‘The Social Network’ Casting Rumors

Well it was bound to happen more sooner than later: director David Fincher and company have already started the casting process for their Facebook movie, The Social Network. I’m telling you this project is getting passed quicker than a laxative coated banana through a monkey.

Don’t believe me? Consider this: It was just August 11^th that Screen Rant reported on the idea of The Social Network movie. Two weeks later on August 25^th, we reported that producer Kevin Spacey had already confirmed a budget of $45 million and a start date of this October.

First Showing has received a good word from their friend Carson Reeves of Script Shadow via his Facebook page in regards to some casting rumors for The Social Network. According to Reeves, upcoming zombie killer, Jesse Eisenberg (Adventureland), will most likely snag the lead role of Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg; while former N’Sync pretty boy, turned solo artist, turned “actor,” Justin Timberlake, will portray Napster founder Sean Parker. Rounding out the cast as Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin should be Andrew Garfield (who you can see as Anton in the upcoming movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.)

Getting word that The Social Network cast is set. And, probably to no one’s surprise, Jesse Eisenberg will play Mark Zuckerberg. A bit more of a surprise: Justin Timberlake will play Sean Parker. Wow. Finally, Andrew Garfield will play the part of Eduardo.

Eisenberg looks more like Parker and Timberlake more closely resembles Zuckerberg but eh, neither of them are perfect choices in my opinion. I give JT a hard time, but in his last couple movies he wasn’t half-bad and his comedy roles on Saturday Night Live are pretty amusing. He was decent in Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan, so maybe he has the chops to pull off more of a drama role. Garfield hasn’t really done much other than a few TV spots here and there and a couple of indie projects so we’ll just have to see about him.

This is all pure RUMOR and speculation at the moment – but its rumor and speculation from a legitimate source (read: NOT a tabloid) so we’ll just have to see how it plays out. However, First Showing points us over to The Playlist with this quote:

“A good inside source who’s been poking us on this Facebook project lately says that yes, all those actors are under consideration and were all present for a table read with Fincher and casting person Laray Mayfield, however none are set in stone, and one that we won’t mention by name wasn’t exactly loved by the notoriously picky director.”

Like we’ve talked about in previous articles, the script is getting glowing reviews from all over the net and The Social Network seems to have the full support of Hollywood, which is evident by the extreme fast-tracking the movie seems to be getting. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a release date over the course of the next couple of weeks and for it to be in theaters this time next year.
