Insomniac Games has confirmed the rumors that the Ultimate Edition of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 5 will be bundled in with a next-gen remaster of Marvel's Spider-Man. During Sony's digital showcase this week, the developer unveiled a gameplay demo of the next game in the series based on everyone's favorite webheads. In the demo, Miles Morales – taking up the Spider-Mantle a year after the original game – battles across a bridge trying to rescue pedestrians in danger. Along the way, the hero runs into a group of masked villains led by the Tinkerer.

The presentation surprisingly revealed that Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales would be coming to PlayStation 4 as well as Sony's next-gen console. The company had previously made it very clear that it believes in console generations but made a U-turn and unveiled several next-gen titles would also be playable on older hardware. Of course, if players splurge on the new box, they'll get new features. In the case of Miles Morales, Insomniac specifically points out ray-traced reflections in the streets of New York, 3D audio, and haptic feedback from the DualSense controller as features that only PS5 owners could enjoy.

One other feature that only new console owners will experience is the newest edition of the original Marvel's Spider-Man. Coming bundled in with the $69.99 USD Ultimate Edition of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 5, Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered is a full upgrade of the 2018 action-adventure with new hardware in mind. In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Insomniac Games Community Director James Stevenson goes into detail about the changes coming to the new edition of the game. Players get all the aforementioned PlayStation 5 upgrades, but that's not all that's in this new release.

For one, players will get to wear three brand new Spider-Man suits across the adventure, although there's no word on how they're unlocked. Secondly, Insomniac is adding more features to the game's much-beloved photo mode. Considering that features introduced there were almost instantly snatched up by photo modes in other AAA games, those are sure to be interesting. Finally, for trophy hunters, Insomniac states that it has added new trophies so that players can rack up another Platinum on their new machines. All this comes alongside a choice between a 4K graphics mode and a performance mode that tunes the game for smooth 60 FPS gameplay.

While it may have disappointed a subset of PlayStation 5 fans, the announcement of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales releasing on PlayStation 4 was the real highlight of the entire presentation. Proving that the idea of a firm stop between generations is an antiquated notion, Sony's offering of PlayStation 4 titles will let fans keep playing their newest games on their current platform.
