Sam Raimi, Director of all movies in the Spiderman franchise, spoke in the latest issue of Empire magazine and told them who he’d like to be the featured nemesis of Peter Parker’s alter ego in Spider-Man 4.
“I like it in the Marvel comics when Spider-Man fights Morbius,” said Raimi. “He’s really cool. A vampire! I like that combination of superhero plus supernatural.”
After Spider-Man 3, it was assumed by many that The Lizard would play a major role if there was to be another sequel as he was featured as an important secondary character in the movie playing a mentor-type role to Peter Parker in that film.

It would make sense to see The Lizard and Morbius as the two villains as they would work well together in the same film having had quite a bit of history together in the Spider-Man comics. On top of that, they share obvious similarities: Both are/were doctors, both work with different animals for their experiments and both achieved power from the same method.
Dr. Curt Connors (The Lizard) had his arm amputated due to an injury sustained by a blast while being a military surgeon. Later in life he studied the limb-regenerative capabilities of lizards and long story short, he turned into a humanoid-lizard hybrid.
Dr. Michael Morbius on the other hand, was a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist who suffered from a rare blood disease. Using experiments involving vampire bats and electroshock therapy, he ended up with super strength some side-effects similar to that of Vampirism and now he must drink blood from his victims.
I think this is a great idea for the next Spider-Man movie and if done right, can make up for the mess that was Spider-Man 3. This time they can focus on two characters and the film can be darker-themed with the nature of the characters involved. That being said, I’m getting a little tired of all of the Spidey villains partly redeeming themselves at the end and not being truly bad. That applies for both of these characters who are not entirely bad guys.
We should also not forget that Vampirism is definitely a current hot topic with the success of the Twilight books and movie which is turning into a series of films as well as the True Blood HBO series which is pre-production for a second season.

Guys, 3 villains is not too much for one movie, and most people thought spiderman 3 was awesome. they should just make it about 2 and a half hours, might sound pretty long but if they make it shorter, like 1 hour and 55 minutes then i don`t think it can have more fightscenes than spiderman 3, which was about 2 hours and 10 minutes long with like 5 fightscenes.
it would suck to have only 2 villains in Spiderman 4 when there were 3 villains in Spiderman 3. I agree with 37 Radius i dont want morbius to be one of the main villains in the next spm movie they might as well bring in Blade to help spidey fight like they did in the comics & cartoon series come on i want spidey’s most dangerous villains not the lame ones, But i can understand the lizard being the next villain they already have Dr. Crut Connors on all the spm movies they might as well make him the villain i just want the next one to be more action and less romance Please make this one count

Either the word “most” or “awesome” needs to be turned into its opposite meaning, heh. On top of that, one of the major complaints was how they had 3 villains (too many)
you see, the reason why i want 3 villains in this one is because first of all, spiderman 4 got pushed back to 2011, so i really don`t want to wait for them till spidey 5, also i don`t want there to be a part 5 when no symbiotes in the final film, and second, because venom and carnage would make a great team but i don`t want them in a movie alone, and it`s hard to explain why.
ok, i guess the reason why i don`t want venom and carnage alone is cuz lizard was mentioned in the 2nd so he has to join them, but also i want spiderman 4 to have more fightscenes than part 3, but i don`t want them to have all the fights to themselves and i can`t explain why. so you see, i want 3 villins but i only want 4 movies

when i saw spidey 3, at first i thought it was a cool flick. but when i got home i started to think about it. i mean, the problem with spiderman 3 was because it had too many villains (sandman and venom). I don’t include green goblin because he helped spidey at the end. hence this realization: that the movie wasn’t that good: is what kept me from seeing it at least twice on the big screen. So why was I so excited as i sat there watching it at the movies? The answer: because after all it was spiderman, one of my favorites. However, 2 villains was too much. sandman alone could have carried the movie. they didn’t need to put venom in the story. frankly, what they should have done was save venom for spidey 4 and let him be the only villain.

for those here who say venom should remain dead and carnage should stay out, carnage does have a motive, he`s eddie`s brother and they can team up against spiderman. if u thought venom didn`t workout it`s probably cuz u didn`t think he got enough screentime, but i think i said before that`s cuz he`s VENOM. also i see absolutely no reason to change the direction of the story, that`s just gonna murder the series like they did with batman. change my mind i don`t want electro in a film.

I don’t think Morbius is such a bad choice for a villain, but I definitely don’t think he is the BEST choice. SM3 sucked A$$ mainly because they squeezed 3 villains in that each could have carried the movie on their own as the sole bad guy. As a result, NONE of them was well developed enough for anybody in the audience to get to know them and form an opinion about them (good or bad). You simply didn’t know enough about them to give a $hit if they lived or not. On the other hand, for fans of the comic it was even worse because the movie left so much out… again becuase they tried to do TOO MUCH!!!! I hated, LOATHED SM3. The first two were so close to the story line from the animated series of the 90’s and the comics we grew up reading that I felt like jizzed in my pants at the movies. When I heard venom was going to be in part 3 my head exploded. I just KNEW it was going to be the best one yet. What a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!
Now for SM4, I think they spent so much time building up Dr. Connor’s character that they almost have no choice but to either build him up some more and bring in a new villain or use him as the main baddy. If they do decide to go with Morbius AND Lizard then they better put some thought behind it and try not to repeat the epic FAIL that SM3 was. It’s also a great opportunity to bring in Blade for a collabo… again, only if done right and with some major boo-tay kicking!!
Spiderman was my favorite comic as a kid. I hate to see it frucked up even further. Listen to your fans!!!! Develop the backstory to the villains and make us care about whether or not they die!!!
how many times do i have to say it, the main villain only got 15 minutes cuz he`s VENOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But actually i wouldn`t mind if he was at the end of spiderman 4 either. I think what i hate most about morbius is he starts out as a human and then by the use of crappy magic he becomes a Ghost. AS most have said, The Lizard with Morbius in SM4 would be very relevant to the franchise and also yes, vamipires are in now. It worked in the comics and can as a movie with those 2 villains. And what about a cameo from Blade!!! I’m sure Snipes could use the dough…HAHAHA. Seriously it would be cool of him to show-up in the end and defeat Morbius while Spidey takes on Lizardman.
you can say whatever you want but can i just remind you that morbius is another one of those villains that DON`T START OUT BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And he is in Peter`s college class as is LIZARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So why should lizard be alone??? oh and Morbius has such a simple weakness, which is just sunlight.

FYI, Blade’s dad is Lucas Cross.
I saw a spiderman cartoon on TV and Morbius and Blade were both in it and Morbius was Blade`s father. Who the hell is Lucas Cross?

Manowar is right, it is lucas cross. however, i don’t think Marvel edited Blade’s bio, even on their site. Furthermore, the cartoons are awesome and are usually accurate about 97% in terms of actually following the comic book. That’s a heck of a lot better than the big screen movies of comic book characters. But the spidey cartoon of the 90s was off in that Mobius was Blade’s father. That’s just something the cartoon creators added. By the way the animators were not Marvel employees, but highered by the network (who had the rights in making slight alterations to the character(s) and their bios).

I think Cross is actually his dad from one of the many alternate earths marvel has in the Omniverse.
