The New York Toy Fair has been wowing comic book and collectible fans this week, as a whole range of new products were unveiled at the trade-only event. We've already shown you some of the new Marvel figures revealed at the show, as well as the new Black Series line of Star Wars figures created for the 40th anniversary of A New Hope this year. Unsurprisingly, toy giant Funko is also at the show, along with their new collection of PopVinyl, Dorbz, and keychain figures created for the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. The movie, due out later this year, will be the latest Spidey's (Tom Holland) solo outing, and his first feature film in the MCU.
Most of the Funko offerings connected to the film have already been seen, but the company held back one new design for reveal at the toy fair -- a new Tony Stark Pop Vinyl.
This new Pop Vinyl features Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) out of his Iron Man suit, and in a natty outfit. He is wearing sunglasses (of course), what look like Converse sneakers, dark pants/jeans, a suit jacket, and a T-shirt with a little cat print on it. The collectible will be available in April, ahead of the film's release in July.
This version of Tony will join other Funko characters from the film, including several versions of Spider-Man in different Spider-suits, Peter Parker out of costume, a Vulture figure, and two Iron Man toys (a plush hero, and a pint-sized heroes figure). This isn't Funko's first Tony Stark Pop Vinyl, obviously, as multiple versions of the character have been released for previous Iron Man and Avengers movies.
It can be assumed that this particular outfit will make an appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which raises some questions about that adorable cat T-shirt. Is there a story behind this particular fashion choice? Perhaps this shirt is a gift from Peter Parker, or this outfit is worn for a particularly important scene. Then again, maybe it's just for the figure.
However, some fans may wonder if the creation of a pop vinyl featuring Stark in his civvies means that we won't get to see him spend much time in the Iron Man suit in the film. Stark is something of a mentor to Peter Parker in the MCU (and is currently bankrolling his shiny new costume), so many fans were hoping to see the two team up in the new movie. While we'd love to see this, as well, we're just excited to see what this particular cute kitten print looks like in real life.
