This Thursday the long awaited return of Smallville graces us with the continuation of Chloe’s disaster of a wedding, never mind her possession by Brainiac.
We’ve told you about the 9th season of Smallville and Tom Welling’s negotiations. In my search for news, I came across some bits on Michael Rosenbaum and his desire for hair (it will all make sense in a moment).
From comedy sketches called the Amsterdam Kids on Conan O’Brien and doing voice-over work for Trojan condoms and Magnavox, he’s come a long way. Since Smallville, he’s done a few projects in the form of voice work for a few episodes of PG Porn and Batman: The Brave and The Bold.

But in an interview with an old friend of his at The Windy City Times, he got to talking about any possible return to Smallville after doing seven seasons as the classic nemesis of Clark Kent – the insidious Lex Luthor.
Rosenbaum’s take on the idea of returning to the show had a few requirements, if it even is remotely possible. He says they asked him a few times if he’d like to come back but he felt his role had run its course. But if he were to ponder the idea of returning, he’d come back
- For just the final few episodes of the show
- Insist on wanting to wear a bald cap.
Yea, you read right – a bald cap. He’s kind of had it shaving his head for seven years after finally getting all his hair back and doesn’t want to do that any more. He said that he had to get to the set 2 hours before everyone else so his makeup girl could cut his hair that was always struggling to grow back.
Can ya blame him?
So from what we can see here, there is a slight chance that we just might see the man himself, Rosenbaum, instead of body doubles.

I’d like to see A) a 9th season of Smallville and B)the return of Lex Luthor in all his evil glory. Rosenbaum nailed the character perfectly (IMO). I don’t blame him for not wanting to keep shaving his head. Maybe there can be a meteor rock cure to Lex’s baldness and Lex can use his own hair to foil Clark!

I’ve seen Rosenbaum in a few things and the first time I did, I thought, wow, this guy sounds like Rosenbaum… then I realize it is him… with hair!

I would love to see him again. I think this season is good without him though. It makse us more anquish to see him when and if they reveal him in the final hours of the show taking full and utter control back to Luther Corp and become the evil mastermind that we all have been waiting to see. I don’t know about the bald cap though. May not look the same with it.
Maybe they could just dye his hair red… that would be quite the retro look!
The show writers could leave lex with hair because when the fortress of solitude collapsed jor-el took clarks powers so why couldn’t he have healed lex in the process and erased his memories.
If anyone remembers wayyy back, Lex, in the comic books had red hair. He lost his hair as a side affect from all the Kryptonite he handled in his life trying to thwart Supes!
Better watch out, Rosenbaum, with hair the fans won’t recognize you and your career may be over!

truthfully michael rosenbaum is sexy with hair or without and as lex luther he is amazing. I got hooked on the show when my daughter krystal and nephew carlos would clear their schedules just to get together to watch this show called smallville.It is a great show but i really enjoyed lex luther.

comon.. hair grows back in like 3 months.. what the big deal :/ He was by far the best actor in smallville, and the perfect lex luthor. ive been watching all the old seasons again over the last few months cause its just not the same without rosenbaum
Him and glover where my favorite characters by far. Smallville is possibly my favorite show of all time, but if they cant get rosenbaum for at least 1/4th of the episodes i dont see the point of a 9th season…
Michael has been acting with hair/hairpieces outside of Smallville and true fans recognize him and find that fine. I think it would be a great thing for him not to be easily recognizable as Lex after all it is not easy to just find roles with him as a bald young man.
I think they should just scrap season 9 and do a spin-off. The ratings are plummeting, Almost all of the original cast members are gone. Smallville’s very lucky that they are going beyond thirteen. So just get rosenbaum back for the last two episdodes and be done.
Having Rosenbaum dye his hair red and returning to the show with some memory loss would actually be a great way to go.
It would allow the fans to get their super villain back and Rosenbaum would’nt have to shave his head anymore. It’d just be red is all.
And as far as continuity goes it could work well enough since Lex Luther did have red hair in the comics. Especially in the comic books when Superman fought Doomsday and died.
I for one would be happy to see Rosenbaum back with red hair. So make it happen WB! ;D
It will be nice to have lex back, but most of all Lana and Clark back together!!
in the superman film starring, christoher reeve,gene hackman,potayel of lex luhor wore a wig, why not keep the hai andpercive it as a wig?
Well said Craig. Why can’t they just say he had a hair transplant or something. He’s got to come back, and to be honest, he looks better with hair. I hope he in all seriousness rejoins the cast and the show continues to go from strength to strength.
Why dont they JUST START BRINGING BACK THE WING JUST LIKE THE MOVIES. The originl Lex always wore a wig. MAke his hair look like a wig. Or if not pay him the money
In the early early days of the comic, Lex had hair believe it or not. He lost it from handling so much Kryptonite!
Lex doesn’t need to be bald – look at the Lois & Clark series, it worked with hair!
I’d be up for the wig idea, up for the healing idea. Heck I’d be up for the bald cap idea – just bring the dude back!!!
Whoa!!! Lex actually has hair, that is pretty amazing!!!! i don’t blame him for wanting to keep his hair. he looks better with it. they could pretend he is wearing a wig or something for the show. in the superman movies lex luthor had hair. so they could do that. but a bald cap is stupid. everyone would totally notice. i think they should bring him back. he is a very important character, even if he’s evil.
in the movies he wore wigs. he could keep his hair and say that’s what’s going on. and if they’re gonna do a bald cap, they better make it look convincing
I have no doubt that he will return for the last few episodes of smallville… and when he does ratings are def gonna be through the roof! (Last episode of smallville + Lex is back! = freakin awesome)
i do understand michael’s conditions…. but i would also like to comment that even though he is bald in smallville… he really do look handsome and manly as lex luthor…. and his acting skills is really good in smallville….
he really did a good job as Lex luthor… and I do hope that he would return in the show….
