I actually thought Spiderman 3 was overall the best of the trilogy, and I truly hope that another set will be made. However, I agree that too many villains (and Gwen Stacy) can distract the audience from the main storyline. Spiderman 3 should only have had Sandman and then conclude Spiderman 6 with a showdown between "New Goblin" and Spiderman.

I don't know. I really kind of hate how Spiderman 3 turned out (I only saw it a couple of weeks ago), because there were good elements to it, but overall, there was just too much trying to be accomplished in 2 hours and 20 minutes. Really and truly, there were whole characters that didn't even really need to be there, because they're not necessary to the main storyline and just seemed to be thrown in to "please the fans" (none of which were too pleased by the two-dimension caricatures that were portrayed). If you don't do a character justice, should they be included? Did Gwen Stacy even need to be in the movie? Did Sandman? Did Venom?

The thing is, if Raimi would let himself focus a bit, I think he could still do a good sequel (of course, he could just be producing, handing the reigns over to someone else). That being said though, there are two routes that would be easy to take in a Spiderman 4...Carnage and the Lizard (conveniently enough Conner's also has the last bit of the Venom symbiote with him), so the question is whether or not it can be done, or if it will be yet another convoluted mess.

Yeah, I wouldn't say it was awful, but definitely not up to the standards of the first two and guilty of trying to cram far too much in with the idea it would be the last one.

I don't think 'Spidey 3' was a "disaster" per se... but, y'know what sucks the most? I simply walked out completely neutral, with no interest in seeing the franchise continue.

As for Venom... it's pretty sad when his appearance was less interesting than Harry's - the only part of the movie that had any real bite to it.

Sam Raimi or not... I just don't care anymore. And I wish I did.
