Sound of my Voice Movie Trailer Sound of My Voice Trailer: Meet an Alluring Cult Leader from the Future?

Last month we debuted an extended clip from Sound of My Voice, an enigmatic drama about two reporters who infiltrate a cult to expose the falsehood of its leader, Maggie (Brit Marling) who claims to be proof of some impossible truths.

Now we have an official trailer for Sound of My Voice to share, which gives us a wider (but just as mysterious) look at the film.

Check out the trailer and synopsis below:

A journalist and his girlfriend get pulled in while they investigate a cult whose leader claims to be from the future.

Obviously the hook of the movie is the whole ‘is she, isn’t she?’ question about Maggie’s alleged origins, and how that possibility (not the answer, but the possibility) affects protagonist couple Peter and Lorna. Sound of My Voice has been well received at Sundance and (most recently) SXSW, with fans calling it an engaging and tense thriller with some interesting sci-fi elements thrown into it. Of course, the time travel plot device masks a much more grounded story about faith, love, and universal design – but on the whole, it looks like director Zal Batmanglij has made a thought-provoking and entertaining film.

Sound of My Voice will be in theaters on April 27, 2012 in the U.S.

  1. I’m so up for this. I love psychodrama!

  2. quick correction: “Affects” not “effects”

    • Wrong. “Affects” is correct.

      • D’oh! I misread…disregard my correction to your correction.

  3. this definitely could be interesting.
strangely, I live in a very small village, and it is home to a cult of this type. so this actually strikes quite close to home.

I’m interested to see how “real” they will make it.

  4. Haha it reminds me of Martha Marcy cause of the part with the gun and the cult and the fact that the lead male looks kind like Sean Durkin. I don’t bother getting exciting for this stuff anymore because i have to go to new york in order to see it so, Yeah it looks cool but will i see it? No, but through no fault of my own.

  5. Any director named Batman-glij can NOT be all that bad! Lucky git. He probably walks around on set going: “I’m Batman…glij.” Is that pronounced /glee/? Is his name Batman-Glee, first name Zal? I mean, that is hands down the coolest name on this planet.

“My name is Batman…glee. Call me Zal.”

  6. The girl from “Another Earth”! She’s climbing up!
