Sony Screen Gems and Universal have recently announced a few changes-ups in their upcoming release schedules, some are highly anticipated movies while others are ones you may not have heard of. Also, there’s a couple of 3D news pieces in there related to the changed release dates. Read on for all the details.

To diverge from Screen Gems for a minute, Universal’s sci-fi thriller, Repo Men, starring Jude Law and Forest Whitaker, has been pushed up from its original April 2nd date to March 19th, 2010. This may not be a smart move since it now has four other releases to contend with, including the Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston’s romantic action-comedy, The Bounty Hunter; the indie comedy, Diary of a Whimpy Kid; the rock biopic, The Runaways; and the fantasy-thriller, Season of the Witch. All different target audiences but that’s a lot of competition right there.
To get back now to Screen Gems, the studio has bumped the release date of the Paul Bettany action-thriller, Priest, from August 20th, 2010 to January 14th, 2011. Why? Well, it apparently saw Avatar and is deciding to jump on the 3D bandwagon. But it’s not being filmed for that purpose, which means the 3D will be done in post-production.
Another one bites the dust… It will find competition on the same date from Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woods, another horror film being done in three dimensions (Resident Evil: Afterlife got moved to that date before being taken back off it again).
The next movie to have its release date changed is Takers, starring Paul Walker, Zoe Saldana, Hayden Christiansen, Idris Elba and Matt Dillon – it has been moved from May 14th to August 20th, 2010; The Roommate, starring Leighton Meester, has been moved from September 17th, 2010 to February 4th, 2011; and lastly the high school comedy, Easy A, has been given a September 17th, 2010 relese date.
Of course, as Collider points out, these release dates (especially the ones further away) are subject to change. But as they stand do they mess up your movie-watching calendar for the foreseeable future? Which of those movies are you looking forward to most?

Doesn't mess up my plans, I just thinks it really silly to pull a finished movie back into post production to make it 3D. Of course from the studio's view point not a bad ploy. Post production 3D treatment is far less expensive obviously than filming for 3D. That extra cost will more than be made up by the increased ticket costs. Putting a film into 3D post production actually helps the films profit projections.
Sick of all this 3D stuff. Going to be a lot of pointless, cheesy scenes in films now a days.
I was looking forward to both The Roommate and Easy A.. well this kinda sucks. Why put a movie ( who's initial purpose) which was to be aired during the “Back to School” period in February? Random.
Not looking forward to Repo Men -> Repo: The Genetic Opera (and the Broadway show of the same name) will be better in the fact that they were the originals.
It really sucks that I have to wait so long to see Takers, was really looking forward to that one, same with Priest.
I'm not understanding why Takers was pushed back. Its not going to be in 3D. It doesn't make any sense to me at all!! Very disappointed!!!!!
