I believe it has always been about that and the rest is just icing.
Interesting trailer, I’m reserving complete judgement for when the movie is completed. This IS just a teaser so I don’t expect them to have perfection yet. Like The Dark Knight Rises, I’m just glad we got a snapshot.
What’s really annoying here is the fact that most of the arguing is about how Peter looks; which is like a student of his age living in New York City. If you don’t like it, think that it’s “emo”, “hipster”, or ridiculous that any male might care about their appearance then ok, but that doesn’t mean the movie will be stupid or any other negative term one cares to use. Andrew Garfield has proven himself to be a very good actor in several movies now and I don’t think that him wearing slim cut jeans, nikes, and hoodies automatically makes him a bad Peter. If Wolverine showed up in super skinny jeans and a Death Cab t-shirt I’d say that was out of place, but is it really that much of a stretch for Peter to look the way he does in the trailer? Also, Edward Cullen was not the first person to have combed back or messy hair, so can we leave him out of this?
Last thing, I agree about the origin story. I’m not super psyched to watch it again. Hopefully it will be brief and set up Doc Connors well. Overall, reboots aside, I am just hoping for a good film that has the same awesome characters, depth of emotion, and kickass action of the comics. We’ll see how this interpretation goes.
he has einstein hair.
I understand that some films need to be rebooted, films such as Ang Lees hulk (Terrible) but in all reality, spiderman did not need to be rebooted. Raimis first film grossed over 800 mil worldwide in 2002 which is quite an impressive feat considering it was almost 10 years ago, the second movie made a s*** load as well as the third one.
And i dont care what anyone says, the third spiderman was a damn good movie and big woop if Venom only got 20 minutes, you try create a studio approved script which had to contain a fan favourite character (Venom) as well as two other villans, SP3 ruled and if it didnt, Raimi would have redeemed himself greater wif SP4
Also the bit where the spider bit Andrwew Gayfield, he looked as if he was daydreaming about men
