Green Arrow will be getting a sidekick on this season of Smallville and we now know the actress who will be playing the part. Elise Gatien (In the Land of Women) will be Mia/Speedy, a street urchin who Oliver (Justin Hartley) will train to be his bow-and-arrow-toting partner in the fight against crime.
I think my version of the synopsis sounded pretty good, but you’ll probably want to check out this official statement from the CW anyway:

OLIVER TAKES DC COMICS’ CHARACTER SPEEDY UNDER HIS WING — Oliver tries to help a young street girl, Mia AKA Speedy (guest star Elise Gatien), get out of her dangerous life by offering to train her, but Mia double crosses him. Lois asks Clark to help her land a job as an on-air television host, but the two are shocked when the station wants to hire them as a team.

Speedy
If you’re wondering which episode you need to tune into to catch the lovely creature pictured up top, Gatien will guest-star on Smallville season 9’s sixth episode, entitled “Crossfire”. The episode is scheduled to air (by my count) on October 23, 2009 @ 8pm on the CW.

There is also a Dark Arrow villain comng, glad to see Oliver getting some decent stories and screentime.

Speedy has always been a girl in all the Green Arrow comics i have. As far as I know.
And in Smallville Speedy is a HIV posetive prostitute.
Speedy was a male in the early comics. He did drugs during the time when Green Lantern & Arrow were combined with one another.
There are two speedys in the comics. The boy decided to go and become his own man and Oliver found a replacement- Mia Dearden

Looking to be a great… no, WONDERFUL season
So far the season has been MUCH better than the last two. I hope they keep Clark in that suit and I like all the new characters that have been coming in. I wouldnt go as far as to say that this season is spectacular by any means. But it sure has improved. I still do not by into Lois and clark’s chemistry, especially since they keep throwing in signs of Clark’s feelings towards Lana (last episode he was looking at a picture of her)
At some point I would like to hear something about Lex and if they could get Michael Rosenbaum to come at some point in the season and team up with a fully powered General Zod, that could save the franchise and end it on a positive note. So far the Metallo episode was great, teh suit looks really good, and the guy playing Zod is perfect. For the first time in years I am being optimistic about Smallville’s future
Vin, to back up your theory, Speedy was a boy on Teen Titans anyway. And “he” did look like Robin.
The actress looks hot! But that’s not the point!
First Impulse and Cyborg, now Speedy and Stargirl! Please, these guys (and girls) should still be in their diapers at this point in Smallville.
Also, not to mention the fact that the first Speedy was a guy! They’re just introducing her because of her HIV status.
@ Tasouli- I noticed him looking at Lana in that episode as well, but it seemed like it was more a symbolic goodbye-he put her picture in a scrapbook and closed it. I get the sense the Lana thing is officially in the past.
