Additional information regarding Zendaya's character in Spider-Man: Homecoming is revealed. The actress plays Michelle in the Tom Holland-starrer which is set to hit the big screen in a little more than a month. There has been a lot of talk with regard to who exactly Michelle is over the last couple of months with fans speculating that she could be another reincarnation of Mary Jane. But the former Disney star has already slammed down rumors saying that her character is not a decoy for someone else.

If there is one card that Homecoming is still holding closely to its chest, it is Michelle. We barely know anything about her other than the fact that she goes to the same school as Peter and like him, she is also brainy -- albeit a bit of a loner. Despite this, Zendaya has been a huge part of the marketing materials for the film. She appeared in almost all trailers and is very prominently situated in the Homecoming ensemble poster which means that there is something more to her character than meets the eye.

As part of the extensive featurette released by the Disney Channel for Homecoming, Holland talks a bit about Michelle and her role in Peter's life in the video seen above. "She's weird, but she's supercool to me because usually what she says is very real," the actor said. Furthermore, he adds that for some apparent reason, Michelle seems to keep on popping out in places where Peter and Ned (Jacob Batalon) are.

In the whole bit, arguably the main takeaway from Holland's comment is that Michelle seems to follow him wherever he goes. In a scene in the film which was shown in the trailer, Michelle ribs Peter about hiding something, insinuating that she knows about his secret identity or the real nature of the Stark Internship program. However, at the very end, she passes it up as a joke, saying that she doesn't really care.

We already know that Peter's love interest is Laura Harrier's Liz Allan, at least in Homecoming, so that may scrap the possibility of Zendaya being a second romantic link. So what could be the reason for her tailing Peter when she seems to not even like him? It is possible that Michelle really knows what Peter has been up to. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) could have planted her to secretly observe Peter during school hours. The trailers have indicated that the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist has been trying to keep a watchful eye on his new protege. If it's not Stark, then it could be some other MCU organization or persona like Nick Fury (Sam Jackson) operating in the shadows.

Spider-Man: Homecoming's marketing has already drawn some flak for revealing too much information about some plot points in the story. But it is interesting that Zendaya's Michelle, alongside Donald Glover's yet-to-be-named character, still remains a mystery.
