Caution: Spoilers Ahead for Spider-Man: No Way Home

An alternate cut of Spider-Man: No Way Home's ending sets up Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's return to the MCU. Fans have not stopped buzzing about the film since its theatrical release in December 2021, and No Way Home's recent digital release has only served to further stoke the conversation. Both Garfield and Maguire reprised their roles as Spider-Man for the Sony/Marvel Studios crossover, joining Tom Holland's Peter Parker as they navigated the dangers of the multiverse to return a host of villains to their respective timelines. While the trio ultimately parted ways in the end, there might be a chance that they will re-assemble moving forward.

Before the third MCU Spider-Man installment even got its official title in early 2021, rumors were already circulating that Marvel Studios and Sony were looking to bring back Garfield and Maguire. The fact that the MCU started the process of establishing its multiverse further convinced fans that there was merit to the claims, despite repeated denial by people involved in the project. Ultimately, however, it was confirmed that Sam Raimi and Marc Webb's respective wall-crawlers were indeed in the film when Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theaters.

Despite multiple leaks and persistent rumors, it didn't diminish the impact of actually seeing Holland, Maguire, and Garfield together on the big screen. Amidst all the moving pieces in Spider-Man: No Way Home, director Jon Watts made sure to make the most out of what seemed like a one-time chance to bring all three actors together. However, a deleted scene from the threequel hints that Maguire and Garfield could return to the MCU in the future. In the scene, the trio says their final goodbyes and Holland quips, "I'll see you later". Garfield then replies, "You know where to find us." This effectively establishes that Holland is able to reach out to Garfield and Maguire anytime, leaving the door open for a reunion at some point in the future.

Spider-Man No Way Home still of Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire's Group Hug

It isn't going to be easy, however. As fans know, Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with the ultimate sacrifice for Holland's Peter. As the multiverse threatened to collapse, he gave Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) the go-ahead to cast a spell that would essentially strip him off of his identity. At this point, no one remembers him as Peter Parker, isolating the character from the people he loves the most. The specifics of the encantation are still unclear, but it's possible that Maguire and Garfield—who have since returned to their timelines—don't remember Holland and the time they spent together. But, if Spider-Man: No Way Home's script is any indication, there might be a loophole in Doctor Strange's spell that could reverse the whole situation.

As for Maguire and Garfield, now that their existence has been established in the MCU multiverse, Marvel Studios and Sony could decide to bring them back for future stories, especially considering the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Fans have been clamoring for Andrew Garfield's long-awaited The Amazing Spider-Man 3, and Maguire returning to Sam Raimi's universe as a much older, veteran Spider-Man also lends itself to plenty of unique storytelling opportunities. For now, fans will simply have to wait and see if the famed Spider-Men will reunite once again inside the multiverse.
