Spider-Man has always been a treat to see in action, and now fans will be able to run Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales at a blistering 60 frames per second (FPS) on the PlayStation 5. The spin-off to Insomniac’s hit 2018 Marvel's Spider-Man game was revealed at the PS5 livestream event last month, promising to pick up where the previous title left off in showing the titular Brooklyn teen take up the mantle of Spider-Man under the watchful eye of a still-very-much-alive Peter Parker.

Minor controversies over puddles notwithstanding, part of the appeal of Marvel’s Spider-Man was how the game skillfully captured the speed and fluidity of Spidey swinging through a near-perfect rendition of New York City. Even years after its release, players are still uncovering special animations of the wise-cracking hero climbing up fire escapes without skipping a beat. As such, when word came that another Insomniac-developed Spider-Man title was slated to arrive alongside the shiny new next-gen PlayStation console, some fans began to salivate at the idea of running, flipping and web-zipping across the Big Apple in updated HD graphics and frame rates.

Now that wish has been granted. Earlier today, Insomniac Games posted a message on their Twitter page confirming that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be able to run at 60fps and in 4K resolution while in the game’s optional Performance Mode. This was accompanied by a GIF of Miles himself swinging gracefully across the streets of New York like only a spider can, which can be checked out in the tweet below:

This framerate being a special setting and not the default for Spider-Man: Miles Morales supports previous accounts that the PS5 wouldn't run at 60fps all of the time, instead keeping to the standard 30fps and allowing developers to pick when to utilize the full power of the system's revolutionary solid-state drive. Likewise, Xbox Series X lead developer Jason Ronald stated back in May that his company’s console will still support framerates lower than 60fps, though it is still believed that 60fps will eventually become the standard for Triple-A console titles going forward.

Having Spider-Man: Miles Morales be one of the first titles to show off the new generation’s 60fps graphical capabilities will be a great fit, given how fast-paced Marvel’s Spider-Man looked while still being bound to the PS4’s current-gen technology. There might be some trade-offs to the faster framerate, however, such as reduced graphics while swinging, which is why Insomniac is keeping 30fps as the default setting of the new game. Still, fans will have the option to see Spidey effortlessly transverse the rooftops of New York at 60fps when Spider-Man: Miles Morales arrives on the PlayStation 5 later this year.
