So late last week, word leaked that Spider-Man 4 (along with Spider-Man 5 no less) was picking up steam.
[UPDATE: Sony has informed Coming Soon that Tobey Maguire is not being replaced for Spider-Man 4. - Jamie]
Now according to our buddies at Latino Review, a number of young, lesser-known actors are being considered to replace the departing Tobey Maguire to play Spiderman and his dorky alter-ego Peter Parker.

Although they were quick to say that “no offers have been made”, the top choices are Patrick Fugit (i.e. best known for Cameron Crowe’s masterpiece Almost Famous) and Michael Angarano (i.e. the lead in the suprisingly good Sky High from a few years back!)
I have absolutely nothing against either actor. Both certainly have the right look and are young enough to carry the series for a couple of installments.
However, if this nerd had a say in the casting, my vote would go to Bret Harrison - the lead of the insanely underrated television-series Reaper.
Not only can he act (which obviously matters) and physically play the part, but this guy has the perfect sense of humor to give Webhead his wise-cracks back on the silver screen.
But then again…maybe that’s just me…

Perfect choice, nice idea. (I’m fan of reaper also). There are a few people out there who could carry it, but as far as i’m concerned they need a few changes behind the camera, specifically Raimi.
Didn’t Raimi say if Maguire didn’t come back he wouldn’t? I can only hope…
Why won’t Tobey do it?
I’m definately not going to watch a re-cast spideryman after 3 box office hits, even though the third one was terrible.
Have Tobey back with one villain, no love story BS, make it more realistic and we’d have a hit with a well-written and played out film.
It does not matter one way or the other if they recast spidey or not. If they do make sure it is a good fit. But I would love to see them use the wisecracks the spidey is known for. Especially in the Ultimate Spider man series with Speidey and Wolverine. That would be an awesome movie.

I’ll tell ya there’s NO WAY Sony is going to drop Tobey and Raimi. So dream on!!
This back to back shooting schedule practically confirms this.
The Spider Man franchise isn’t hurting or in dispare, and there certainly not going to get rid of the star and director that made it happen.

as far as i’m concerned the two guys at top look like kids. remember parker is a college student not a high school kid. change is possible, but the studio would have to do something completely new, therefore away from the other spidey movies. but i like tobey.
Yeah those to goons look like the bottom of the barrel as far as casting go.

For now there’s only one Spidey and its Tobey!!!!
They can recast Dunst and nobody will care.

I sure hope they *DO* replace Tobey. I never bought him as Parker. While they are at it - MAKE SURE TO RID THE WORLD OF “MJ The ALIEN”!!!!!

toby should not be replaced his is a great actor and fillthe spot of peter parker and spiderman perfectly if they replace him that would be stupid totally blow if the replaced him it

i will support tobey to act in spiderman 4 series also.he can do the acting in the best way.
i will hope tobey(spiderman) will marry in this new series with his love(mary jane watson)
