Looking ahead to the future of the MCU and the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming sequels, franchise star Jacob Batalon has revealed to us that he wants Venom to slither his way onto screens for the next installment.

With Homecoming director Jon Watts still not signed to Tom Holland's next Spidey solo movie scheduled to release in 2019, nothing is set in stone when it comes to the next foe for our friendly neighborhood hero. Everyone may have their favorite choice from Spider-Man's impressive rogue's gallery, but almost anyone could be the villain of the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.

Speaking to Screen Rant at New York Comic-Con, the 21-year-old who plays Ned Leeds says that Venom is the villain who tops his personal dream list for the sequel. While it may just seem like the dreams of Peter Parker's best friend, Batalon also teased that Venom could be closer than fans think:

Screen Rant: In your fantasy world what villain would you like to see next for the next Spider-Man film?

Jacob Batalon: It would be interesting to see like Venom, but that's just me though.

Screen Rant: Alright well hopefully we can because we now know its kind of--

Jacob Batalon: We'll see what happens. I'm not gonna say nothing else.

The whole Spider-Man/Venom conundrum is one that shows no signs of being solved as Sony prepares to begin production on Ruben Fleischer's Venom movie about Eddie Brock and his alien symbiote. From one minute to the next, it seems like even the powers that be can't decide whether the likes of Brock, Cletus KasadySilver Sablinova, or Felicia Hardy can cross into Disney's main Spider-Man series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe - or vice versa.

With Sony's Venom taking a much darker turn than the family-friendly fun of the MCU, the two worlds seem to be moving further apart than closer together. However, with Batalon remaining tight-lipped on the issue, he also didn't completely rule Venom out of the Disney's future. Just imagine the crossover to end all crossovers with Tom Hardy not only having his own solo film courtesy of Sony, but also popping by for an outing with Holland and company.

As it stands, Homecoming sets up the expanded possibilities of the Sinister Six, but should audiences prepare for a surprise casting of Hardy in the MCU as well as in Sony's villain-verse? While those involved with the films clearly know more than has been made public, it doesn't look like anyone is letting slip on what plans there are for a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, other than that Tom Holland will be putting the suit back on in 2019.
