SouthLAnd: Season 2 Sneak Peek & Giveaway

3 years ago by Anthony Ocasio

southland logo tnt2 SouthLAnd: Season 2 Sneak Peek & Giveaway

With delays and cancellation plaguing SouthLAnd, who would have guessed that we would be sitting here now, less than a week away from the premiere of its sophomore season on March 2nd. Out with NBC and their peacock and in comes TNT, a network that wasn’t afraid of to air a show deemed “too dark.” If we’ve learned anything from this ordeal it’s that a great show sometimes has a chance to find a better home, and that the one time unfortunate cancellation is now a Godsend – giving SouthLAnd the chance to not only survive, but thrive on a network that believes in it (cough – and off the sinking Titanic that is NBC – cough).

The season premiere, written by creator Ann Biderman and executive producer John Wells, gives fans just a taste of what they can expect to see in the episodes to come. With Clarke (Tom Everett Scott) all banged up with the possibility of never returning to the force, we’ll get to see Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break) step in as Cordero, Adams’ (Regina King) new partner. Combine that with newcomer Moretta (Kevin Alejandro) and Bryant (Shawn Hatosy) dealing with a freeway shooting, Sherman (Benjamin McKenzie) being able to ride on his own (only if Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) lets him) and Brown (Arija Bareikis) having to deal with a riot after her new partner kills a 13-year-old boy and I’d say that’s a great way to kick off the second season.

SouthLAnd has always been known for its great locations and actually going to, and filming in, the places they’re trying to depict – and it’s is no different with the second season. Although maybe they should have thought twice before taking over a neighborhood in South Central, LA to film the riot from the season premiere.

Says John Wells,

“In the first episode… we have a mob scene. A number of people came out of their houses and started screaming and jumping into the fray and people started to then throw things at the cop cars. They didn’t know [that it was fake]. They actually thought that they were just jumping into the riot.”

“When you actually see the episode, the fear and the tension is real in a way that we could have never manufactured.”

Continuing with its same gritty documentary style of filmmaking that fans fell in love with, SouthLAnd has jumped leaps and bounds in terms of storytelling from its first season and has stepped it up in every way possible with the second. If you liked the first season, you’ll love what’s come in the second – and if you loved the first season, well, I don’t know… I guess you’ll super love it?

Although, I could be wrong. After all, NBC did give SouthLAnd the axe and as the world saw with most of their decisions this past season, NBC knows what they’re talking about when it comes to programming a network. (This is where I put the sarcasm, right?)

Looking for more? Check out a promo for the second season of SouthLAnd below,

Instead of boring you about how great the second season looks, I’ll leave it up to the wonderfully opinionated and number one SouthLAnd supporter, Michael Cudlitz (via Twitter), to tell you what he thinks of the promo.

I think that sums it up nicely.

Southland is one of the finest dramas on TV, but NBC didn't know what they had until they canceled it. So glad to see TNT giving a great show a good home.

I have loved SouthLAnd from the very beginning and still can't believe that NBC would let such a gem go… I was thrilled to hear TNT picked it up and have enjoyed watching the first season all over again. Now I am counting down to the second season… =0)

Love SouthLAnd!!! Started watching the series when it was on NBC, and was devastated when they canceled the show with only one season. Then heard they were gonna air Southland on TNT, and start a season 2! Love Southland! Re-watched season 1 on TNT, and can't wait for Tuesday's episode of Soutland SEASON 2!!!

NBC has completely lost it. They are fading and fast, they are just lucky they have the olympics. I feel the “cable channels” like tnt, usa fx etc are really picking up the slack and really coming out with good television

I originally wondered why NBC would drop Southland since it is such a kickass show, but after watching their handling of the Conan/Leno deal and their terrible coverage of the Olympics, I am glad I can watch this show on a channel that will be a little more welcoming to a show of Southlands awesomeness! I cant wait for tomorrow night

Southland has a unique way of capturing the feel of being a cop or detective than other Drama series. Most importantly it is so nice seeing a cast member of O.C. soap series back on the screen. Thank you Screenrant for keeping up on this show.

NBC has some real stupid Executives working for them. They basically sold a hit show for no reason. Looks like you don't need to have a business degree to work for NBC.
