Ahead of the the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel and Free Comic Book Day team with Tom Holland to promote the upcoming event. While on the rise thanks to a number of indie roles, Holland's parts in last year's Captain America: Civil War and this summer's Homecoming will help to make him a huge star and a household name. While previous films have all been financially successful, Marvel may be looking at a billion dollar movie given the company's name, Spidey's fame, and the inclusion of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. The film will also introduce a number of new supervillains and civilians to the MCU, who will likely have long lives ahead of them on screen.

Of course, all of those great characters didn't just appear out of thin air. Though the films occasionally affect the comics, Marvel has long relied on strong source material on the page when it comes to its films and TV shows. As such, the studio is keen to regularly point the attention the movies get back onto its comic books. Every year, Free Comic Book Day serves to highlight local comic retailers and make sure people are supporting their stores. To help, most comic publishers have begun providing special comics and looks at upcoming books for free. That trend continues this year, with Marvel and FCBD getting Homecoming star Holland to help them out.

A new video from Free Comic Book Day features Holland encouraging fans to head out on May 6th and support their local retailer. For their effort, they'll be able to get their hands on some new books from Marvel. Check out the press release below for details:

Marvel Secret Empire

Thanks to the success of Marvel's films, the company can now attempt to shift some of that spotlight back onto the comics where everything originated. As such, Marvel often features special arcs and events that coincide with various film releases. For Free Comic Book Day, fans will get a look at publisher's next big event -- and last one for awhile -- Secret Empire. In it, Captain America's new Hydra status quo will be explored, something that has more than a few things in common with the current arc on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In that book, fans will get a glimpse of the upcoming Spectacular Spider-Man book that will likely align things with the film a bit.

Marvel fans will also get to see the Guardians in a new book ahead of their new film, which will also feature a look at The Defenders. This modern take on the classic team will see Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist all joining forces for the first time, mirroring the Netflix corner of the Marvel universe and drumming up anticipation for their show later this year.

Free Comic Book Day will occur May 6 at your local retailer.
